I'm happy that this game had a good ending. Imagine living in a world being enslaved their whole lives, death is always at their door, their cultures and humanity stripped by the Renans. They deserve at least this much. I mean I liked Berseria's ending and it fits Velvet's character arc to end like that more than anything, so seeing a good ending is definitely a breath of fresh air. I kinda wish there was more tho. At this point of the game, I pretty much fell in love with everyone and their ships lol, so I would definitely want to see more. Anyway, loved this game. It wasn't perfect but it is a modern tales game, it has fun combat, the characters are lovable, skits are something I got used too but still is fun to watch. One of my main complaint with this game tho, aside from wanting the game to be a tad bit longer, I wished we had a subquest where we could explore more into Vholran's past. I mean he is fine right now, but if he had the same treatment as Seymour of FF10 (wherein they showed his past through bits and pieces of info and scenes outside the main narrative) that would be rad. I kinda wanted to understand his hatred of the Great Spirit and everything more. Anyway, good game. Law and Rinwell is my otp btw lol
Game's biggest issues story wise were more or less: -Almedria cutscenes being very cringey (due to both Rinwell's expressions when they first meet her and when Almedria is laughing (her laughter reminds me of a Disney Princess queen/female villain's laughter...just makes you wince a bit lol)) -the Lords could've had more cutscenes tied to them to flesh out their characters/motives a bit more (in particular Balseph, Ganabelt, and Almedria. Personally Vholran was done fairly decently though you need to read the 4 other monitors in the hidden Lab on Lenegis to get some important background info on him...should've required those to be read before proceeding with the story imo as many people making complaints about his character obviously didn't read them...i only did cause i read every bit of text in a rpg from npc dialogue to book/computer dialogue....hell i mash X on every square surface to see if you can interact with something in some way just in case some story decriptions/items/quest triggers could be hidden somewhere lol (they don't do it much anymore but 10+ years ago tons of items were hidden this way). Still could've expanded on him a bit more as well if they wanted (in particular to how his life was before being captured for the sovereign project...think they could've explored that wih Alphen too tbh). As for Dohalim he was more or less done the best due to being a party member though i think they could've explored more artifact focused cutscenes/skits for him). If not alive they could've added said cutscenes on Lenegis via an important npc related to them talking about said Lord's past/goals. -Lenegis could've been paced/broken up better. Imo they should've separated the city into 5 sectors for the city each based off a Lord that the people that lived there supported and placed a small dungeon in between each to break up the narrative pace a bit and added some story cutscenes/goals to each sector or at least 3 to 5 lore driven side quests. -They needed a lot more world lore/character building side quests...the 2nd biggest problem I had with the game was the vast majority of side quests were fetch or hunt quests and not really cutscene driven side quests that we've seen in the past 4 games before Arise where the quality of side quests, imo, had become better and better for the series...closest we got to this in Arise was the Lord side quest in Lenegis (granted i've yet to do the post game quest so maybe there's a bit there for the EX dungeon)...granted imo that side quest should've been broken into 5 separate side quest that focused on each lord and were a lot longer (could've easily made this the main story part of the 5 different sectors based off the Lord they promote idea i mentioned above where the goal was to gather intel on Lenegis/Renan society) -probably should've also added a dungeon that was about 2 maps long between the Lab on Lenegis and where you get Alphen and Shionne's final story costumes -while on Daeq Faezol (Hevrekt's spaceship in case you forgot the name) i think they should've added some attack from the Great Spirit controled Helganquil and maybe one of the monsters you fight in the final dungeon that are likely made from past Sovereigns of the Crown Contest...would only add this for the sake of breaking up the cutscenes a bit for pacing issues (pretty much the only valid criticism anyone's made about the 2nd half of the story -the whole forgiveness message should've been dropped imo and it should've kept the message Kisara more or less stated to Dohalim after her brother died and she joined the party which was more or less: 'i will not forgive you but i will put it behind me for the sake of the future.' Why they even started throwing forgiveness out there starting with Almedria's final moments was kinda ridiculous as the message i mentioned fits the story's themes far more imo and rather than telling Vholran he forgave him Alphen should've been saying more along the lines of 'give up Vholran you lost, come quietly and repent' or something if they still wanted Alphen to somehow still attempt to take Vholran in alive...otherwise he should've just aimed to kill him like he initially did in Del Fharis Castle/Pelegion. -and while not really bad per-se i think making Renans (humanoid Renans, not Helganquil) the bad guys trying to restore Rena by takng Dahna's astral energy would've been the better move with whoever was the last Sovereign being the final boss instead of the Great Spirit (I don't consider Vholran the final boss as once you hit a HP check you can no longer die and hitting said check is fairly easy...his fight is more like Emil vs Ratatosk in Dawn of a New World which i also don't consider the final boss an consider Richter it instead) with said guy trying to use the Great Spirit for his ends instead of being used by the Great Spirit...maybe they still could've had Vholran come in for a final duel still just to have that final rival moment at the end but without the forgiveness crap. As for ending I'd say it could end more or less the same though with both worlds being united to be saved. Now then with all that said while Namco originally said they will not be doing story dlc they just had a poll up for the EU where one of the questions asked if players wanted story dlc for Arise...so there's a chance they may announce they've changed their mind and will make one, hopefully a post story dlc focused on what was happening in the world post the final boss. One story line i can see occurring is one that is focused on dealing with remnants of Renan forces that still want to subjugate Dahnans due to their lives being more convenient that way and could even throw in an antagonistic Dahnan force focused on attacking Renans in retaliation to what was done to them for 300 years. Of course with such a dlc i would rather have it be on par with Graces F's Lineage and Legacies After Story (was about 20 to 30 hours long with side quests) rather than Zestiria's Alisha dlc (about 5 hours or so long and mainly focused on Rose and some of the Seraphs recounting the game's ending events to Alisha...was universally banned and more or less an example of bad story dlc)...if it's on the Graces F After Story quality i would happily drop another 20 bucks or so for it....if Alisha quality it'd only be worth about 3 to 4 bucks imo.
@@nicogalax Ya, same with the lab in Lenegis as well for both him, the Crown Contest's origins, etc that were all major story points imo that should've been made mandatory to watch/have a cutscene attached...many complaints i see about the game's story comes from people complaining about stuff that was covered in those computer monitors or some other optional npc dialogue/books/etc throughout the game. In this regard i will say Namco fucked up by not making them tied to the main story itself and required reading.
@@ifrit1937 to me it's because of the number of cutscenes, they couldn't have made more just to explain those so they mentioned u could read those if u wanted to know more but they covered a summary of that info in cutscenes
Man would be nice if they also broke the mold with tales ending department where post game isn't saved before final boss fight but actually after the fight, and you have a little in game epilogue and whole near feature where you get your own hut in your ranch and can use materials to upgrade, decorate it with furniture etc. And you unlock wedding attire for Alphen and Shionne. :p And if you rest in your home with party members you get additional skits between your party members about how they are doing with their life after the whole ordeal.
@@sLasHeRxXx07 Nah RDR is like a whole 'nother chapter in this case, it's kinda of akin to [SPOILER - Don't expand if you haven't finished 3rd playthrough] in Nier Automata, I was thinking more of just some postgame stuff with epilogue, some end game activities with additional fun side activities that feed into the end of the story and give closure to each character etc. not a full on blown out part 2. :P . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . third playthrough where it's a full blown out nihilistic continuation from the endings of the first 2 playthroughs which feels less like a postgame and more like Nier Automata 2. :P
To have a game where the ending was so emotional and that song plays. Holy shit i just didn’t want the game to end. But we got this beautiful happy ending. This game made me fall back in love with JRPG’s and the stories that they tell us. The only thing that’s is upsetting is that this story has ended. I loved all the characters and how they developed. I will treasure these feelings the game gave me and how each one of these actors and actresses preformed. Thank you for this experience.
That was exactly how I felt. Like in Tales of Berseria and Zestiria, I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters. They become real through the connection they have to your heart because it felt like they were written by fellow human beings who knows what it's like to struggle for anything in life. From little to extremes.
Yep like in Tales of the Abyss, when Tear was able to finally sing the Grand Fonic Hymn all the party members HP bars went. They better make a remaster of that game...
I just finish this game. OMG the first thing alphen did when Shionne thorns went away was a kiss 💕. Then they get married afterwards 🤧 That just sealed it for me. It almost brought a tear in this grown man. In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful, happy ending in a JRPG in a long time!
everyone had a great performance in this game, but Ray Chase as Alphen, his performance? beyond great, he emotes emocion so well, the anguish, sadness, relief, pain, every emotion that the character feels in the story is emoted so well through his voice, amazing performance that ending? I'm so happy that they showed the protagonists kissing and it wasn't an accident or off-screen, it was the reward for persisting to play the game, fighting to save shionne and the world, you get to see alphen and shionne getting their happy ending (with it being implied that rinwell and law and kisara and dohalim end up together as well), not only do they kiss, but also marry at the end of the first credits sequence, this game left me very fulfilled especially since the relationship of alphen and shionne really takes time to grow and it doesn't grow out of nowhere, you get to see alphen and shionne care for each other, saving each other, being there when things get tough, enduring pain for one another and also get to know ahead of time (before the ending) that they do know that they love each other from combat quotes and their scene in daeq faezol, we also get to know why shionne doesn't reciprocate at the beginning of act 2 (after you defeat vholran for the first time) she loves alphen at that point but she thinks she has to die to save the world and because of that she doesn't want to fall in love, even though she already did Now I also have my gripes with the ending, it's not perfect, it was established that there's a bit of dhana's will on everybody, but that's not my issue with the ending, the renas alma was the only thing that could seal the thorns for good, after it being destroyed the only way to defeat the thorns was to kinda cancel it out with light? Makes sence, but at the same time it doesn't sit right with me, feels very deus ex machina, I would've preffered if Alphen would just put Vholran to rest, he had no redeeming traits and just because he was a victim of becoming a sovereign he gets to have a chance of redemption? Then again it was pretty poetic that to defeat the evil force you have to lend power from everybody you met and saved, those people, dhanans, are lending their power to save a renan, which also shows that the dhanans are willing to forgive the renans from what they've done All in all, despite my issues with the ending it's still beautiful to see and one of the best tales games, liked the gameplay, the battle system was amazing and story (even though the elemental spirits are to be interpreted as part of the story when most of them are actually part of side quests, post game level sidequests at that, once you kill them you should have no issues defeating the final boss, I haven't done them, but I hope they also explain what they are in this universe, are the summon spirits? are they guardians? don't answear, I want to find out by myself, but still, I can't help but wonder) I could talk endlesly about this game, one last example is that it's really amazing that rinwell stops law from killing zephyr, but doesn't stop her from killing ganabelt, the person that killed law's father, but law stops rinwell from killing almeidrea, the person that killed her parents, they know how they feel or how they would feel in their respective situations, they're mirrors of one another, rinwell pretends to be a grown up even though she's just a child like law and law embraces his childlike self
I think there may be a sequel? Vholran's speech felt like it was foreshadowing something. I just found it weird how he talked crap to Alphen taking the "selfish" path that would lead to corruption and betrayal, even though he's fighting to save everyone (and completely succeeds) while Vholran is fighting just to rule ambiguously evil. Sure Alphen is putting everything at risk to save Shionne, but still! If there is a sequel, maybe it'll be about the complications of merging Renan and Dhanan societies and Vholran is doing something evil in "the darkness." I can totally imagine an older Alphen (but I may just be thinking of Arthur from Beseria cause of the similar outfits and Ray Chase voicing both of them). And the protagonist could be his kid.
@@chrisdaughen5257 I see what you're saying, but what I think vholran meant was that he didn't know if it would work, it's selfish to risk the whole population of dahna and lenegis just to have a chance of saving the person you love A sequel could be possible yes, but the way the credits showed their lives, alphen hunting, shionne awaiting his return, dohalim presumably the leader of the renans and possibly an archeologist too, although that role could be filled by rinwell since she also showed an interest in that, kisara probably leading the people of menancia and law does... something Everyone has a goal and life looks pretty good for them, if it's a sequel like destiny 2, where a new threat arises (hehe) after years of peace and the next generation of heroes, alphen's son like you were saying, has to defeat it with some help from the previous generation, I could see that, especially since the last 4 tales games have been a new concept and a continuation of that concept (xillia 1 and 2, zestiria and berseria), so maybe that could happen if the pattern continues

