The part with the coffee really hits me the hardest. That moment when you've realized you made two cups, not one, and there's no one to help you finish it. So to honor the person you've lost, you drink both in silence, knowing no one will ever even know. It makes for a beautifully sad picture.

This song always makes me cry my eyes out no matter what. The way he explains this incredible loss of a loved one makes you feel every single emotion he went through. This song relates to a ton of people's situations and explains them perfectly

This breaks my heart. The things he talks about - - the everyday normal things that are often overlooked in favor of grander actions - - like "I made too much coffee" - - break my heart. Our lives always go on, but just sometimes, we wish that it didn't - - we wish for it to stay how they were.
"What do I do without you?"
    The poignancy. It's shattering.

Dave Matthews' Grace is Gone is very similar in that aspect. Sounds like a breakup song, but actually about the death of his stepfather.
Also, a very nice sad drinking song.

It could still be the death of a loved one, feeling free doesn’t necessarily mean they were bad or hurtful. With long illness, when they finally pass it is relieving as much as it is painful.

I love how the titles of their songs, (or at leas some of their songs) aren't just bits of the chorus. Reading the title /adds/ something to the song. Gives it that much more meaning.

This song so captures the feeling of being temporarily lost when someone who's been in your daily life is gone. My ex had apnea, and the first time I woke up by myself, I didn't think "I am alone," I thought, "He has stopped breathing. How long ago did he stop breathing?" And that was enough adrenaline there was no more sleeping.

On the morning when I woke up without you for the first time
I felt free and I felt lonely and I felt scared
And I began to talk to myself almost immediately
Not being used to being the only person there
The first time I made coffee for just myself I made too much of it
But I drank it all just 'cause you hate it when I let things go to waste
And I wandered through the house like a little boy, lost at the mall
And an astronaut could've seen the hunger in my eyes from space
And I sang oh, what do I do?
    What do I do?
    What do I do?
What do I do without you?
On the morning when I woke up without you for the first time
I was cold so I put on a sweater and I turned up the heat
And the walls began to close in and I felt so sad and frightened
I practically ran from the living room out into the street
And the wind began to blow and all the trees began to pant
And the world, in its cold way, started coming alive
And I stood there like a business man waiting for the train
And I got ready for the future to arrive
And I sang oh, what do I do?
    What do I do?
    What do I do?
What do I do without you?

you know, as someone with a social disorder, i can only look at this video and imagine its the other side of the world. It makes me cry to feel things i never allowed myself to feel.

I cry every single time I hear this song.
And I'm a dude, that's how powerful this is to me.
