In non muslim countries, there are very little work opportunities where there is no free mixing. So it's obviously better for a woman to not go out for work if the husband is a good Muslim man who is able to provide for the household. But my question is, how can we be sure before marriage that the man would be a good husband? I would definitely want to rely on my husband and be dependent on him but the reality in many non muslim countries is that it is very difficult to get a husband who is worth relying. If the woman is not financially independent, she would become helpless if the husband turns out to be abusive or a cheater or of bad character. So many women are tied up in marriages from which they could have asked for khula for Islamically valid reasons but they cannot do so and are stuck suffering in the marriage because they do not have the financial means to take care of herself or the children. Ofc once the woman is secure that the husband is a good man and they are in a understanding marriage, she can definitely leave the job. But initially, it's a risky situation to be fully dependent on the husband. May Allah help us find Shariah Compliant jobs and also bless us with good husband.

Her father in law (who is very religous muslim) asked her to resign from the job and ordered his son to provide for her needs. He believes women shouldn't work and if a women is being independent or working lady. She will not obey her husband.

In Islam, there is no concept of women working outside of their home neglecting their obligated responsibilities, unless it's the worst-case scenario. It is merely a concept taken from modern Western societies which have nothing to do with Islam and are totally against the Quran and Sunnah. As the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, Aisha narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Whoever innovates something in the matter of Islam that is not part of it, it will be rejected." Reference:- Sunan Ibn Majah 14 Furthermore, nowhere in the Quran or even Hadith is it explicitly stated that a wife is obligated to work or must work. Instead, there are other responsibilities upon them as wives that they are obligated to fulfill. If they do not fulfill their responsibilities or disobey their husband, then in Quran 4:34, Allah SWT has given men the right to even beat them for that. Additionally, it is only permissible (Halal) for women to work outside if their husband gives them permission and relinquishes his rights. Otherwise, if their husband prevents them from going outside and working, then they are obligated to obey their husband because going outside and working is nothing obligatory for them, whereas being obedient to the husband and taking care of the home is their obligation. As in Quran 33:36, Allah SWT says: "And it is not [permissible] for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affairs.