As long as it's like Graces F quality I'd be all in for story dlc as i liked Arise a lot (my goty and currently in contention with Symphonia for the past 2 months for my favorite Tales game, and since Symphonia holds it as well my favorite game of all time). Definitely would lie to see how the world looks post unification (if it's dlc and not a full on sequel i don't expect to see every inch of it but if we could get 2 to 3 cities and at least 8 fields and 5 dungeons i'd be happy). I don't really see a full blown sequel unless the game sells a fair bit more (another mil or 2) and has a lot of demand for one (the whole post world unification can easily create tons of potential for a sequel after all: 1st you could have Renans still trying to suppress Dahnan but without the Great Spirit/Heganquill controlling them as likely they'd want to keep power, 2nd you could have a Dahnan organization like the Black Wings formed focused on purging Renans so the main goal is to stop this, 3rd you could have a Dahnan and Renan kingdom at war with one another years/centuries after the ending of Arise on the new world, 4th some new Astral Spirit was formed or some other monstrous byproduct when the worlds united which could start to cause issues with the world, and so on...granted all Tales games easily have dozens of different stories that could be made after their ending but these 4 come to mind in particular for Arise's themes/story beats.
they didn't need to defeat the thorns anymore because it was a defense mechanism from the great spirit not wanting to die. Since they joined both worlds and giving the great spirit a chance to live on it no longer needed the throwns. So yeah that part does make sense and is elaborated on earlier.

