Got one, I've loved it for about eight years now. My only complaint is how easily the blades chip. Everyone recommends the helix cutter, but I can't justify a $600 upgrade to an already great machine. Plus, I don't use it enough to make the helix cutter pay for itself. I do a lot of hand planing 'cause I like the procedure and the final finish. Also, the blades are double sided and are inexpensive enough when you have to replace them. Another fine job, Mike.
I’m right there with you. I have a chipped blade now that makes a line on anything I plane. Will have to flip the blades next use. I agree with you about the helix too. Looks awesome but the price has kept me away since this isn’t an every week use tool for me. Even less now that I spend my free time making vids. Thanks again!
Thanks, your videos are straight to the point and so honest!! Can you review some good thickness planers that on limited budgets, other than DEWALT ? Of course to be good enough for good output, with a good budget. Thanks, and appreciate your work
I've been thinking about getting this exact planer and the price seems fair but the quality has been my worry till now . You've done a great job answering that for me , Ty
That planer has given me zero trouble since I bought it a few years ago. It’s also require no adjustments in that time. I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed. Thanks for watching!
I have the Bauer from HF. My only complaint is the snipe I get on the boards. I've tried a few jigs to minimize it, but it is still there. My neighbor is more serious into WW than I am and he just got the DW planer. So I'll probably just run over there if I need to. Lol. Great review. Northwest Indiana support here my dude.
Jason! This DeWALT will snipe a board just like all the rest, I don't think you can spend your way out of that with a bench top. Ill get the HF in here for testing eventually! Got the other DeWALT in the shop now for testing so should be next week. We Love Indiana and thank you for the support!!!
A good summary of this machine. I have had this planer for over six years now, and I am still very happy with it. Many boards went through this little thing, and it had to withstand some misuse. Just recently, I many board foot of quartersawn white oak went through it, and no complaints. Changing blades is easy, like a walk in the park, and they hold up very well. The only downside is the noise, that thing is very noisy. I will upgrade to a spiral cutter head, bringing the noise down and improving the surface quality. Great tool for the price compared to other similar-sized planer.
I agree the noise is bad. This is hands down the loudest machine I run in the shop. New hearing protection was bought shortly after! Thanks for the comment!
Thank You for the review… I’ve been on marketplace on and on ..for a planer. I wanted to get a planer, basic rigid 12’ inch one 2 blade. But I think I would need to invest in this. I may need to shell out 1k for this planer. Wife got me going on some crazy projects this summer lol. Do you think the 12” planer is good enough and comparable to this? They bought have 3blades and I don’t need to break the bank as much $849 cad for this or $589 for the 12” one. Let me know what you think pls. Any input is appreciated
Hello John! I have the DW734 12 inch planer in the shop now for testing. Watch for an overview on that model this Friday and a side by side comparison video of the two the following week. They are both good but I have a clear favorite and they are pretty different in function. Please post any questions you have and Im happy to help! Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Perfect timing... I will be picking up the planer this weekend. And been comparing on my off nights at work watching youtube lol 735x vs 734 can't wait!
Hello David! I’ll get my hands on that Delta planer for a review eventually! I’ve got the other DeWALT in the shop now. That vid should be in the next week or two. Thanks for watching!
Just bought this. It arrived today.
Why am I commenting?... I should be in the shop setting this up!!!!!
Thanks for the great over view!.
Nice!! Thank you for watching!

If you have a tread thats painted(dry) would that still work well or gum up the planer?
Really interesting review. I'm thinking of getting one myself. I'm only a hobbyist but part of the hobby is having reliable and fun tools : )

Nice review! I have a delta 22-580. To be honest, i love it. But, it is also my first planer so i have nothing to compare it to. Anyway, great video.
