@FittinginHomemaking oh thought of something else new. We eat a lot of onions. I would put 1/2 leftover onion in a baggie every time. At Christmas, I came across a plastic onion saver. I put that in my husband's stocking lol. I love that thing. I use over and over and no more baggies wasted.
@@BluVelvt I almost got an avocado saver that sounds similar. I had a gift card to the store where they were selling them. I didn't know if I would use such a specific thing, and yet each week, I put half an avocado in Tupperware and in the fridge. LOL.
I've started being more conscious of single use items in the past year. After watching you tube videos on various subjects I have gotten so many ideas on changing different things in my home. As far as single use I have really cut down on paper towels ( I use my dish towels more), I've just started washing my ziploc bags, I use fabric bowl covers instead of aluminum foil or saran wrap. I have a silicone baking mat too
@@BluVelvt I love the beeswax wraps instead of Saran Wrap. I feel so challenged whenever I try to rip off a piece from the roll that I’ve just stopped using it. Are the fabric covers you’re using the kind with the elastic around the edge?
I do not want to buy any of these 😃 Used to have a baking mat but was glad to toss her when she had a big hole, because cleaning her was just a pain. Do you have any good tips on cleaning silicone, except for the dishwasher? I have a big pet peeve with the stickiness it inevitably gets after a while. Oh, and I use straws so seldom, I take a big pasta instead (and let my dog chew it when I’m done) 😅
@@keelienne the baking mats I usually hand wash since they’re so floppy. Just normal dish soap works fine for me! I don’t think they’ve ever felt sticky for me, so I don’t have any good tips for resolving that. If it’s hard to get grease off, I do sprinkle a little baking soda on it to help scour it a little and the grease comes off well that way. A lot of these are extras! You definitely don’t need to have muffin cups or baking mats. You can just grease your pans and that’s the most sustainable option, but these offer the convenience of the disposable options I was using.
@@keelienne And it finally clicked what you meant when you said you take a big pasta instead of using a straw. Lol. I love that! It’s so creative and sustainable, and I’m sure your pup loves it! I don’t have pasta that big. What type of pasta do you use?! I’m so curious now.
@@FittinginHomemaking I don't remember how they are really called, to us they are "the long makkaroni". I read an article about hacks with pasta, that's where I got that from. Also I only use a spaghetti now if I have to light many candles, or those in deeper glasses.. and my pup absolutely loves it 🙂
What are some of your favorite [reusable] things that make life easier since switching from single-use items?