I mean, Berseria was misery from beginning to end, with a few hints of hope here and there. The ends we got there was perfect for the story, I loved it. What made me the saddest was having Eizen slowly turn into my favorite character, despite having played Zestiria before and knowing his ultimate fate.
@@nirdram8549 all they had to do was give Velvet an actual ending. It felt like she carried everybody till the end and then she’s just forgotten. But Arise’s ending is great. I will say I like Berseria’s characters more, but I like Arise’s story better

In a way it was exactly what she wanted, but in a very twisted manner, ironic even, considering how co-dependent she and Laphicet were (she on a more emotional level, he on a more physical one. Can’t really say he was as dependent as she was emotionally because of all the secrets he kept from her and all). It took me by surprise but it made sense, at least in my opinion. I was satisfied with it.
@@nirdram8549 true, Berseria ending made a lot of sense, but it was bittersweet, I teared up for the fates of the siblings. Made me feel like, "Velvet, you finally got your wish to be with your brother and at the same time, saving the world was a bonus." Arise made me tear up too, but tears of joy. Thay made me feel like, "Man, Alphen we fought for this! We fought so you and Shionne and everyone else can get the happiness you all deserve, for the new future of Dahna and Rena!" Both great games which draws two entirely different emotions for me.
@@MrVince329 What I mean is, they’re the only successful couple. Other Tales couples end up being seperated or one dies. Only Alphen and Shionne stayed together before and after the end. What I’m saying is, they’re the only one had a true happy ending.
@@J4ckKun Yeah, there were numerous ships in the series that got happy endings, this one just got more screen time. My personal favorite is Yuri and Estellise from Tales of Vesperia. It's understated and wholesome and provokes the imagery of Estelle sitting on the throne as Empress, shining like a beacon of purity while a black wolf watching over her from the shadows, ready to rip out the throat of any who would dare come to harm her.
I am very satisfied with the ending, I didn't fight my way through just to see all my efforts go to waste. I am so glad it's a happy ending. Also, what conquered racism is love and forgiveness. What conquered fear, was hope. This game, withour a doubt, my fave tales game
Im almost positive the Japanese didnt see racism as the woke garbage the left is spewing out today. This was real racism persecution like the holocaust etc, not this garbage today. Soon we will be like danaans if we become docile sheep for the government to control

@@nicogalax It's not a sad ending in the way you think it is. It's just a resolution to Velvet's years of mental and emotional pain as well as the decision she makes at the end. The game doesn't take the B plot revenge route where everyone dies or the MC turns evil.
Such an amazing Soundtrack! This game is really beautiful. I didn't like how the story turned out at the end but still it is an amazing game. Has a special place in my heart.
Tales of Xillia 1&2: 😢😭😭the game deserves less hate that it receives. Tales of Berseria: 😢😢😭😭😭 we all know the characters fates from the moment we saw them and knew that it needs to match Zestiria’s timeline.
@@thebakalord I really hope they make Tale of Xillia remake for 1 and actually make the ending good where Jude actually falls in love with Milla. It's obvious that was what they were hinting at and I hate games that don't just put characters in a couple statues when you obviously know they like each other. Tale of Arise ending was PERFECT where they got married.
And so they save both worlds and brought together in peace, her curse is broken and finally the two of them and their friends live happily ever after, now that's a good story to remember off.
Just finished the main campaign and will go for plat in a later date. But damn, that was the most satisfying ending I've seen in all tales games finished. Now I'm torn between this and Metroid for my personal GOTY
My first Tales game I ever played and beat. I thought the final dungeon would never end but I absolutely love this game and would recommend it to anyone. What a beautiful ending too
I finished this game a few days ago. When I finished it I literally bawled. I was sad that my journey with these characters came to an end and that they were able to finally get peace with no one being sacrificed. That kiss when her thorns were finally gone, Alphen and Shionnes wedding at the very end completely sealed the deal for me. The game definitely had it's issues, but the ending made it all worth it in the end for me. So happy we got a happy ending and 3 pairings. This is a first in the Tales series. Definitely one of my favorite Tales games. Still over here sad that I finished the game 😭.
I just finished it a few hours ago and when they kissed I was screaming HELL YES and was so happy, haha. I wanted a happy ending for these two soooo bad and I got it! The story in the second half had its problems but the ending was fsntastic! ^.^
I just beat it last night. This game made me love games again that feeling of going on an adventure and amazing storyline. I will keep this game in my heart forever. Love when a game is completed and made to perfection.
After i beaten the game and watched this animation i cried like a new born baby, i waited for that kiss throughout the entire game and the wedding cought me by suprise, i am bit sad now that the story has ended, i finished everything there is to, sub quests, owl collection, secret bosses, purchased the best equipment, nothing left to do but roam around...lets hope there will be Tales of Arise 2

