If we've ever uttered this to you, apologies, but I love the acronym of what FEAR means so often: "False Evidence Appearing Real." We have to discern what is truly worth fearing vs. what is not. But I don't blame you for the fears you were so brave to share. You. Are. Awesome.
@@ChristineLozada all your fears are valid as a woman and as a traveler, you're very genuine and sincere in your concen ,its not an easy world for a foreigner to travel anywhere especially a woman because many cultures have lots of cultural and religious restrictions on women
Noooooo, you’re way overthinking things. Addis Ababa has 100 thousands of visitors a year. Next time ask people talk to them, you would really know the reality’s . Ethiopians have a way of not being into other’s business but once you start talking to them, they are one of the friendliest, most polite and respectful people you ever met.
Kudos to you brave woman! Love your honesty about being a woman traveling alone. I couldn't travel to another country on my own let alone in the US unless I was forced to! Enjoy all your videos...you inspire me to be more self confident when I travel with all your info...thank you!
I was going to go back to South East Asia or Dominican Republic but always wanted to visit Ethiopia. I travel solo as well it fun and adventurous. Great video.
@@ChristineLozada,I thank you much more. Ethiopia is a country I’ve always wanted to visit. I will but it would be wise to at least know someone there before I do so. Bless you and stay safe.
A good question. It depends on how much time you spend at sea level.. I'm always at sea level, so for me it was a bit of a challenge...but I also snow ski in Colorado and have mountain biked Cusco in Peru. Does anyone else have an experience they can share in the comments?
I think you just think too much. It’s 21 century ppl understand things. I know it’s 3rd world country but it’s not that that bad. Next time you go let me know I’ll show around
Yeah staring is very common in places with high poverty. Usually means they are star struck. “You’re from a part of the world I want to be” is usually what they probably think. Still to travel alone, it’s awesome. Breaking down all barriers! Well done, Christine!
The fear factor is a bet of exaggeration & overblown, primarily because you have no knowledge of Ethiopian tapestries of culture & the endless hospitality propensity that exists…………………lastly you do resemble like Ethiopian urban wealthy lady🌞🌞so that is a big plus. You can blend in well if you incorporate Ethiopian garment😀😀
@@ChristineLozada ... lady ur unfounded fear is no reason to insult my very proud and companionate people known world over for their hospitality... they look at u in awe because as u said u stand out is all ... don’t travel to “poor dark continent ready to attack u ” before u grow up ...
I an Ethiopian and I don’t think you said anything far fetched. The truth is that it is a difficult place. Especially if you are used to western amenities then it can really be challenging. Even Addis with all its access to the rest of the world can alienating at times. I was born and raised there, so even for me when I go back, sometimes I am like how did I even tolerate living like this. There needs to be a lot of work done to improve the services there. Like any place there are positives and negatives. For me even though I live in the West, my heart is back home. Because even though life is much easier in the west, you also don’t get the real social connections like you do back home. The staring thing annoys me too but you already figured it out that it is one of curiosity and not malice.
I liked your videos, I am planning to go to playa del carmen, here you mentioned you had a lot of problems with men, could you please talk about this problems? thanks
Oooh I love playa! They're aggressive there.. hmm. Sometimes cat calling is not a big deal and you can ignore and walk away, but in Playa I had on consistent days, men approaching me and putting their arms around me or touching my arms and REALLY invading my personal space while trying to hit on me. 👀 That kind of aggressiveness is more uncommon than common in my experience.
Men are scary anywhere around the world , Ethiopia n people are really nice if you get to know the community. Don’t travel to a place if your not going to get know the people or the culture . What’s the point of traveling if all you do is complain how scared you are .
Glad you’re from Addis. A lot of people from United States don’t know what it’s like, and are shocked when they go. It’s hard to understand that when you’re already from there.
yesss! thank you for these suggestions! both were on my radar but i was limiting the amount of movement i had around ethiopia given what was happening in tigray. do you have thoughts on this? i was hearing from the locals a very mixed bag about safety and fear
I don't think Ethiiopia is a place to go to for a traveler like you. If you don't have a plan to hike Simien Mountains or go to erta ale or enjoy cultural experiences of a country nation of 87 languages you will not like Ethiopia.

I plan to go to Ethiopia in January of 2022. I am scared of the altitude because of the thin air. Was it hard to breathe?

Ah yes i agree. such good insight. NICE shebs
lol, as someone from the region, i can guarantee you that is not what they are thinking.
Dude they are not used to see foreigners as much as other places. This kids have nothing to do and curious to see some one different that they are.
Nothing to do with being star struck they are just not used to seeing foreigners its just human curiosity

Given what was happening in Tigray, many places in the north felt off limits to me.
U are one of most junta members u now junta .junta .most killer mafi member
You ARE brave....going to these places alone! Very cool...
