I'm a crew chief on the HH-60G Pavehawk and what Capt. White explains is detailed to perfection. This was a super accurate and detailed walk around and goes to show how knowledgeable he is as a pilot. I love this bird and I learn something new every time I work on it. Super exciting job and one of the best in the USAF!
Does anyone know if he has a RUclips or social media to follow he was such an inspiration the knowledge he had about flying the pavehawk
Thank you for your service,sir
I retired out of Moody AFB as an HH-60G Pavehawk Aerial Gunner (SMA) Instructor and evaluator in 2014 and was extremely impressed by the Capt White's ability to fully and thoroughly explain the Pavehawk mission and the helicopter's various components and weapons systems. Actually, he is the first pilot that seemed to have detailed knowledge of the weapons systems. And yes, when he mentioned the aircraft side position lights were previously removed (about 15 years ago) that was true and was due to "blooming" out of our night vision goggles (NVG's) at night. We would use duct tape and wrap all around the light except a small portion which allowed us to see without being blinded by the blooming of the side position light(s). It was much worse on the left side than the right side due to the color of the lens lighting. I was impressed Capt White knew of the history of the light and the reason for the modification! I miss my old office every day and the many rescues we performed on that very aircraft while deployed overseas. Great job and explanation by Capt. White! Great to see the 41'st RQS is still prepared and in the fight!
You know Danny Bogan? I was on Pavelow with him at Hurbie. I went to DM then Patrick
That is great that you were on that very aircraft. What keeps the guns from hitting the blades or the fuel boom?
This is the type of person who gets the public interested in flying. Great talk.
Overhauled many Black hawks and Pave hawks years ago. Takes many hours to get them back to be serviceable. I always did everything I could to make sure everything worked perfectly as I knew they were headed for combat. One of the last things I did when I was alone was to carry a small bottle of holy water, and said a prayer for the safety of those who would fly her.
Amazing. You are a good man!
What an incredibly detailed walk around. The level Capt. Phil White has of his helicopter is absolutely astounding
Can’t agree more 🤯
Totally agreed!
We got rescued by one a few weeks ago. Talented persistent crews. Thank you for your service
That is very unfortunate! Our guys up at the Alaska Guard unit definitely get the most real world rescue calls out of all of us in the Air Force's Pavehawk community, great people and it is awesome that they were able to be there for you in your time of need! Also, saw your video, that was a beautiful plane!
An hour worth of Pave Hawk goodness, absolutely!
Haha, so happy that you liked it!!
One of the greatest things about the US military is the competence of the operators. This captain not only flies the aircraft, but he knows every square centimeter of this bird, historical aspects of the equipment, current aspects, and what each and every crew member is responsible for. I’m extremely impressed!! I was lucky enough to spend 10 years in the military, so I know how intense the training is. They only allow the most competent into these kinds of roles and I have the utmost respect for what these guys (and gals) do each and every day to protect our country. Kudos!!
Best 85 minutes I’ve spent on RUclips. Thank you guys.
O also watched the mig 25 and the mi-l mi 24, f16 is next on my watchlist
I am Korean. I rode uh-60p a lot when I was in the army 20 years ago. Sometimes, I've been on the USFK (black/elow camouflage pattern) and I remember skydiving and fast rope a lot. It's still the best helicopter for me. I miss the sound of the rotor. People like you deserve to be respected, just like our slogan "First in Last in Out"! Anyways "Thank u for u're service!!!
That's a call of the 4/7 CAV camp Stanley in Korea back in the 80's
Thanks to Cpt. Phil White and 41th Rescue Squadron for having us. One of the best, if not the best, walkarounds. Super interesting and deep enough to get a real glimpse on the aircraft's capabilities. Now i long even more for an accurate Pavehawk in DCS *lol* Thanks again Erik. \m/
White is such a racist name... should be banned not only the name but the word as a whole.. delete white!
As a GA pilot, this was extremely interesting. Capt. Whites knowledge is on another level! I do not mind paying taxes with incredible people and machines such as these! GREAT job!
Excellent video! Thanks Erik & Capt. White
That was one of the most interesting tours I"ve seen. Great job Phil and Erik!
Such a great tour of this aircraft. Most of your viewers will be knowledgeable on basic aeronotical tech but exactly the extra in depth layer sets this apart. It kept me fascinated in one go to the end which is not a small feat in this modern quick-and-hasty era. Thanks.