This is what Zestria should have been. But it was not meant to be. This is why Berseria where Velvet saves her brother is fantastic And why Arise is fantastic because Alphen/Iron Mask gave his best to save everyone, even the ones closest to him to not live his life as a slave. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
So satisfying the final battle was all out button mash haha. I would have been annoyed if I had to spam healing. That always kills the mood in some rpgs.
To people who do not understand why Dahna's Will formed: If you recall it does have the potential to exist, but since the energy is scattered it doesn't have an ego. Alphen and the crew travelled all around Dahna and left an imprint of themselves on people, therefore it made Dahna recognise them (which happened long before the ending). Rinwell constantly said the energy has a "voice" throughout the game, especially after she was engulfed by the "White light" of Dahna. And remember the Fire Spirit monster way back in the fight with the first Lord? That was just part of the Astrtal energy that formed a sort of will. So it was not really a "Deus ex Machina", since it's logically based on what happened before. And it's still a story about slavery from the start to finish: Dahnians to Renans, Renans to the Helganquil (being mere test subjects), the Helganquil to Rena's Will, and Rena to it's own fear. But anyway I kinda teared up when Shionne, who spent her life alone, feared and experimented on, told Alphen "I'm with you", showing how much she trusts him. Also during that kiss scene. And the idyllic home life scenes :)
That definiteky added charm to Alphen for me, the moment I heard him I was like, Oh poor Noctis, from Riches to Rags, from prince to slave! From raven hair to white! Jk, but yeah, Ray chase gave justice to Alphen's character
alphen was a great protag. He wasn't completely goofy or dumb, neither was he a sulking serious all the time kind of guy. They struck a great balance with him
After the last four Tales of games, I really needed this ending. I think Berseria's bitter-sweet end was well done, but it was stacked on top of other ending's that weren't very fulfilling to me. Arise's ending on the other hand, was just the ending that kept on giving. It's like: hey here, have a legit kiss scene, and this sweet moment of Rinwell getting to hug Shionne, oh you thought we were done? Lol no, have these pictures of the characters future lives, and guess what? Alphen and Shionne also got married. It sure made me feel bad for ever being skeptical of how Arise was going to end. So many games have either generally sad endings, or bitter-sweet ones, since it seems to be the trend, that I almost always expect it. Getting something purely happy was more of a shock than anything. This ending was just very satisfying and felt earned after everything the characters went through.
This! When Rinwell touched Shionnes hand and then hugged her I started completely bawling. This was the wholesome ending I needed more than I realized.

With our world in its state right now and all the toxicity I'm really glad they did a good ending. Feels like writters these days think that having a bittersweet or bad ending makes a good story and I'm just sick of it
I wish the ending woul have been they teleported to wasteland (Berseria's planet) and save Velvet from her eternal slumber. I still can't get over her tragical ending =(
It was really, really sad. Berseria ending got me like, we fought for Velvet's vengeance and her desire to be with her brother. I actually thought Velvet can finally let go and move on, but no. She chose it and I, as a player helped her get the ending she always wanted. As for Arise, I fought for Alphen and the people of Dahna so the happy ending made me happy and got me teary eyed, because Alphen and Shionne stood their ground against their fate and even had the planet conspire to give them that happy ending through the power of their will and the people's will whom they liberated from 3 centuries of oppression. Both games are great, both games draw out two entirely different emotions from me.
Has anyone else noticed the the great spirit is similar to Lambda from tales of graces. Both of there plans involve draining planets of their energy. They can both control others. Their dungeons are both at the center of a planet.
game was definitely rich in story...battle radiance and never ending cycle of battling graphics...i never failed to expect so much in a tales game series...but tales of arise has done it 200%... goood job devs!!! tales of arise 2 requesting :) right everyone!!!
If there was ever a tales of arise 2, I wouldn’t mind if it took place well in the future, and the main protagonist could be Alphen and Shionne’s Child. Their name would be have to be (Something) Zephyr Imeris Daymore. Law and Rinwell’s kid would have to be a party member. Idk if Kisara and Dohalim would have gotten together but their descendants would also be badass and in the party too. And maybe the antagonists could be maybe some kind of invasion of a new species from another planet, or the return of more helganquil or something. I’m sorry I’m fanfic-ing I love this game so freaking much.
After like 3 games in a row (4 if you count Rays arc 1), we finally get a game without a freaking sacrifice ending. I was so glad we finally moved on from this, i was really getting sick of it.
I am so happy for them even though their actual story has ended off-screen their love story and lives still continue. People don't be sad that their story has ended instead be happy that you are able to witness and enjoy it also don't worry their life story still continues off-screen so be happy about it.

