@@Donetur Yeah, it really is. I use my Prophet 5 daily for television scoring and I can absolutely attest that this is 100% accurate. In a mix nobody would be able to hear the difference, and frankly even on its own unless you were sitting in front of monitors with an A/B with the real thing hooked an oscilloscope, by ear it I'd say it's pretty much the same. Run this through some amps and racks to warm it up and you've got yourself a P5. Yes the knobs and interface are part of it, but still, it doesn't change the fact that under the hood of this thing, you've got yourself the bonafide Prophet sounds. Hats off to the Softube team. They nailed it. I love my Prophet 5 and it isn't going anywhere, ever; but if you don't have one or the dough to drop on the hardware, this plug-in gives up nothing sonically and will serve you well. -Cory
@@skycron i want to get a Prophet 10 soon. This is the only reason why I wouldn’t get this software. But I am looking for the rest I won’t get in hardware, because it seems they did a great job with the rest of the models they sell. I am just discovering their products. For example the Juno 106 they created sounds good and for that price it is clearly a nice addition to my studio :)
@@Donetur Very true. I was going to suggest the expansion board for the Prophet 5 to expand to 10 voices, but you have a point because the cost of the expansion board actually brings the total cost to about the same as if you just bought a P10 to begin with. Not that it's all that hard of an install, but I see your logic. Why open up your unit if you can have the extra voices already in it for the same price and you don't already have a Prophet 5? I wouldn't either.
I think finally I'm 100*% convinced by a sequential plug in. The real test is just open filter no mod attack chords - and it sounds totally convincing.
Softube are so great with their plugins and this sounds absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for the demo, it convinced me to buy it after I got sent an offer from Softube. Picked this up for £50. Bargain!
I love hearing you play 👋 Can you do as short video of your best arpeggio / licks / runs /sweeps? As with learning anything new, I always start at 30bpm and work my way up. 👍🙏 Your channel deserves so much more attention
Thank you! Great demo! I have it and I love it. One more thing. The Promenade patch was inspired by Pictures at an Exibition from Isao Tomita (1975). Great record.
I have Repro, which is wonderful, but this definitely does the Prophet “squelch” more convincingly in my opinion. Repro is generally “softer” than the hardware. I don’t know that I *need* this though. I’d love to see Softube do something less covered like a Polivoks :)
My impression is that it's absolutely great for loading sounds and using them in a mix. For real time control, the filter feels a bit steppy, and creating a patch is not as enjoyable or as quick as using the hardware. But that said, if the sound is the only goal, it's pretty much 95% there! Sounds very good.
The same could be said for any softsynth, really. A dedicated Prophet-style MIDI controller (there's a few on the market) would definitely alleviate that gripe. With most "standard" MIDI controllers you're going to be limited to 128 steps resolution on a CC knob - not an issue though if cutoff is being controlled by envelopes/LFO etc - it's perfectly smooth.
I have the Softube emulations of the Moog and Juno. They are both fantastic so I’ll have to check this out too. Kinda wish it had some basic effects included but I guess that wouldn’t be true to the original!
Definitely check it out mate! I kinda dig the streamlined design without effects. Most of the time they're pretty overcooked and I find companies tend to rely on them instead of the raw quality of the synth. This sounds great without effects and I tend to have my "go to" effects anyway - which are higher quality than what's usually baked into a plugin.
The Model 84 was really good, and the best Juno emulation yet. On it's own, a fantastic sounding synth. But compared to an actual Juno, it didn't sound _quite_ as powerful as the real thing. Didn't have quite the same low-end extension, or dynamic quick attack. But, with the Model 80, they really zero'd in on the Prophet sound. It sounds amazing. Along with UAD's Minimoog, and the G-Force Oberheim's, this ranks up there with the best yet. I don't like their new Model 77 as much as I like this. But then, I do just love the sound of Prophets. I'd really like them to take on the Arp 2600, or better yet 2500. The G-Force and Korg don't do it for me. Would be great if they did the Jupiter 8 too, if they could do it as well as the Prophet.
Great - really looking forward to watching this on "the big speakers" later 👍👍 I probably won't got for this, u-he Repro covers my Prophet 5 itches nicely... But in the hands of Mike Pensini, it will sound lush, and I will inevitably end up reconsidering! 😊
Yes, definitely have a listen through big speakers or monitors! I think it's sonically somewhat different to Repro. Both great but different takes on the Prophet-5. Check it out and see what you think, it has a lovely "vintage" quality to it.
@@MikePensini Feels like this might have a mite more 'sheen' on the lows and the tops. Playing the filter is amazing on this too.. But - Repro will always have my ❤, cause it was the first VST since TAL U-No LX and Bassline-101 that properly took me aback for its sound. I've since snagged Diva, but Repro tho.... And the fact that it's a Pro-One and a Prophet V emu in one then... From mono sequences to chords, with beautiful-sounding effects... As ever, I'm enthralled by your chops! So cool! I maybe approach 50% of your ability, on a bass guitar. On keys, all these wonderful synths.... I wish my (frankly scary) Piano teacher didn't Goddamn tho, this plug sounds amazing... The sync sounds!
Yeah man, the Console 1! I'm digging it! It's early days yet, but it's a game changer for dealing w softube channel strips/plugins and streamlining mixing!
That’s what I don’t get with Roland….they release a recreation of their classic synths like Juno 106 ..then go and ruin authenticity by adding so much effect type functions…it defeats the purpose …with “Softube” you get exactly what it says on the tin Softube Model 84 and 80 are by far the closest thing to the original as your gonna get…just look at the GUI it’s so clean and realistic ."..brilliant
Sounds awesome, no doubt. But I don‘t like the unnecessarily changed UI layout, particularly the vertical mixer section. Cherry Audio does a better job in so far; the Mercury-6, e.g., is also a feast for the eyes.
Hope you enjoyed this Softube Model 80 video! Hit me up with any questions/comments below!
Yes, I actually enjoyed this demo. So much that I am considering buying, even though I have Repro 5
What kind of physical keyboard is compatible with this software?
I own a Prophet 5 and am an official Sequential Artist. I have to be honest, this plugin is EXTREMELY accurate. -Cory
Amazing for a plug-in isn’t it?. I am impressed as well.

do you add some eq or effects ?
No EQ - just a little reverb when indicated

They’re both different flavours for sure! Yes, look forward to seeing what Softube develop next!
Keep in mind Repro has different filter models in the Tweaks section. One of the others might be more to your liking.
I don’t know what it is but Softube plugins make my computer literally feel like it was transformed into a hardware synth.
They’re very organic aren’t they?!