I am not. But the reason I watch these videos because everything is explained well, even for layman such as I.
Yes
Agreed
I was sent to Helman Province in 2010 with the danish army. We got help from you to evacuate our wounded and we could always count on you being there when we call. no matter what. it was incredibly reassuring to know if something were to happen then the help was there. many thanks for your service. and many thanks for this amazing video. all the best from Denmark
And all the best to you. NATO, Strong Together!
Thank you for your service
Wow!! I love blackhawk. I have served in Korean Air Force, and I was a mechanic for VH-60. It does not have winch system and it has different style cabin door and VIP seats. I think most mechanics for blackhawks have to have big muscle to charge the apu accumulator with a hand-pump. Thank you for your explaining!!
I was a Flight Engineer on these assigned to the 41st RQS when it was located on Patrick AFB. I was on a number of missions to scout practice LZs in the area around Moody in the months leading up to the relocation.
old H60A crewchief here. nice to see the updates
This is a very comprehensive guide to this helicopter. Capt. White is an excellent and knowledgeable officer.
wow, absolutely amazing that we have this information publicly, I mean I know it’s not really classified but other than these walkaround videos there’s no real in depth coverage on all the nitty gritty details and features of such an engineering marvel
Massive thanks to Erik and Phil White! This is an absolutely awesome overview of the aircraft, and you can tell Phil actually knows a lot of the history and engineering. Great job guys!
These walk arounds are great not only are they entertaining you can get a lot of info from them. Captain Phil is very knowledgeable on this aircraft.
Easily my favourite channel
Thanks man! That means a lot!!
Retired 129th checking in. Good job!
"That Others May Live"
R.I.P. To the brave men from PEDRO66. Gone but never forgotten
HH-43 B HUSKIE !!!
Awesome. Thanks for taking the time, Captain White.
Perfect! Thanks Capt White & Erik Johnston....these are super!
" Slime lights ", " egg beaters ". Loved the unofficial jargon.
Center console and cockpit is just wall to wall instrumentation, bonkers ! Wiring loombs must be a tight fit. Impressive engineering to fit so much in a not so big chopper.
I love the warthog landing at 42:20 in the background.
This video is amazing!! Awesome job Phil and Erik and thanks for your time and attention to detail showing off an amazing machine.
When I was in the Air Force and deployed to Iraq and for the Hurricane Katrina, I was a maintainer on the HH-60G out of Moody AFB.
Each video of army aircraft reminds me each moment of my 8 year service in Israel Air Force as a A-4 technician.... pilots, engines, cockpit and cockpit sounds........thank you for sweet memories,Erik! Once an aviator, always an aviator!
This guy knows his stuff. Well done.
We all were incredibly well-versed on the details of our birds. That's the job
Tail 356, I believe I've flown on that aircraft when it was assigned to the 48th RQS at Holloman AFB. I was a flight engineer at the time.
I worked on this bird in the phase dock from 1993 -1998 also with the 48th at HAFB.
Learned more about helicopter flight in a hour and a half than I ever knew before. More than that, I learned and reinforced the intellect and dedication it requires to protect us all. I dont think most appreciate the full responsibility of it all. Freaking amazing.
What an awesome video. As a model builder I really appreciate your attention to detail of every aspect of the Pave Hawk
Glad it was helpful!
I'm here in the distant past to request DCS UH-60 Black Hawk. When I read this in the future (if there is such a thing) I will be immensely enjoying that module.
Thanks in advance, Wags!
Ah man, this brings back memories. Well done.
Capt Phil made for a great walkaround, so well trained and professional
I worked on the first 9 H60's delivered to the Air Force at Eglin in '83. 55 ARRS. No more Doppler radar-it was state of the art at the time.
We are lucky to have such capable men and women serving and protecting us. Thank you for the fantastic tour of the helicopter.
This guy knows his way around a helicopter ! Great video !
This kind of content is something to be proud of Erik o/ Big thanks also to Phil for sharing his in-depth knowledge of this handsome and capable aircraft. This was a wholesome pot of beans to chew on. Edit: fixed wording
Captain White is a sharp, squared away officer. I was very impressed by his great presentation.