love this game/ journey so much. Combat is amazing. Feels like Im playing with friends in co-op. The characters are all well-crafted and have different mechanics. The details in the dialogue have been well done, and the dialogue is seamless between combat, skit scenes and travelling around. even the scene at the beginning of this when Shionne goes to touch Alphen and realizes she can't do that is a reflection of the detail. The end fight was so tense, I had no idea what was going to happen. This game and the characters will always have a place in my heart.
I agree, this game made me fall back inlove with jrpgs again. Like you, you’re group felt so alive when traveling with them. Their skits, cutscenes and just combat with them saying encouraging things or witty remarks. The character development was god tier in this game. Only wish we could get more story with them.
I have completed this game just recently. Holy shit I love it, and this ending was super satisfying and gave me the biggest smile on my face. I think Arise has just dethroned Berseria as my favorite Tales game.
This one is a very close tie with Vesperia for my favourite Tales game. It certainly has the best ending for me, especially after considering how bittersweet Berseria’s ending was.
My first Tales of game series. and it was a blast playing it. Over 100 hours worth. So much to do in the game. I actually came across this thanks to Granblue fantasy relink trailers. Both games looked similar in the fighting style. So i thought why not give it a shot before waiting for Granblue fantasy relink that comes 2022. I didn't regret a thing :)

I was so scared they would kill her off in the end, AND WITHOUT KISSING OR TOUCHING I WOULD BE SO PISSED. But then the music came and they kissed. made me so happy. great game, and an amazing journey.
I was so bitter when the game was over. Because I wanted more to the story. I wanted to be able explore the new planet with the gang. I wanted to see more. I wish the game wasn't so short.
I was expecting post credit scenes showing what everyone is doing with their lives like Berseria. I wonder if arise will get a sequel/prequel like the past couple of games have.
An actual happy ending for once. Ever since Xillia, all tales endings are bittersweet. I was expecting either Alphen or Shionne to sacrifice themselves given the history of the past tales games.

I'm happy that this game had a good ending. Imagine living in a world being enslaved their whole lives, death is always at their door, their cultures and humanity stripped by the Renans. They deserve at least this much. I mean I liked Berseria's ending and it fits Velvet's character arc to end like that more than anything, so seeing a good ending is definitely a breath of fresh air.
I kinda wish there was more tho. At this point of the game, I pretty much fell in love with everyone and their ships lol, so I would definitely want to see more.
Anyway, loved this game. It wasn't perfect but it is a modern tales game, it has fun combat, the characters are lovable, skits are something I got used too but still is fun to watch. One of my main complaint with this game tho, aside from wanting the game to be a tad bit longer, I wished we had a subquest where we could explore more into Vholran's past. I mean he is fine right now, but if he had the same treatment as Seymour of FF10 (wherein they showed his past through bits and pieces of info and scenes outside the main narrative) that would be rad. I kinda wanted to understand his hatred of the Great Spirit and everything more.

Game's biggest issues story wise were more or less:
-Almedria cutscenes being very cringey (due to both Rinwell's expressions when they first meet her and when Almedria is laughing (her laughter reminds me of a Disney Princess queen/female villain's laughter...just makes you wince a bit lol))
-the Lords could've had more cutscenes tied to them to flesh out their characters/motives a bit more (in particular Balseph, Ganabelt, and Almedria. Personally Vholran was done fairly decently though you need to read the 4 other monitors in the hidden Lab on Lenegis to get some important background info on him...should've required those to be read before proceeding with the story imo as many people making complaints about his character obviously didn't read them...i only did cause i read every bit of text in a rpg from npc dialogue to book/computer dialogue....hell i mash X on every square surface to see if you can interact with something in some way just in case some story decriptions/items/quest triggers could be hidden somewhere lol (they don't do it much anymore but 10+ years ago tons of items were hidden this way). Still could've expanded on him a bit more as well if they wanted (in particular to how his life was before being captured for the sovereign project...think they could've explored that wih Alphen too tbh). As for Dohalim he was more or less done the best due to being a party member though i think they could've explored more artifact focused cutscenes/skits for him). If not alive they could've added said cutscenes on Lenegis via an important npc related to them talking about said Lord's past/goals.
-Lenegis could've been paced/broken up better. Imo they should've separated the city into 5 sectors for the city each based off a Lord that the people that lived there supported and placed a small dungeon in between each to break up the narrative pace a bit and added some story cutscenes/goals to each sector or at least 3 to 5 lore driven side quests.
-They needed a lot more world lore/character building side quests...the 2nd biggest problem I had with the game was the vast majority of side quests were fetch or hunt quests and not really cutscene driven side quests that we've seen in the past 4 games before Arise where the quality of side quests, imo, had become better and better for the series...closest we got to this in Arise was the Lord side quest in Lenegis (granted i've yet to do the post game quest so maybe there's a bit there for the EX dungeon)...granted imo that side quest should've been broken into 5 separate side quest that focused on each lord and were a lot longer (could've easily made this the main story part of the 5 different sectors based off the Lord they promote idea i mentioned above where the goal was to gather intel on Lenegis/Renan society)
-probably should've also added a dungeon that was about 2 maps long between the Lab on Lenegis and where you get Alphen and Shionne's final story costumes
-while on Daeq Faezol (Hevrekt's spaceship in case you forgot the name) i think they should've added some attack from the Great Spirit controled Helganquil and maybe one of the monsters you fight in the final dungeon that are likely made from past Sovereigns of the Crown Contest...would only add this for the sake of breaking up the cutscenes a bit for pacing issues (pretty much the only valid criticism anyone's made about the 2nd half of the story
-the whole forgiveness message should've been dropped imo and it should've kept the message Kisara more or less stated to Dohalim after her brother died and she joined the party which was more or less: 'i will not forgive you but i will put it behind me for the sake of the future.' Why they even started throwing forgiveness out there starting with Almedria's final moments was kinda ridiculous as the message i mentioned fits the story's themes far more imo and rather than telling Vholran he forgave him Alphen should've been saying more along the lines of 'give up Vholran you lost, come quietly and repent' or something if they still wanted Alphen to somehow still attempt to take Vholran in alive...otherwise he should've just aimed to kill him like he initially did in Del Fharis Castle/Pelegion.
-and while not really bad per-se i think making Renans (humanoid Renans, not Helganquil) the bad guys trying to restore Rena by takng Dahna's astral energy would've been the better move with whoever was the last Sovereign being the final boss instead of the Great Spirit (I don't consider Vholran the final boss as once you hit a HP check you can no longer die and hitting said check is fairly easy...his fight is more like Emil vs Ratatosk in Dawn of a New World which i also don't consider the final boss an consider Richter it instead) with said guy trying to use the Great Spirit for his ends instead of being used by the Great Spirit...maybe they still could've had Vholran come in for a final duel still just to have that final rival moment at the end but without the forgiveness crap. As for ending I'd say it could end more or less the same though with both worlds being united to be saved.
Now then with all that said while Namco originally said they will not be doing story dlc they just had a poll up for the EU where one of the questions asked if players wanted story dlc for Arise...so there's a chance they may announce they've changed their mind and will make one, hopefully a post story dlc focused on what was happening in the world post the final boss. One story line i can see occurring is one that is focused on dealing with remnants of Renan forces that still want to subjugate Dahnans due to their lives being more convenient that way and could even throw in an antagonistic Dahnan force focused on attacking Renans in retaliation to what was done to them for 300 years. Of course with such a dlc i would rather have it be on par with Graces F's Lineage and Legacies After Story (was about 20 to 30 hours long with side quests) rather than Zestiria's Alisha dlc (about 5 hours or so long and mainly focused on Rose and some of the Seraphs recounting the game's ending events to Alisha...was universally banned and more or less an example of bad story dlc)...if it's on the Graces F After Story quality i would happily drop another 20 bucks or so for it....if Alisha quality it'd only be worth about 3 to 4 bucks imo.
@@nicogalax Ya, same with the lab in Lenegis as well for both him, the Crown Contest's origins, etc that were all major story points imo that should've been made mandatory to watch/have a cutscene attached...many complaints i see about the game's story comes from people complaining about stuff that was covered in those computer monitors or some other optional npc dialogue/books/etc throughout the game. In this regard i will say Namco fucked up by not making them tied to the main story itself and required reading.

