Little bear mentioned her backpack itching and you mentioned the smell. You are probably getting a salt build up on your packs backs and straps. This will make your skin feel like needles are sticking into it.
I believe vinegar will neutralize the salt build up. Also 20 mile team borax soap will reduce the sour smell.

That is going to be the big character builder for me. I know how miserable I can feel When I am at Disney and it starts stormy and I am walking around in wet clothes and wet shoes. All I can think about is how soon I can get try to go hiking in the woods in the rain to build up my tolerance to being wet and squishy 😊Happy Hiking 💗🥾🏕️🌲🌳

Hi Mama Bear! This is Tin Man from the class of 2017. I messaged you on Instagram as well. I wasn't sure where you'd be more likely to get the message. My wife and I would like to extend some trail magic to you and your daughter. We live about a half an hour from the trail in the town of New Market Virginia. We could pick you up at Hawthorne Gap near Luray, and get you resupply and if you would like... you could come to our home for the evening for dinner, laundry, showers, and a good night's sleep, and we could get you back to the trail in the morning.
You would have a floor of the house to yourselves for privacy.
We won't be available June 10-19, but if you near here before our after that and are interested... let us know. Happy trails!!

Good morning Bears! Well it was a wet, hot, and sweaty day for you two! I could feel the discomfort from here at my table eating peanut butter on toast, coffee, and my large glass of water with a shot of unfiltered apple cider 🤣. The summation of your vlog was honest and beautiful. You both stated the facts of the hard work of the day but, you both were positive about it all…Bravo 👍👏. Ok, let’s talk about hitch hiking. Here are my two tries at in my younger years. A blustery, cold, and snowy winter night. My friend Tommy and I were walking home after grammar school CYO basketball practice. Tommy says, let’s hitch hike home. I was shocked but, I went along with it. What could happen, right. A car pulls over and a man says where are you heading? We tell him and he says hop in I’m going that way. Of course, Tommy, jumps in the back seat and I get to sit up front with the man. As I get in , I put my feet down on top of a shotgun! Now Ive never seen a real gun before, just bebe guns that we played with in the woods etc. I look over at the man very quickly and I notice he has a large knife sheath on the side of his belt. My spidey senses are starting to go off if you know what I mean. As we are coming to a major intersection I notice that he’s unclipping the knife out of its sheath. We have a red light and now the knife is coming out and then I panicked and said to the man, we will get out right here. Tommy yells, wait we are aren’t home yet! I say, yes we are ! I told the man thank you and open the door very quickly. Tommy is arguing with me but I yelled get out now. He gets out and then we quickly walk the opposite way home from there and then I tell him what I saw. He was happy of my decision. Whew. Years later I’m working at the mall which is about 5 miles from my parents house. Yes it’s winter time up North and there’s about 2 inches on the ground and it’s snowing very heavily. I get about a mile from the mall and my car breaks down. Hmmmm no cell phones back then so I either walk home in this snow storm or hitchhike? Yes my mind went back to that terrible incident with Tommy and me but, I’m 17 years old and I think I can handle anything weird that might happen. I probably walked another mile and there were very few cars on the road. I almost give up and just resigned myself that to walk the next 4 miles but then a truck pulls over with two men are in it. They ask me where are you going to, I tell them the East side of my city. Oh we are going that way, get in. We have some small talk and because of the snowy conditions they were going about 30 mph instead of the speed limit of 55 which was prudent based on the road conditions. We were about halfway to my destination and the man in the middle reaches up to dash and takes down this long knife that is in this beautiful sheath. My brain immediately went back to my first hitch hiking experience. My spidey senses are way up and I immediately put my hand on the door handle and I’m ready to open that door if things get worse. Jumping out is the last option in my mind and going about 30 mph with 3 inches of snow I figured I might get rough up a little etc but it might be my only way out. As we continue down the highway the man pulls out the knife and he’s just gliding his fingers across the blade and then starts to twirl it between his hands. Next he reaches up to the dash and there’s another knife. He tells me that he likes to collect knives. I try to remain calm and I try to convey how interesting it is that he has a hobby. We finally get to about half mile from my parents house and I tell them that I’m at my parents street which we really weren’t but who wants to have these two follow you right to home, right. We said our good byes and they left. As I was walking towards my parents home I thanked the Lord that he was watching over me. I believe these two bad experiences are some of the reasons why I’ve been involved in the martial arts, Taekwondo, and now Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I’ve always been a protector and I’m older now so if I have to defend myself, I’m confident that I can handle what might come my way. So you probably ask, would I hitchhike again. Probably not but if for some reason I have to, I’m ready to defend myself. Yes many people hitchhike etc and it works out for them but for me, no thank you! 😊👍. Oops. Good morning Bears! I got a little carried away there. Love and light to you both and us 🧸🐻🐱🌅🥾⛰️👍