Wow! Great episode! A lot of innovative features I had no idea about!
My dad, now 98, did all of the preliminary design for the Blackhawk. I remember when he told me about the crashworthy features and the wire cutters. They went over to the lunar landing pad a t NASA and cashed a Huey. He did all the mission design parameters, weights, fluid dynamics. He spent most of the 70's between FT Eustis and Sykorsky in Philly.
Sikorsky: How big should the guns be?
Air Force: Yes
HAh! THAT.... is hilarious! Perfect answer. :-)
Grat video
This guy explains things very well !
I agree! Capt Phil White did an amazing job
Thank you Capt White! Very well spoken throughout.
I'm soon starting a model of this helo so it's great to know all the parts and see it in detail.
Thanks to you ErikJohnsoton too!
Great job on this video Erik. Towards the end of my dad's career he worked on pavehawks at Nas corpus Christi Texas for 30 more years till he passed away
Thanks! I sure am happy that you liked it!! We had a great time making it!
This was the most amazing walkaround ever!
Very Cool vid! Lived close to Wheeler in Hawaii. Always loved the Blackhawks flying down valley at night low enough to rattle the pictures on the walls! TACAN has been around for a while. Boy almost 50 years since Blackhawks 1st flight! Thanks to all who fly her and keep her flying!
Only an AVGEEK knows your channel is a priceless 💎
God bless 🙏🏻❤️
Glad you like it! We spend a lot of time making it as informative and accurate as possible
Thank you very much for this in depth view into, what is to me,
one of the most impressive machines created by mankind.
It would be an honor just to work on one of these babies.
Glad you enjoyed it!
GREAT PIECE OF ENGINEERING !!!
WELL THOUGHT & WELL DESIGNED !!!
BIG THANKS TO CAPT. PHIL WHITE & ERIK, REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING IT !!!
Definitely one of your best videos! Extremely comprehensive walkaround and answered tons of questions in detail of my favorite helicopter- Blackhawk (well the whole 60 family ;-) )

Even when it was dubious at best you came and got my aided out, the heart and courage is unmatched. In a place no shadows fall, Echo Hard PEDRO-66! HM1 Leary "Doc"
It’s a shame you don’t know anything about the 60! Lol!!! Obviously joking! This is fantastic! It’s not just a tour of the 60 but a tour of the history too. Just fantastic! From one Captain to another, I salute you. Well done!
Outstanding video! I learned a lot as a helicopter enthusiast! Thank you for your time and dedication sir.
Capt. Phil White is a walking encyclopedia. Great stuff!
What a nice fella, really informative and upbeat. Very nice walkaround!
Erik, great dissertation on the h60. I work in Stratford, Ct plant and you are right on the money with what you are talking about. It’s interesting to see the older model and similarities and legacy technologies… awesome, thanks for your service.
Very cool! Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching it
“The Mark 1 Eyeball” made me go from liking him to loving him
It is obvious why there are no dislikes of this video, they would track them down with this beast.
👍
And do what? Save them from stupid? He didn’t go over that system, what would it cost to have him fly over my house and hit it a few times with the “anti-stupid” laser, does it have an anti-lazy laser?
Nice one again! Cool that he goes through the technical part of the flight control. Thanks
Great job Phil and Erik!
Best walkaround. The pilot explain those stuff in passion. Lovely video.
This is outstanding, thank you!
Thanks man! Glad you like it
Erik these walk arounds are amazing. Thank you for producing these.
Best regards to all the Moody AFB team who do amazing work. Jack can look forward to a speedy rescue, and he'll be with the good guys shortly.
Great tour! Ah, memories! Loved working on the Pave Hawk at PIAP, OR.
I was stationed at Holloman AFB, NM (1993-1998) when that helo (91-26356) showed up from Sikorsky in the early 1990's brand new. I performed about 3 phase inspections on it. The following were there during my time - 91-26356, 91-26357, 91-26358, 91-26359 (RIP), 91-26406 and 91-26407. It's awesome to hear it called the 'heritage bird'.
Such in depth knowledge explained to us avgeeks so well, much admiration for your skill and dedication to duty sir.Erik you have another winner here, thank you.
Thank you. Excellent job. Great aircraft.
Love this as a mechanic alot of this surprises me like no fuel to throttle its just bleed air
