    Three great looking knives. The GI is such good value. The sheath alone is a great buy!

      6 years later the recon tanto drop in price $39 in Amazon, the leatherneck is up in price and the GI tanto is about the same. I’m one knife guy and had the recon for a while, good but.. now only have my Ranger RD6 and Cold Steel SR1 or spyderco para 2 or Cold steel recon1 as backup.

    Honestly all the steels are of the same quality its your preference that really matters I like high carbon but some people like alloy stainless steels, it goes to to preference in my opinion

    Awesome review! My main camp knife is currently the GI Tanto, but I'm looking for something more versatile. That Leatherneck SF is speaking to me. It's saying "what are you waiting for just buy me". I think I will now.

      The GI is literally bomb proof I have had it as my main knife for 3 years now since I lost my Buck Thug. And I just threw it around butchered wood with it and used it as throwing knife. It held up so well. Just a bit more work sharpening it, definitely not bad! Just a bit heavy compared to other knives I have (though the extra weight gives it chopping power).

    Recon Tanto is the best. I have a Recon Tanto in 3V. Sombitch is hair popping sharp. I strop it on my leather belt.

      After using the SK5 Recon for 14 months going from Florida to Maine and stopping at many states in between camping and fishing, the Recon is a perfect sized, perfect outdoor companion knife! It batons better than the SRK and other knives its size because of the length and curve stout thickness out to 1/4" from the tip. It also chops exceptionally well and maintains its edge through a season of use with no sharpening. I was even able to make a bow drill fire starter with it. I have the 3v Master tanto and magnum tanto and a VG10 Srk and the ability of the SK5 is almost as good! I just got the VG10 Recon, but I lust for a 3V !

    I gave it a like as encouragement. But these sheaths are not kydex. They are secure-ex and that's some plastic composite Cold Steel came up with. They are decent sheaths.
    Also there's no such thing as 'SK-5 high German 4116 Stainless Steel'. Sk5 is a Japanese carbon steel now also produced in Taiwan. When you are doing a review always go to the original website and get your info there and you will see that the Leatherneck SF is made of D2 steel, a semi stainless steel.

    • @iruwild
      @iruwild 2 года назад

      I think the leatherneck did come in german 4116 stainless..which I think is kinda crappy..the current upgraded D2 should be much better. SK5 is Japanese low end knife steel, like what is SRK is made of..but very tough and holds an edge pretty decent.

    the srk is designed for mission survival but yes it can be used as a defensive blade. wouldn't say it's the more intimidating but to each his own.

    To be honest, I have this GI tanto. I really put it to the test and comes with flying colors. There may be other more high end blades out there. But will you really torture it? This GI tanto will not let you down. Can cut and pierce through car door. Watch the blackforest tortured test on this knife and you will see why it is always out of stock at the Coldsteel website.

    I have the San Mai 3 & cpm 3v recon tanto version. Too expensive especially living here in Singapore. 2 blades cost more than 400usd. How to afford larger blades? Lol

    I consider the Leatherneck SF to be the best. It can be used for survival as well as for defence and that steel guard makes it a winner. I have the D2 version and I hope they will make it in CPM3V. I also have the Recon Tanto, it's a good knife, but that small rubber finger guard it's not appropriate for such a knife. I appreciate your videos. Best regards and stay sharp.

      Why is the leatherneck better than the tanto? I want the more durable between the two

    • @gunner3548
      @gunner3548 3 года назад

      @@andrewdelvalle4622 the clip point blade is well suited for any task. You could even sharpen the clip point thus making it even better for combat if the situation demands it. Like a said, a steel guard makes the difference. I am against rubber handles, even the Leatherneck could be improved by replacing that rubber handles with G10 or micarta removable sales. The San mai or sk5 are tougher than the D2, it depends what you intend to do with your knife.

    Those are all good knives,,,,combat approved and even good bush craft blades except the recon tanto,,,it a samurai side blade,,,I would say the GI tanto is the best regardless of the looks as looks don't matter as much as functionality,,,,tanto hands down

    Next time use a light color background.....shows off the knives better.....especially if they are all black......but overall very informative review.....

    I like your video's my man cause I just watch knife video's all night lol, a few corrections though, but the one I'll mention is the sheath's are not in fact Kydex. They are Cold Steel's "Secure-Ex" with is not Kydex. Just fyi. Still like your vids though, its easy to slip up I do it too.