Man would be nice if they also broke the mold with tales ending department where post game isn't saved before final boss fight but actually after the fight, and you have a little in game epilogue and whole near feature where you get your own hut in your ranch and can use materials to upgrade, decorate it with furniture etc. And you unlock wedding attire for Alphen and Shionne. :p
And if you rest in your home with party members you get additional skits between your party members about how they are doing with their life after the whole ordeal.

To have a game where the ending was so emotional and that song plays. Holy shit i just didn’t want the game to end. But we got this beautiful happy ending. This game made me fall back in love with JRPG’s and the stories that they tell us. The only thing that’s is upsetting is that this story has ended. I loved all the characters and how they developed. I will treasure these feelings the game gave me and how each one of these actors and actresses preformed. Thank you for this experience.
That was exactly how I felt. Like in Tales of Berseria and Zestiria, I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters. They become real through the connection they have to your heart because it felt like they were written by fellow human beings who knows what it's like to struggle for anything in life. From little to extremes.

I just finish this game. OMG the first thing alphen did when Shionne thorns went away was a kiss 💕. Then they get married afterwards 🤧 That just sealed it for me. It almost brought a tear in this grown man. In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful, happy ending in a JRPG in a long time!
everyone had a great performance in this game, but Ray Chase as Alphen, his performance? beyond great, he emotes emocion so well, the anguish, sadness, relief, pain, every emotion that the character feels in the story is emoted so well through his voice, amazing performance
that ending? I'm so happy that they showed the protagonists kissing and it wasn't an accident or off-screen, it was the reward for persisting to play the game, fighting to save shionne and the world, you get to see alphen and shionne getting their happy ending (with it being implied that rinwell and law and kisara and dohalim end up together as well), not only do they kiss, but also marry at the end of the first credits sequence, this game left me very fulfilled especially since the relationship of alphen and shionne really takes time to grow and it doesn't grow out of nowhere, you get to see alphen and shionne care for each other, saving each other, being there when things get tough, enduring pain for one another and also get to know ahead of time (before the ending) that they do know that they love each other from combat quotes and their scene in daeq faezol, we also get to know why shionne doesn't reciprocate at the beginning of act 2 (after you defeat vholran for the first time) she loves alphen at that point but she thinks she has to die to save the world and because of that she doesn't want to fall in love, even though she already did
Now I also have my gripes with the ending, it's not perfect, it was established that there's a bit of dhana's will on everybody, but that's not my issue with the ending, the renas alma was the only thing that could seal the thorns for good, after it being destroyed the only way to defeat the thorns was to kinda cancel it out with light? Makes sence, but at the same time it doesn't sit right with me, feels very deus ex machina, I would've preffered if Alphen would just put Vholran to rest, he had no redeeming traits and just because he was a victim of becoming a sovereign he gets to have a chance of redemption? Then again it was pretty poetic that to defeat the evil force you have to lend power from everybody you met and saved, those people, dhanans, are lending their power to save a renan, which also shows that the dhanans are willing to forgive the renans from what they've done
All in all, despite my issues with the ending it's still beautiful to see and one of the best tales games, liked the gameplay, the battle system was amazing and story (even though the elemental spirits are to be interpreted as part of the story when most of them are actually part of side quests, post game level sidequests at that, once you kill them you should have no issues defeating the final boss, I haven't done them, but I hope they also explain what they are in this universe, are the summon spirits? are they guardians? don't answear, I want to find out by myself, but still, I can't help but wonder)
I could talk endlesly about this game, one last example is that it's really amazing that rinwell stops law from killing zephyr, but doesn't stop her from killing ganabelt, the person that killed law's father, but law stops rinwell from killing almeidrea, the person that killed her parents, they know how they feel or how they would feel in their respective situations, they're mirrors of one another, rinwell pretends to be a grown up even though she's just a child like law and law embraces his childlike self
I think there may be a sequel? Vholran's speech felt like it was foreshadowing something. I just found it weird how he talked crap to Alphen taking the "selfish" path that would lead to corruption and betrayal, even though he's fighting to save everyone (and completely succeeds) while Vholran is fighting just to rule ambiguously evil. Sure Alphen is putting everything at risk to save Shionne, but still!
If there is a sequel, maybe it'll be about the complications of merging Renan and Dhanan societies and Vholran is doing something evil in "the darkness." I can totally imagine an older Alphen (but I may just be thinking of Arthur from Beseria cause of the similar outfits and Ray Chase voicing both of them). And the protagonist could be his kid.

