Hayseed Hamfest multi-E Caps have some sections with higher ratings than originals because today's line voltage is higher than the vintage equipment power supply standards of the past. With tube based amplifiers that is very important since the start up voltage would spike in some instances beyond spec and shorten the life of a new replacement E cap. This was demonstrated by a recent video by Paul Carlson. Nice old school FM receiver upgrade restoration Adam! You did see that custom made hardwood cabinet on fleabuy ? That woodworker (andswell) makes custom builds for you if you want. It would be the icing on the cake of this receiver!
Yes, I usually use 500v electrolytics in radios with 450's, for the same reason. The Hayseed caps are a great drop in solution. Worth doing for something like this. I've also got a 500B I'll be getting to eventually. I do know of a local guy who does cabinets too, and I may consider one... Though for the moment I love looking at the tubes lit up while it's playing. I did also replace the knob caps which made a huge difference in appearance.
I always wanted a Fisher, but never could afford it. Now days I listen to an old Sony that still powers my good speakers well enough for my hearing aides to translate the music to something my old ears can pick up. It will never sound as good today as it did before I went to Nam in 70 and came home with a ringing in my ears that has never let up. Uncle Sugar gives me a couple hundred bucks and free hearing aides every few years but it just isn't the same. They gave us ear plugs in Basic but nobody told us to take them along over to Nam, and over there you would not have time to stick them in when the shells flew anyhow. Aw well it is all part of getting old I guess. Gotta go see mom at the Home now, she is. 97 and still going strong, hope I can make it that long but since I already had a bit of a fight with cancer, I have my doubts.
Sony made some good stuff, especially in the 70's. My mother lost her hearing in one year about a year ago, and constantly complains music doesn't sound the same... And she refuses to look into a hearing aid. People are stubborn, I'm sure I'd be the same way! Amazing your mom's 97. What a great life!

It's very nice to see that there's still people who can work on vintage equipment

@@a587g The original knobs have a circular valley cut into them where gold paint was added.
