This kinda floored me. The true fan style respect Thile shows with humility and joy is humbling. Meaningless. Somewhat ashamed to admit I downloaded it off Napster in the late 90s. Ruined my day...
Chris needs to make a record with Jon, Andy Partridge, Neil Finn, Roger Manning, Tim Smith, Jason Falkner and Ben Folds - produced by Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake with a special guest appearance by Bruce Kaphan. Maybe it’s a purpose built film score / soundtrack about a boy who dreams music and sees planets and stars forming. He hums a melody and floats away at the end. The world becomes silent and everything stops. Cut to a montage of fields of hay, traffic, honeybees, clouds - all stop in place. Silence. The Sun changes color slightly - fade to credits - Partridge singing over Ben Folds piano with Chris playing solo violin and Kaphan interweaving counterpoint. Everyone else joins in a vocal arrangement scored by Dave Gregory.
Please get Jon Brion on the show and have him do whatever he wants
More mellotron
For my money, Jon is the greatest musical mind on earth right now.
We need to coordinate all of Jon's friends and musical collaborators to encourage him in doing another studio album. The world needs more of this.

The drum-mandolin duet section is exquisite.

Great. "I Believe She's Lying", too... :-)
They didn't knock it out of the park, but it's still great.