Your rough day really shows through. Sometimes it do be that way, especially in humid mid-atlantic spring/summers. I can tell that LB kept the positive energy going. I remember a lot of moments during family, scout or school outings where things were getting obnoxious for the grownups and the kids found a way where things weren't so bad. I give you both a lot of credit for not making the vlog into a misleading highlight reel on days like this.
I also thought your evaluation of hitchhiking was thoughtful and came to a smart conclusion. Lots of people do it all the time without incident, but there is unfortunately some risk, especially traveling with a child. Better to stick within the community of people who have made an ongoing commitment to serve trail hikers, even if it costs a little more.
The sodas in the creek bring back memories. In my 20s some friends and I used to camp near Elizabeth Furnace, which I think you'll be passing somewhat close to, and we sometimes put our beer and soda in the creek to keep cool. And speaking of places you'll pass close to, along Route 55 near Front Royal, if you haven't passed that point already, there's an amazing local restaurant called the Apple House just maybe 5 miles from the trail. It has barbeque, burgers and other good old 'merican food and is a popular stop for outdoor recreators, bikers (the suburban weekend warrior type) and locals. Worth a shuttle or an uber to get there!

If you use that blue adapter between the sawyer (attached to cnoc) and then to your smart water bottle you can make it a gravity filter. Just do not over tighten the blue adapter to the bottle or you will be forced to squeeze because of the pressure.

So again...sorry I missed you as you went through my "back yard".

And yes I completely agreew with you on hitch hiking. I did accept a ride with some section hikers once that we had hiked around for about 2 weeks and they had a car parked to get back to their 1st car- they offered a ride and I felt comfortable with them. I don't know if that would be considered hitching though? Not really.

Afternoons like this are one of reasons I think I'm not cut out for this kind of work. All that rain and wetness, clothes, shoes and tent. Ugh. I wish for you many better days! Oh, and that mam story was weird.

Ladies when I was working in the warehouses, I drove down to Strutton VA one weekend, and had explored the AT area by car and took small hikes in the MD, PA area between Harper's Ferry VA now W.V. on up to Clark's Ferry PA north of Harrisburg. Pen Mar Park was created by Western Maryland Railroad now Railway. The Park was also a trolley Park. You will pass through Pen Mar Park on AT. Although no camping is allowed at Pen Mar if you seek to go go off trail as your NB turn right to the Park Road and walk up and back to the High Rock overlook. 2. As you get to PA 16 if your wanting a good cooked meal as you turn right there's a Diner up the Road. I forget if its cash only, however the food was good at the time. 2B. At PA 16 if you turn left WB towards Waynesboro PA you will come to Rouzersville where there's a Wal-Mart. 3. U.S. 30 @ at PA 233 you will see a house that appears to be the Office building for Thaddeous Stevens during the Civil War Confederates burned the Iron Works. PA DNCR redid the Blacks Smith Shop to be used as a trolley loop for trolley lines from Chambersburg and Gettysburg. Up PA 233 that will be to your right as you cross U.S. 233 as at the north left turn PA 233 will turn left and just west of there is where Babes in the Woods is where children were found in a story of their deaths that are explained in books and on RUclips. Where PA 233 turns left as AT crosses to right there's a Park Museum on your way to Pine Grove Furnace for the Ice Cream Challange.

Congratulations 🥳 on getting through a hard day❤Also, congratulations on 1/4 way to Maine!!! ❤ Ticks terrify me. We never use to have ticks here in Ontario Canada. It’s only been recent years that they have been getting bad. In fact, I saw a deer tick just hanging out on a TigerLily leaf in my garden as I was mowing the lawn today 😳 In that moment, I made the decision that I will be finding a gardener person to come and get rid of that entire “messy garden” area of my yard! If I could pave it over…I WOULD! Again, ticks terrify me to an almost ‘unhealthy’ level. (Not sure how to get over that fear 😳) ❤️

Well done Ladies ! You will be approaching the Roanoke/Daleville area in a few days. I just want to pass along a warning about crossing RT 220 in Daleville. It's a four lane road within sight of an I-81 exit with a lot of traffic. On the plus side, there's a Kroger and a trail store in the area. Looking forward to the rest of your journey...Old Timer

I have watched a lot of videos over the past four years of thru hikers on the AT. Your videos have become my favorite this year. I would not ever hitch hike with my children either. My youngest is now 24. MB, I love your attitude. “Suck it up buttercup!” Those words have often left my lips as well. LB, so proud of your positive attitude and cherishing the 15 minutes of sunshine. Congratulations on 1/4 done! You both are just rocking that trail. Blessings for a safe and successful journey.

One of the challenging things about the AT is that when the warm months arrive, they do bring some real humidity. And unlike out West, you can't climb out of the heat. You do get nice days where the humidity will dip down toward 50 percent, but (not gonna lie) you will have many days with something like 80 percent humidity or even more. It backs off a bit I think in New England, but this is just the summer climate in the East (as you guys know from Florida). Hang in there.

