I know this is an old video, but just wanted to let you know you’ve helped a used-to-be musician pick up on of their instruments again and not feel so lost! This use to be one of my favorite little jigs to play on my violin. Picked up the mandolin again this week and was mostly playing with scales and bits of songs I could remember - nothing solid and I was getting frustrated even though that’s expected after years of not playing. This got me back to playing a full tune with confidence, and brought a huge smile to my face! Thank you!!!
Im 66 and just started working on the mandolin a few months ago. I have watched a ton of videos and yours are by far the easiest and best to learn. Thanks for all your hard work.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know a way to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the account password. I would love any help you can offer me.
@Tripp Josue I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
You’re my new favourite thing to watch on RUclips! 2 decades of not touching the mando - might change now with self isolation and you at the helm! Yay!
bro thank you so much! i was just about to search mandolin teachers in my area, then i came across your channel. It feels like youre sitting in the room with me. you teach at a perfect pace, and are very clear. Best youtube teacher i've seen. its super cool of you to do this for free. youre doing a great thing my man! I cant pay you with money but i can express my appreciation. cheers!
Also an easy way to remember Dorian mode is that it's built on the 2nd. So 'D' dorian simply uses the C scale and the tune often begins with Dm. 'A' dorian uses the notes from the scale of G etc. Thanks for the video.
This is a very understandable instructor, a little fast but still good. I'm really excited to learn from him. I thank you so much for allowing Him to teach on RUclips. Royce Thank You and be Blessed
Wow Baron I don't know how you do it but it's my first week on the Mando and after watching other tutorials and never thought I get it but I went through this video and after an hour I got it! Your an amazing teacher, we all really appreciate your videos! ❤️
Hi Baron, I had overlook this tune, but it is AWESOME and sounds great. Seriously you have me playing at a level I thought would take years!, you're the best mando lesson guy on youtube!!
Played guitar for many years and finally decided to try the mandolin. Great format that you use to teach makes it easy to follow along. Thanks for your time it is much appretiated.
Thank you so much for posting all these lessons. You are my #1 mando resource now. I'm still going to get a teacher just to have an outside perspective on my playing. Much love man. Thanks again.
Jason Kifner Thanks, I'm honored! It's definitely good to get another perspective as well, lots of people have a lot of good things to say! Thanks for watching!
This is a tremendous tune and, again, you've done a great job teaching it. I'm really making progress through your lessons (but not quite ready to crank up my metronome yet). Thanks.
I bought a week ago my first mandolin I love this instrument. Your videos and your webiste help me a lot (also this one!)! Thanks a lot and greetings from germany! =)
Do you play any other instruments. Im from Ireland and I play the tin whistle, accordion and piano and i find it very hard to find tutorials for Irish instruments so if you play any of those can you make vids for them, thanks
I play Tenor Guitar (tuned GDAD), and am working on 6 string guitar, clawhammer banjo, button accordion, and tenor banjo. At this point I only have the skills and time to make mandolin videos. Too many instruments, too little time, haha! Thanks for watching!
I like how you really slow it down. But I find it hard to follow your example of the last phrase of A part and how your putting it together with the first phrase.
+Dow Row Exactly, well done and a great connection to make! It is technically in E dorian, which is the same as playing the notes of a D scale starting on the second note of a D major scale (an E). Most tune-players will just call dorian (and several other modes) "modal", but that's folk music theory for you. Thanks for watching, Baron

1 dollar a month...anyone can afford that!! Give it a thought, every bit helps him.

Yeah, I love this tune! Thanks for watching, and the metronome's allure will come in time!
You have a fantastic song knowledge base and you make learning them very easy.
Thank you you are a great teacher..............I am really enjoying this lesson.
Been following you awhile and I will always come back to you to learn anything! Thank you
Just a beginner myself, you are a great teacher, thanks a lot my friend!

Another excellent IRISH tune for me to learn NOW thks Baron!!
loved this, playing it on my octave mando
You don't happen to have a video of accompaniment with the tenor guitar do you? I just love your stuff. Thanks so much!
You've just got another sub, absolutely brilliant, thorough lesson for a beginner like myself!
Thanks for joining the party! Happy picking!
Baron
Thanks man! Long time guitar player and lover of the Irish tunes. Just got a mandolin recently and love this jig! Keep pumping out the good lessons!

Meavy2 Thanks for the kind words, I am glad you've been enjoying the site!Baron
I love your lessons! Have you considered putting your playalong tracks onto Spotify? It would be great for practicing.
Great lesson. This is really helpful in getting used to the 6/8 tempo. I'm cranking the speed up with help of my metronome. Thanks!
Woohoo! Glad you are enjoying the tune, and glad to hear the metronome is helping out. They are great tools!
I love the Dorian mode -- to me, it feels "solemn" rather than "sad" (as the natural minor/Aeolian mode does).
+Aaron Minnick I agree!
You're a great teacher! Thank you!
+ShafterRod thanks for watching!
The tune is written in G and the chords are Em and D.
sick vid buddy taught me my first mandolin jig
+Dawsman Ashley Woohoo! Glad to hear it!
Thanks for the ace tutorial, I'm a mandolin beginner and this was really enjoyable to learn :) Keep it up! 😊
Perhaps you've gone over this but could you give some tips on how to avoid buzzing sounds? thank you for what you do!
Thanks for a great tutorial - now to learn it!
Thanks for watching! Have fun with it!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
great job. Thanks for all the effort.
Great tune this, some say over played at sessions, but there's a reason for that, its a good tune. Goes well with kesh and the Blackthorne stick.
Sounds like a great set, thanks for watching!
Great lesson.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you ....I love this one !!!
The Family Ghost Thanks!
Thanks man.

Baron any chance that you can do a video on the Jig `Scatter the Mud` notice you don`t have this one in your video library collection.Luv Jigs! Tan
Thanks!
Mike Swanson Thanks for watching!
You're sounding great man! Can you tell me what pick and thickness your using? I suspect blue chip.
Check his website...I bought 3 of them.
I like how you really slow it down. But I find it hard to follow your example of the last phrase of A part and how your putting it together with the first phrase.
very nice!
Thanks!
Could you do some gospel songs? Thank uou
Hello great song, which brand and model of your mandolin?
thanks
Thanks for watching! I play a mandolin built by Tom Ellis from Austin, TX. It's his baseline A5 model, I can't remember the exact model number.
ok... the captions are so far off it's quite funny ;) Love this lesson.
Ur mando is sweet !
E dorian - key of D start and based around the second note of the scale which is the E,
is this correct anyone?
Exactly right!
It's in E dorian
where are the tabs?
♥1:15♥
Should be spelled Gigue, not jig.
Thanks for the lesson!
I asked Google assistant to play mandolin and it sent me here
You're missing the two lead in notes on the D string at fret 2 and 4
This scale has the same notes as D major, is this a mod or something like that?
+Dow Row Exactly, well done and a great connection to make! It is technically in E dorian, which is the same as playing the notes of a D scale starting on the second note of a D major scale (an E). Most tune-players will just call dorian (and several other modes) "modal", but that's folk music theory for you.

#MandoMan
Sounds like a riff from Last of The Mohicans
is this not the tune that was played in the fist combat scene where he attacked that column to free his son....
+robert bullard I'm not sure!
K
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😎👌