A sequel could be possible yes, but the way the credits showed their lives, alphen hunting, shionne awaiting his return, dohalim presumably the leader of the renans and possibly an archeologist too, although that role could be filled by rinwell since she also showed an interest in that, kisara probably leading the people of menancia and law does... something
Everyone has a goal and life looks pretty good for them, if it's a sequel like destiny 2, where a new threat arises (hehe) after years of peace and the next generation of heroes, alphen's son like you were saying, has to defeat it with some help from the previous generation, I could see that, especially since the last 4 tales games have been a new concept and a continuation of that concept (xillia 1 and 2, zestiria and berseria), so maybe that could happen if the pattern continues

As long as it's like Graces F quality I'd be all in for story dlc as i liked Arise a lot (my goty and currently in contention with Symphonia for the past 2 months for my favorite Tales game, and since Symphonia holds it as well my favorite game of all time). Definitely would lie to see how the world looks post unification (if it's dlc and not a full on sequel i don't expect to see every inch of it but if we could get 2 to 3 cities and at least 8 fields and 5 dungeons i'd be happy). I don't really see a full blown sequel unless the game sells a fair bit more (another mil or 2) and has a lot of demand for one (the whole post world unification can easily create tons of potential for a sequel after all: 1st you could have Renans still trying to suppress Dahnan but without the Great Spirit/Heganquill controlling them as likely they'd want to keep power, 2nd you could have a Dahnan organization like the Black Wings formed focused on purging Renans so the main goal is to stop this, 3rd you could have a Dahnan and Renan kingdom at war with one another years/centuries after the ending of Arise on the new world, 4th some new Astral Spirit was formed or some other monstrous byproduct when the worlds united which could start to cause issues with the world, and so on...granted all Tales games easily have dozens of different stories that could be made after their ending but these 4 come to mind in particular for Arise's themes/story beats.
they didn't need to defeat the thorns anymore because it was a defense mechanism from the great spirit not wanting to die. Since they joined both worlds and giving the great spirit a chance to live on it no longer needed the throwns. So yeah that part does make sense and is elaborated on earlier.
The end of Zestiria and Berseria left me feeling nothing but emptiness, but this? Finally... a much needed and refreshing conclusion.

I mean, Berseria was misery from beginning to end, with a few hints of hope here and there. The ends we got there was perfect for the story, I loved it. What made me the saddest was having Eizen slowly turn into my favorite character, despite having played Zestiria before and knowing his ultimate fate.

In a way it was exactly what she wanted, but in a very twisted manner, ironic even, considering how co-dependent she and Laphicet were (she on a more emotional level, he on a more physical one. Can’t really say he was as dependent as she was emotionally because of all the secrets he kept from her and all). It took me by surprise but it made sense, at least in my opinion. I was satisfied with it.
@@nirdram8549 true, Berseria ending made a lot of sense, but it was bittersweet, I teared up for the fates of the siblings. Made me feel like, "Velvet, you finally got your wish to be with your brother and at the same time, saving the world was a bonus."
Arise made me tear up too, but tears of joy. Thay made me feel like, "Man, Alphen we fought for this! We fought so you and Shionne and everyone else can get the happiness you all deserve, for the new future of Dahna and Rena!"
Both great games which draws two entirely different emotions for me.

@@J4ckKun Yeah, there were numerous ships in the series that got happy endings, this one just got more screen time. My personal favorite is Yuri and Estellise from Tales of Vesperia. It's understated and wholesome and provokes the imagery of Estelle sitting on the throne as Empress, shining like a beacon of purity while a black wolf watching over her from the shadows, ready to rip out the throat of any who would dare come to harm her.
I am very satisfied with the ending, I didn't fight my way through just to see all my efforts go to waste. I am so glad it's a happy ending.
Also, what conquered racism is love and forgiveness.

It's obvious that was what they were hinting at and I hate games that don't just put characters in a couple statues when you obviously know they like each other. Tale of Arise ending was PERFECT where they got married.
It's been so long since I seen such a beautiful ending in a video game, definitely makes you forget about all the bad stuff.
And so they save both worlds and brought together in peace, her curse is broken and finally the two of them and their friends live happily ever after, now that's a good story to remember off.

My first Tales game I ever played and beat. I thought the final dungeon would never end but I absolutely love this game and would recommend it to anyone. What a beautiful ending too
I finished this game a few days ago. When I finished it I literally bawled. I was sad that my journey with these characters came to an end and that they were able to finally get peace with no one being sacrificed. That kiss when her thorns were finally gone, Alphen and Shionnes wedding at the very end completely sealed the deal for me. The game definitely had it's issues, but the ending made it all worth it in the end for me. So happy we got a happy ending and 3 pairings. This is a first in the Tales series. Definitely one of my favorite Tales games. Still over here sad that I finished the game 😭.
I just finished it a few hours ago and when they kissed I was screaming HELL YES and was so happy, haha. I wanted a happy ending for these two soooo bad and I got it! The story in the second half had its problems but the ending was fsntastic! ^.^

I just beat it last night. This game made me love games again that feeling of going on an adventure and amazing storyline. I will keep this game in my heart forever. Love when a game is completed and made to perfection.
After i beaten the game and watched this animation i cried like a new born baby, i waited for that kiss throughout the entire game and the wedding cought me by suprise, i am bit sad now that the story has ended, i finished everything there is to, sub quests, owl collection, secret bosses, purchased the best equipment, nothing left to do but roam around...lets hope there will be Tales of Arise 2

It's like the Tales of Abyss and Xenogears ending. They came back alive. Nice to have a happy ending after Berseria and Xillia 2's ending.

