Story 2; I'm a little confused. The OP said they were going out to eat less, but she knows she has Starbucks every morning? Is she there to see it? Because if she's cut down on dining out, she'd have surely cut down on that too. I have a niggling suspicion that she's making a lot of assumptions about their lives. But yeah, they should sell that third car and try to figure something out long term
S3: NTA. Even if op had the money she's not responsible for her brothers' bank. The fact that neither her father or stepmom helped op out financially, but they want her to pay for her brother is bloody ridiculous. He can work and take out student loans like op. I'm sick of people (including Steven) assuming that even if op has the money she's not obligated to help just because it's a family member asking her to do so. If family wants something so badly then they should work out how to get it for themselves. No one is owed an easy life just because they're related by blood. You working hard and earning your own way in life teaches you about hard work and being responsible which includes understanding that there is no such thing as a free lunch. The parents were responsible for putting money away for their son's college. He can get a job and start saving.
Thrifting Story: I’d argue that thrifting is *more* responsible and sustainable than buying “fast fashion” from these stores and websites that mass-produce cheap clothing that ends up in landfill and ends up in thrift shops anyway. Not only that; in the UK they’re called “Charity Shops” often because all the money spent in the stores go towards charities like cancer research, heart conditions, Alzheimer’s and dementia, children’s charities, pet and animal charities, etc. It doesn’t come down to whether or not someone *can* afford to buy first-hand clothing, people shouldn’t feel bad for thrifting - if anything, they should be proud.
Story 1: OP should go full on Homer Simpson and tell his parents he wants his new name to be Hercules Rockefeller, Rembrandt Q. Einstein, and Handsome B. Wonderful before settling for Max Power.
I will say the grandpa is a little bit of a jerk not really for not helping but because what he is saying about oh they make more than we made and no one helped us sounds like all older generations who don't understand that there is a huge price difference from raising your kid and her raising her child now. I do think she needs to change her lifestyle but you really do sound like a "back in my day" person
_"Childhood's over the moment you know you're gonna die."_ -- Top Dollar Nothing wrong with those paintings. Kinda funny and appropriate them all being in the bafroom, though!
Thrift stores are stores, if someone wants to buy something for "arts and crafts", that is their business, especially after the person in question turned their nose up at it. 🙄 No boohooing later.
S7: I googled all of those and I don't see anything gory or scary. Unfortunately the way the little girl labeled the paintings is why the sil was peeved. I hate parents who think that protecting their children is better than telling them the truth and allowing them to explore and expand their interest.
Sonny Bono? A nice famous Sonny. Who cares about the vowel, it's a good enough name. It's kind of creepy how the parents wanted to change it. So let me get this straight, dear old Dad didn't give OP anything when they went to college, didn't save anything for bro to go, but EXPECTS OP to pony up a few $k so bro can go to school? OP should sit down with bro, go over what Dad saved for bro, and what OP did to pay for school. Bro shouldn't be mad at OP, he should be mad at dear old Dad.
S5: My moms wedding dress ended up getting donated to a thrift store - without my knowledge. I only found out years later. My hope is that someone was able to love it like she did. And if that meant altering to their taste or for some other reason, that is the best I could hope for rather than thinking it was lost to time.
1. My dad had a friend named Sunny and hes a sweet guy ❤ love the name as well 4. Does feel weird. At least for me. I spent the night at my friends apartment and she wanted me to chill in her room so we did and her bf was sleeping on the couch but idk that. I was waiting for someone to say let’s go to bed or something. Anyways I walked out and I’m like mfer go to your bed 💀 because I’m not trying to sleep in someone else’s bed.
For the thrifting story I don’t think it’s a bad thing to take an outfit and remodel it even if you have the money to get a new dress. It’s called upcycling and it actually helps the environment :). I also think if someone buys something why do I care what they do with it.
Thrift stores are for anyone, as OP said it was a damaged dress that they brought back to life through their own grit. It’s theirs no moral issue about it

S9: You chose to stay with your dad when they were fighting for custody instead of going with your mom. Plus your mom had remarried and couldn't stay just because you wanted your family back together. Then when you did visit your mom, you expected her to ignore her step-children and just put you first for the entire 5 to 7 weeks that you stayed. Did you think that she was going to just stay in a hotel during the 5 to 7 weeks of your stay so that the two of you could just hang out? Now you're trying to make her beg you to stay with her again. Be careful young man because at some point she's going to stop trying to take you in and just cut contact with you because this is probably affecting her relationship with her husband. Either live with your mom and get over yourself or cut the ties that bind by staying with your deceased father's grandparents and stop torturing your mom for not choosing to dump her new family to stay with you. You don't know why your parents divorced but you don't get to lay all of it on your mom.

Family helps family!! haha For real though the whole "Family helps family" thing is hypocritical, since where is the "family" to help OP, or someone in their position, but that same "family" expects OP to drop everything to help them!? If they can't help themselves then that's on them and no one else!
Thrift shop finds can be bought by whoever finds them, and you snooze, you lose