Congratulations on another milestone, 1/4 of the way. 🎉You're cruising.❤
Yes, don't take any unnecessary chances if you can help it. I have seen others hitching rides into town, and both times, it was older townspeople who gave them a ride. But one was a group and I think the others were Ben and Alice. But you just never know. Someone should come up with a service that would allow hikers to put in an order for resupply, medical supplies, replacement gear, a pizza, etc at nearby stores or restaurants, pick it up for you and meet you at a trail head or road crossing. Kinda like Uber Eats, or instacart only they'd meet you near the trail so you wouldn't have to walk into town. Also, arrange for them to stay a few minutes and take back the bags or boxes that the supplies came in. Im surprised there's not a service like that. You're both doing great. When its hot and humid and you come across a creek get the cold water and run it over your wrists and rub some on your legs so its not dripping and itchy. Also cold water on a neck wrap. It will cool the skin and tissues. I used to do that growing up before bed in the summer because I was so hot having an upstairs bedroom because for some reason my mom didnt like air conditioning and didn't have it added to our house when my parents built it.
Praying you get a break from the rain soon.🙏🙏 Be safe❤

Thank you. Some shuttle drivers will do this service if you ask them…usually it’s past thru hikers who really get it.
Great suggestion on staying cool. We often set our buffs and keep them around our necks. It makes a good difference.

On PA 74 at Children's Lake area northbound at AT Museum building that never seems to be open when I lived out east you must turn right for short time to turn left to reach U.S. 11 areas to reach Duncannon areas to reach Peters Mountain as you cross the Juniata, Susquehanna Rivers to cross NS RR onto Peters Mountain.

Morning, Bears. By this time you're probably up and at em down the trail. I think about that as I end each video. I'm not sure I would have such a great attitude hiking through the rain. I might be a bit grumpy. Ya'll just take whatever is going on in stride and keep walking. MB, maybe you were a bit dehydrated or short of electrolytes in the morning. I applaud you for pushing through and continuing to move north. Good to see Ellie. LB, how do you keep Ellie dry during all that hard rain? Is she in your pack liner bag? Just wondering. Congrats on being over 1/4 of the way to Maine. Hang in there. Take care of each other. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.

PA 641 Trindle Road White Barn Trailhead area coming southbound when I last walked that area I never made it to hike to PA 94, but reverse this as your walking north. As you leave PA 641 heading south you much turn right then walk road for a time to turn right go out to a road turn left to walk for a time to turn right to reach PA 174 & PA 74. That area can be tricky as when i walked in in 2022 from U.S. 11 south wasn't marked well. Remember reverse the lefts and rights as you ladies are walking north as I was walking south.

At Pine Grove Furnace area where north of at Railroad Road as you pull east on AT away from the RR line now road you at some point will cut across again to reach the Quarry and onto a short road then pull back to the left west to reach the small Railroad Yard as you will cut over PA 34 at Hunters Run and Junction as to the north on PA 34 is a store along the SB lane that has resupply items and cooked meals to go with picnic benches outside. As you come back to AT crossing of PA 34 it will have you cross PA 94 where you can turn left to walk down to PA 34 to walk into Mount Holley Springs to reach Dollar Store & Sheetz. With you being from Florida Sheetz hasn't moved down there yet as Sheetz has good hot foods MTO that is Made To Order as well as its a resupply option. Great Shakes MTO also.

PA 641 Trindle Road will bring you past Target, Rite Aid into Carlisle PA with a Weis, and other resupply stores including Wal-Mart, Post Office near by with Hotels and Motels. If you have to seek a hospital they are in Waynesboro, Carlisle, Harrisburg. As you reach the crossing of AT bridge over U.S. 11 as your exit trail past the Chamber's Gap Cemetary north of PA 641 you must exit onto a road to turn right to turn left back onto AT after leaving road over PA Turnpike to reach AT Bridge over U.S. 11. As you leave AT U.S. 11 crossover you will see high power lines as you exit the trail turn left that will take you down to Golf Couse Road where you ladies can stay at Days in on left side of Golf Course Road with a near by Sheetz, Waffle House and other stores. Little one please stay by Mom in that area as its deadly do to the traffic on U.S. 11, I 81, PA Turnpike. As you ladies walk back out to Days Inn now on your right side walk the right side until you get to the steps over fence on left side that will take you down to Barn Parking lot for you to go across Road to reach Duncannon PA that will have you walk over Sherman's Creek down onto Roads to reach bridge over Juniata River to U.S. 22/ U.S. 322. As you leave Duncannon at Historical Clark's Ferry for PA Canal you will cross Park in Ride to cross Norfolk Southern Railroad onto to the northern end of AT to reach Lehigh Valley areas. Adding also from the AT bridge over U.S. 11 in Carlisle if you get chance to eat at Middlesex Diner they also have great food.
