  • The Chilli “Midstrength” was designed for ease of paddling without sacrificing rail work and performance. When surfing a board over 7’ in length, you are always a little dubious when you hear the word, performance, but in this instance they got it spot on!
    I was very impressed by the board and some of my guest testers, Dave and Richard, absolutely loved it. For an older guy, wanting a board for average wave days where the shortboard is hard work, look no further. This is a solid option for you.
    I surfed it in a thruster and quad - I definitely preferred the Quad.
    My Stats: 5’11” and 112kg
    Board Stats: 7’6" x 22 1/4 x 3'
    Volume: 55 Litres
    Buy the Board: darkstardirect.co.za/shop/sur...
    The Surfboards: Chilli - Midstrength, Channel Islands - Midlength, Wedge - Humpback, Natural Curve - Midlength Charger, Hurricane - Modern Midlength, Dutchie Surf Designs - Asymmetrical Midlength
    Each board will feature in its own episode and I cant wait to share them with you.

    Thank you for your review. I just picked up this board and rode it a few days ago. I love it. I really agree with your comment about it wanting to be on rail. This board just wants to turn. I'm riding it as a quad using Noel Salas' fins. It's fast and highly responsive vs the many other mid length boards I ride. Even though it's a 7'2" I don't feel the length at all. Instead it feels more like a short board. I love it. This will take my surfing to the next level(s). Thanks again!

    I love my Chilli Mid Strength! The thing paddles like a dream, catches waves so easily, and it turns really well. It is such a fun & easy board to surf! I feel like it is good from 2' to 10' surf so it has a huge wave range too. I have been riding it as a thruster. I am going put some twins in and give that a go soon too just to how it rides as a twin.

    Shame you couldn't get a Dutchie Twin Pin Mid. I've recently got a 7'2" with channels and its something else. Never thought I'd ride aboard that long let alone it be the first one in the shed I'm reaching for. Great series, keep up the awesome work.

    Hey mate, I love your review. I had the mid strength epoxy 6.8 it was amazing. I just felt the epoxy wasn't right for me in choppy conditions. Very responsive and manoeuvrable on the tail, I surfed it as a twin.
    I'm hesitating between the same in pu or the CI mid length. Which one is more high-performance, and which one is more all-rounder?

    • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hey bud, my top lock for all rounder is the CI with the 2+1 fin setup - absolutely love it. The Chilli is great for chunky and powerful surf, especially as a quad. I am waiting for a CI mid twin to try out. Thanks for watching and engaging.

    Needs a lot of wave to get going.. more of a big guy step up. The difference is night and day conpared to the ci mid. Ci mid has way more drive. That Chili midstrength will excel in 5-8 ft long period indo waves, where you would have too much speed on the ci mid

    • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  7 месяцев назад

      I agree, loves good waves, much like the Pyzel. For me the CI is the best all-rounder. I am excited to try the CI Twin Mid.

      @@TheRegularGuyReview Ohhhh. Right. When you say nets, you guys have nets around the beaches to keep sharks out? I remember seeing something like that for Australia. I'm in SoCal and lately there have been tons of sharks here. Like, it seems more than usual.

      Hi, I am using some custom Quads by Maisch Fins in SA. They are a slightly bigger outline than standard Large fin and have a bit more rake. Similar to the Mick Fanning outline in a quad.

      @@TheRegularGuyReview Cheers for your reply I’ve only had mine for 2 weeks and have tried futures legacies tri set and Machado 2+1 upright fins & the board feels really hard to turn for me with both those sets . Mines 7,2” feet I’m 100kg but been riding shortboards 35 years . I will definitely put quads in for my next surf and hopefully that will loosen it up a bit ? maybe it just me not being use to Mid,s quit yet loving how fast this board goes through soon as I get it turning easily I think I will live on this board through summer. hmmm quads hay Thanks again 👍🏽

    I’m 5”4 and 63kg. I presume the 6’6 would be my only option as I am so small and light ? I’ve been a 5”6 short boarder all my life but I’m not enjoying surfing as much due to my degrading fitness and generally poor waves where I surf

    • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  11 месяцев назад +1

      You could definitely go shorter, but work with them on getting your volume right. I would go at least 5-8 litres higher than your shortboard. I surf 42L shortboard and my mid 52/54L - having said that I don’t like going to short on the mid as you lose the glide factor. Hope that helps

      @@TheRegularGuyReview yep makes sense , another reason is i want to smooth out my surfing and get my technique dialled in more , understand where my turns are coming from . • @TheRegularGuyReview
      @TheRegularGuyReview  2 года назад +3

      These new Kids have very thin tails and rail lines into the tail, which makes them much easier to turn, without losing paddle power. Just plant the back foot right on the tail and boom!
