  • Injuring your fingers is a common occurrence in BJJ. In this video I discuss an injury I sustained to one of my fingers and show you how I assessed the finger to evaluate the injury.
This obviously effected gripping and gi training as well as no-gi grappling. I have found that taping the fingers when injured has been a really effective way to protect the hand/fingers as well and I will share a specific taping technique for this injury in a follow up video.
Remember that seeing a medical professional such as a Doctor or a Physical Therapist is always a good idea for evaluating and treating any injury.

I injured my right ring finger the same way as you at my first bjj class two and a half weeks ago. I couldn’t avoid not using it cause of work, but I accidentally cracked it today and the swelling went down and it feels less painful

Do you still recommend icing due to the man that developed the RICE protocol retracting his research, stating that he was wrong?

Have you or anyone here developed persistent swelling and some slight numbness in their thumb tips or fingertips from climbing or high repetition weight lifting?
What did you do to recover from the problem?

I have an injury in my middle finger like your small finger and my finger has a bump like yours. please tell me is that possible to get the finger shape back to normal. at the moment I did not take any treatment since It caused a small incident to happened this so I thought it's a small cramp and will fix it with time but it didn't. Now the finger can move like before but has some pain with a bump and some small bending range problems. I rested at the time this happened and did some small treatment at home since those days could not go outside this pandemic lockdown and did not wet with cold water too. It is the pip joint in the middle finger. Please advise... Thanks in advance.

      Yes,
Sometimes the bump doesn’t go away.
However, have you gotten the injury assessed? Want to make sure no fracture

@@TheJiuJitsuTherapist Yes, I got an exray as soon as we were allowed to go outside Its doctor checked the x-ray and said no fracture, But the bump is the same as before. and I asked you since I saw you have a similar incident to me.

@@TheJiuJitsuTherapist Thanks for the video mate, I’ve done exactly the same. I continued training which wasn’t the best idea in hindsight. It’s still giving me pain around 6 weeks down the line. I went for an x-ray and it confirmed that it wasn’t a fracture. How long did it take for your finger to recover and did it ever straighten out?
