I think the thing that fell apart the most for psg after the 60th minute was their backline. Ale mentioned how Messi and Neymar dissapeared and weren't dropping back to relieve madrids pressure like they had been earlier in the game, for me they were dropping back just as much as they were before, the only difference was that the backline seemingly couldn't pass to them without giving the ball up. Marquinhos, who I've often praised as one of the best CBs in the world had an absolute howler, and kimpembe and hakimi were essentially invisible in the second half, the problem for psg for me really started all the way back and i'm reluctant to criticise messi and neymar for not dropping back when they had nobody to pass them the ball when they did drop back (ney still had a ton of costly turnovers but im just adressing the "passivness" that people are complaining about).

To be honest, some teams aren't just meant for Champion leagues and PSG is one. They had the game under control for the first 60 minutes and just stopped playing after that first goal. This is an unpopular opinion but I think Poch should have substituted Donnuromma after that mistake. Goalkeepers are very important in a team build-up and the maintenance of possession, but after that mistake, the defense didn't even trust him enough to pass him the ball which led to lots of errors. Gana was poor as well, should have definitely tackled Modric in midfield which led to the second goal and he then give the ball away right after the restart for the third. Messi was also terrible in the final 30 minutes. He should have stepped up and calmed the pace in midfield as he did in the first half. It was for games like this that PSG signed Romas but it's so unfortunate that he's not fully fit. If I was PSG, I won't worry about losing Mbappe. Haters may say that Messi is finished but if PSG can bring in a coach that can get the best out of Messi then they should be fine for the next 2 seasons. Messi just needs fullbacks that can give him passes on the edge on the penalty box like Alba did for years at Barça. Congratulations to Madrid, they show their experience once again.

To be fair: That first goal is on Donnaruma, you should know Benz is sneaky and that he did the same to Karius and Ulreich in the CL. Ancelotti for once got his subs right and at the right time, with Camavinga and Valverde pressuring PSG's midfield. Those two did to PSG what PSG did to Madrid in the first game. You can't really blame this one on Poch or the attackers, lots of individual errors around the back. Marquinhos should have smashed it instead of that soft pass that let Benz score the third, Donnaruma should have smashed it instead of letting Benz pressure him. Easy to say in hindsight, but these errors caused the collapse of PSG. The reason Madrid was asleep for 60 min is also that they pretty much played without a right winger in Asensio. The guy messed up so many chances, and he had a real day off. He was basically like Wan Bissaka in the winger position, completely useless on his weak foot, and incredibly clumsy.
There's no need to analyze this deeper than it actually was. PSG completly dominated both ties up until Donnarumma decided to gift a goal. What happened after is a shift of momentum which completly changed the game and Benzema scored with every shot he took. PSG Central midfield is horrific. Verratti, Peredes (before being subbed), and Danilo were INVISIBLE. Marquinhos was HORRENDOUS. PSG looked in shambles the second Donnarumma lost that ball. Neymar and Mbappe were the only players on the pitch who played and if you take away Neymar's assist he was underwhelming as well. 36 year old Luka Modric tackling Messi cleanly from behind was a microcosm of this entire game.

PSG just thought they had the game sealed after their goal. Madrid’s first goal was definitely Donnaruma’s fault and not a foul. It was a decent charge but Donnaruma still cleared the ball away and the referee decided that the game continue. Some amount of physical contact is okay in football to take the ball from an opponent.
Sorry its definitely a foul. Not a shoulder to shoulder challenge by a mile and he got nowhere remotely close to the ball. It totally affected his striking of the ball. That us not just contact it was a foul. But it was horrendous goalkeeping mistake and then a collapse of monumental proportions.

I think the thing that fell apart the most for psg after the 60th minute was their backline. Ale mentioned how Messi and Neymar dissapeared and weren't dropping back to relieve madrids pressure like they had been earlier in the game, for me they were dropping back just as much as they were before, the only difference was that the backline seemingly couldn't pass to them without giving the ball up. Marquinhos, who I've often praised as one of the best CBs in the world had an absolute howler, and kimpembe and hakimi were essentially invisible in the second half, the problem for psg for me really started all the way back and i'm reluctant to criticise messi and neymar for not dropping back when they had nobody to pass them the ball when they did drop back (ney still had a ton of costly turnovers but im just adressing the "passivness" that people are complaining about).

To be honest, some teams aren't just meant for Champion leagues and PSG is one. They had the game under control for the first 60 minutes and just stopped playing after that first goal. This is an unpopular opinion but I think Poch should have substituted Donnuromma after that mistake. Goalkeepers are very important in a team build-up and the maintenance of possession, but after that mistake, the defense didn't even trust him enough to pass him the ball which led to lots of errors. Gana was poor as well, should have definitely tackled Modric in midfield which led to the second goal and he then give the ball away right after the restart for the third. Messi was also terrible in the final 30 minutes. He should have stepped up and calmed the pace in midfield as he did in the first half. It was for games like this that PSG signed Romas but it's so unfortunate that he's not fully fit. If I was PSG, I won't worry about losing Mbappe. Haters may say that Messi is finished but if PSG can bring in a coach that can get the best out of Messi then they should be fine for the next 2 seasons. Messi just needs fullbacks that can give him passes on the edge on the penalty box like Alba did for years at Barça. Congratulations to Madrid, they show their experience once again.

To be fair: That first goal is on Donnaruma, you should know Benz is sneaky and that he did the same to Karius and Ulreich in the CL. Ancelotti for once got his subs right and at the right time, with Camavinga and Valverde pressuring PSG's midfield. Those two did to PSG what PSG did to Madrid in the first game.
You can't really blame this one on Poch or the attackers, lots of individual errors around the back. Marquinhos should have smashed it instead of that soft pass that let Benz score the third, Donnaruma should have smashed it instead of letting Benz pressure him. Easy to say in hindsight, but these errors caused the collapse of PSG.
The reason Madrid was asleep for 60 min is also that they pretty much played without a right winger in Asensio. The guy messed up so many chances, and he had a real day off. He was basically like Wan Bissaka in the winger position, completely useless on his weak foot, and incredibly clumsy.

PSG Central midfield is horrific. Verratti, Peredes (before being subbed), and Danilo were INVISIBLE. Marquinhos was HORRENDOUS. PSG looked in shambles the second Donnarumma lost that ball. PSG just thought they had the game sealed after their goal. Madrid’s first goal was definitely Donnaruma’s fault and not a foul. It was a decent charge but Donnaruma still cleared the ball away and the referee decided that the game continue. Some amount of physical contact is okay in football to take the ball from an opponent.
Sorry its definitely a foul. Not a shoulder to shoulder challenge by a mile and he got nowhere remotely close to the ball. It totally affected his striking of the ball. That us not just contact it was a foul. But it was horrendous goalkeeping mistake and then a collapse of monumental proportions.
