@@xtlm I thought driving on the inside of the previous corner, Newgarden style, was the more common occurrence. You sacrifice the racing line, but if you get ahead you have the better exit line out of the last corner.
Coming from F1, Long Beach was the first indy race I ever attended and Alabama was the first I ever watched on tv. Fully converted to the series now, and I know that you are headed for a win and more. Godspeed Romain!
@@jeeveso you’re so right I used to hate oval racing but I’ve come to appreciate it so much. Love the race at Gateway. And of course the 500 really is the greatest race on the planet.
@@diegobert4033 same!! Used to just think urgh 4 right turns but actually watching it is so interesting and exciting! Especially when there are multiple lanes
To how boring F1 become since 2012 last most competitive season, too bad it took me long to switch to Indy, there really is a stereotype of oval racing but, it really is good.
You stopped for a photo in the paddock before the race and made the day for my friend and me, then treated everyone to a great show with this remarkable drive. Keep fighting, Romain, you’ll get atop the podium again soon!
I was at Barber all weekend, 2 race tickets, 2 qualifing tickets, 2 Friday practice tickets, 2 garage passes and parking passes all for under $300. Can't beat that.
Having done 1,000's of laps here, that outside move was super impressive and shows your brainpower. Most like to maintain that inside line as the little bit of camber at 15/16 (15 to me...16 to you) gives a ton of grip but with your downforce the outside worked. Glad to see you moving towards the front in Indy. Keep it up!
Romaine, you are such a great drive! you had bad luck with traffic in the qualifying for the Indy GP road Race! why don't you just get pissed off, get even by winning the INDY 500?!!!!! You are drinving so well, and your have a good car! Show them what you can do, Brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not convinced you used up your ptp. Every time I see the board, you are among the drivers with the most left near the end of the race. Then suddenly you have 0.
Can you explain what happened to your push-to-pass at the end? You're always so conservative with it, preferring to outdrive the others, and I've never seen you use it all in a race.
Keep making these behind-the-scene videos. Can’t get enough. Oh, and I stood up and joyously yelled at my TV seeing you make that pass. Absolutely beautiful.
when is definitely coming. don't get discouraged with second or third place though keep getting them top five finishes and you'll be a championship contender no doubt. ☮️❤️🎵🤗🌍🏁
To be fair....all those other 2 stoppers were stuck behind Newgarden for many laps leading his own Trulli train. If Power wasn't stuck in that train for as long as he was he probably would have won the race
In Indy, you can stop as many times as needed. The only rule is that you must use both tire compounds ( soft + hard ) at least once during the race. A 2 stop will guarantee enough fuel to finish the race. A 3 stop could be more of a gamble as you could have fresher tires than those on a 2 stop
What he said ^^^ and the idea of a two stop is to get out so far ahead a three stop won’t be able to catch you but it’s a gamble because a two stop has to conserve fuel more while a three stop doesn’t need to conserve at all. That’s why that caution hurt the two stoppers and ultimately gave McLaughlin the advantage. Roman didn’t have the fuel to push hard at the end while McLaughlin did.
The 3 stop plays into a more volatile start and gamble for minimal yellows to be on the fastest tires at the last segment of the race to catch the fuel and tire and saving 2-stop racers. This race had 1 yellow. Penseke was 1 and 3. Romain almost made the 2 stop work because he was leading and driving well, but of course his tires were shot by the final stages, whereas McLaughlin had fresher rubber and more fuel, so he could push more.
There is no "have to" about it. Pit strategies are made by the team and they aren't required to do anything besides change tire compounds at least once.
Man I feel like you've lost out on pitroad or with the stratagy a couple of your p2s maybe I don't know enough about what's going on behind the scenes but youve done everything right more than once but all aspects have to come together in indycar....that drive at barber was next level beating the first one on your stratagy by 20 seconds or whatever it was that's insane
Great driving man! The yellow just played into the hands of the 3-stoppers, you were the best driver all day, and put on a good show for those of us who were there. I recently finished your autobiography (which I got signed from you at Nashville!), and was there Sunday in Barber. You've made me a big fan!
I can't say I'm a fan of your livery chaging race after race (can't even think of buying the model since your switch to Andretti because nothing really scream "that's Grosjean's car !!!"), but at least the show is there whatever the color XD Keep going, the first win is close, we can all smell it.
In US racing, the number is more important than the livery. Romain will be in the #28 for a long while. and DHL will be his primary sponsor for the majority of the season.
Loved the move. That was awesome! Didn’t love you blowing the breaking into turn (1 or 2) that let Scott by. It may have not mattered anyway since you were on fuel saving and out of P2P. He probably would have got by anyway. You need to stop this BS fuel saving strategy. It doesn’t work!
That was honestly one of the best overtakes I’ve ever seen. Small contact, but that’s racing!
Christian Lundgard did nearly the exact same move earlier in the race but without contact if I remember correctly.
If it was F1 one of the drivers would have tried to push the other off track and they would have complained the rest of the race about the contact.
@@ninetailedfox579121 Cars would have disintegrated and FIA banned the drivers for having the gall to pass without DRS.
That move happens at that corner more then you would think actually lol, it's a sweet corner!
But yeah, Gro did it well!

Awesome move!
Fantastic racing!! Thanks. You're going to win this year!!
It was a great race. Amazing overtakes.
We were cheering you on from turn 12, great race Romaine just bad luck with the timing of that yellow. Keep driving hard brother
It was great to have you in Alabama, Romain! I hope you enjoyed your time! I grew up about 15 mins. from Barber.

So close... you're going to get one this year I am confident of that

great podium romain i hope you will win
Brilliant drive, you just got unlucky. that win is coming soon though, and I can't wait to see it!

Remarkable performance, especially since you ended up on the more difficult strategy!
Bien joué Bigjohn 🎉❤❤❤
I love your videos with backstage before the race.

Hi Romain. Any chance to see you at 24h le Mans? Cheers!
Good.
Not even a romain fan but you can tell he will win a race this yr.
Where did all the P2P go though?
Hey man, if you keep getting second places all year, you’ll run away with the championship.

Hope this continues with my man Scott, this sort of racing is brilliant between you two, great drive Romain.
Awesome race, fantastic battles on track
Loved that overtake. I definitely wasn’t expecting it
You look like you’re having fun in Indycar - good on ya!
Bien joué Romain pour ce beau dépassement et merci pour l'analyse !
Great drive and great race being 20/30 secs ahead of the next 2 stoppers and holding off Power, onto the month of May!

Romain, you need to explain the difference between a 2 or 3 pit strategy.
Do they have to stop 3 times?
Were you only allowed to stop twice?
In Indy, you can stop as many times as needed. The only rule is that you must use both tire compounds ( soft + hard ) at least once during the race. A 2 stop will guarantee enough fuel to finish the race. A 3 stop could be more of a gamble as you could have fresher tires than those on a 2 stop

Really felt like you should of tried to stay out 1 or 2 more laps before that last stop. Were you almost out of fuel?
So what happened with the disappearing push to pass??
Mega job! Keep pushing!!