This is why Berseria where Velvet saves her brother is fantastic
And why Arise is fantastic because Alphen/Iron Mask gave his best to save everyone, even the ones closest to him to not live his life as a slave.

IN YOUR FACE STAR VS THE FORCES OF EVIL. THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE ROMANCE BETWEEN THE TWO PROTAGONISTS.
To people who do not understand why Dahna's Will formed: If you recall it does have the potential to exist, but since the energy is scattered it doesn't have an ego. Alphen and the crew travelled all around Dahna and left an imprint of themselves on people, therefore it made Dahna recognise them (which happened long before the ending). Rinwell constantly said the energy has a "voice" throughout the game, especially after she was engulfed by the "White light" of Dahna. And remember the Fire Spirit monster way back in the fight with the first Lord? That was just part of the Astrtal energy that formed a sort of will.
So it was not really a "Deus ex Machina", since it's logically based on what happened before.
And it's still a story about slavery from the start to finish: Dahnians to Renans, Renans to the Helganquil (being mere test subjects), the Helganquil to Rena's Will, and Rena to it's own fear.
But anyway I kinda teared up when Shionne, who spent her life alone, feared and experimented on, told Alphen "I'm with you", showing how much she trusts him. Also during that kiss scene. And the idyllic home life scenes :)

alphen was a great protag. He wasn't completely goofy or dumb, neither was he a sulking serious all the time kind of guy. They struck a great balance with him

After the last four Tales of games, I really needed this ending. I think Berseria's bitter-sweet end was well done, but it was stacked on top of other ending's that weren't very fulfilling to me. Arise's ending on the other hand, was just the ending that kept on giving. It's like: hey here, have a legit kiss scene, and this sweet moment of Rinwell getting to hug Shionne, oh you thought we were done? Lol no, have these pictures of the characters future lives, and guess what? Alphen and Shionne also got married. It sure made me feel bad for ever being skeptical of how Arise was going to end. So many games have either generally sad endings, or bitter-sweet ones, since it seems to be the trend, that I almost always expect it. Getting something purely happy was more of a shock than anything. This ending was just very satisfying and felt earned after everything the characters went through.
This! When Rinwell touched Shionnes hand and then hugged her I started completely bawling. This was the wholesome ending I needed more than I realized.

With our world in its state right now and all the toxicity I'm really glad they did a good ending. Feels like writters these days think that having a bittersweet or bad ending makes a good story and I'm just sick of it

It was really, really sad. Berseria ending got me like, we fought for Velvet's vengeance and her desire to be with her brother. I actually thought Velvet can finally let go and move on, but no. She chose it and I, as a player helped her get the ending she always wanted.
As for Arise, I fought for Alphen and the people of Dahna so the happy ending made me happy and got me teary eyed, because Alphen and Shionne stood their ground against their fate and even had the planet conspire to give them that happy ending through the power of their will and the people's will whom they liberated from 3 centuries of oppression. Both games are great, both games draw out two entirely different emotions from me.

Has anyone else noticed the the great spirit is similar to Lambda from tales of graces. Both of there plans involve draining planets of their energy. They can both control others. Their dungeons are both at the center of a planet.
game was definitely rich in story...battle radiance and never ending cycle of battling graphics...i never failed to expect so much in a tales game series...but tales of arise has done it 200%...

If there was ever a tales of arise 2, I wouldn’t mind if it took place well in the future, and the main protagonist could be Alphen and Shionne’s Child. Their name would be have to be (Something) Zephyr Imeris Daymore. Law and Rinwell’s kid would have to be a party member. Idk if Kisara and Dohalim would have gotten together but their descendants would also be badass and in the party too. And maybe the antagonists could be maybe some kind of invasion of a new species from another planet, or the return of more helganquil or something. I’m sorry I’m fanfic-ing I love this game so freaking much.

My first Tales of game and it didn't disappoint in the slightest
After like 3 games in a row (4 if you count Rays arc 1), we finally get a game without a freaking sacrifice ending.
I was so glad we finally moved on from this, i was really getting sick of it.
I am so happy for them even though their actual story has ended off-screen their love story and lives still continue. People don't be sad that their story has ended instead be happy that you are able to witness and enjoy it also don't worry their life story still continues off-screen so be happy about it.

love this game/ journey so much. Combat is amazing. Feels like Im playing with friends in co-op. The characters are all well-crafted and have different mechanics. The details in the dialogue have been well done, and the dialogue is seamless between combat, skit scenes and travelling around. even the scene at the beginning of this when Shionne goes to touch Alphen and realizes she can't do that is a reflection of the detail. The end fight was so tense, I had no idea what was going to happen. This game and the characters will always have a place in my heart.
I agree, this game made me fall back inlove with jrpgs again. Like you, you’re group felt so alive when traveling with them. Their skits, cutscenes and just combat with them saying encouraging things or witty remarks. The character development was god tier in this game. Only wish we could get more story with them.

I have completed this game just recently. Holy shit I love it, and this ending was super satisfying and gave me the biggest smile on my face.
I think Arise has just dethroned Berseria as my favorite Tales game.
This one is a very close tie with Vesperia for my favourite Tales game. It certainly has the best ending for me, especially after considering how bittersweet Berseria’s ending was.

Alphen feels almost like an audience surrogate for those who played the last few games and grew tired of the bittersweet endings.
The end of this game was like some novel game, sooo much dialogue to go through lmao swear to god there was like almost an hour worth in few areas.

My first Tales of game series. and it was a blast playing it. Over 100 hours worth. So much to do in the game. I actually came across this thanks to Granblue fantasy relink trailers. Both games looked similar in the fighting style. So i thought why not give it a shot before waiting for Granblue fantasy relink that comes 2022. I didn't regret a thing :)

An actual happy ending for once. Ever since Xillia, all tales endings are bittersweet. I was expecting either Alphen or Shionne to sacrifice themselves given the history of the past tales games.
...where is the English cast listed? I don't think I saw any trace of it in the credits.
