Your math videos gave me a great deal of confidence going into my grade 2 exam. Thank you sir for doing this. All your excellent content is greatly appreciated
Great video. Nice thing about my Operator career is that I get to cross the street from my house to the plant. Save a fortune in gas, and get asked to work a lot of over time. I love the WWTP business and it is pretty much recession proof if you license up and continue learning for you younger guys looking for a career. It may not be glorious, but I guarantee you that every day is different and you get to solve problems which is pretty rewarding. Keep the plant happy and in balance you have a career with great rewards and benefits. You may not become a millionaire, but you can live comfortably.
Very true. But sometimes its hard to just "get in the field" unless you know someone already in the industry. I find that your chances of getting hired are greater the higher level of certificate you pass.
Love the breakdown of the process to becoming an operator. Very informative and helpful. I'm currently going to school for wastewater treatment operator. Taking the state exam in April, 2018 for grade 1. I like the path you chose for taking the exams. Excellent video.
Thank you so much dude. I'm getting ready to retire and trying to set myself up for another career. I am going to power through with the education at a J.C. and look at the courses at Sac State to pad my requirements.
@R9G5V6 No, they do not provide masks to prevent smelling odors. The only time a mask is provided is when you need to enter an area that has a hazardous atmosphere. If you cant handle the smell, then this job is not for you.
@khoachino Did you call them? They have no idea what theyre talking about half the time. Theyre website still says that all 5 of them are 9 CEU's. Doesnt matter anyways even if you are right. If you're right then that means 12 x 3 = 36 plus 6 x 2 = 12 for a grand total of 48 CEU's... 3 more than 9 x 5 = 45 CEU's
@epakerd I could but it wouldnt be representative of the industry as a whole. Some plants are very laid back and others are busy busy busy. But im going to be making process videos very soon.
@twtmei88 Where do you live? CA? If so keep an eye on CWEA.org job postings, BC water jobs, and Calopps websites for new jobs in CA. If you live out of state I don't know of any websites for jobs outside of CA. You should try to get your Lab Analyst certificate from CWEA (if you live in CA). It will make you a more desirable candidate.
@CAwastewater Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I am living in California, around 60-10 freeway. Thank you for your reply. Are you working as an operator now? I am working in a privately owned analytical lab. I am sure u know the place if I mention the name.
Thank you for this insight. I’m just beginning my career in sanitation and feel good about it after watching this video!! Thank you for the great content!
@twtmei88 I have met plenty of female operators. But, I would say its tougher. The job is physically demanding. I think someone with your college background would be very suited for a lab position at a treatment plant.
@CAwastewater ic. thanks for the input. it is so hard for me to find an internship or entry level lab position at a plant as i am no longer a student. do u have any suggestion? many thanks
I am new to your channel on youtube and i saw the content its very educational for the people like me who are looking forward to get there feet in the waste water treatment plant. I am bachelor in mechanical engineering with C.P.A 3.12 from India, from the last 6 years i am living in California struggling and looking for a career change. If possible can you help me guide what should i do?? For any questions feel free to ask Thank you in advance
I work at a small plant just running a DAF system do I need to have a class 1 op to sign me off to get my class one or does the time I’ve been here count and I can go get it my self?
Wish I could get hired to get the experience down. All these jobs require certification but I can't get certified unless I have job experience correct?
@Eltoro590 Basically. Give the state a call and see what they have to say. I've never heard of someone trying it without some sort of wastewater class under their belt. Make sure you talk to someone that knows what their talking about (9 out of 10 times you call the person doesnt really know the regulations). 916 341-5819
question I have my associate degree in mathematics plus a few chemistry courses plus just completed the first two sections adding up to 3.6 ceus I meet the requirements to take the exam up to a T4 do you recommend me to take the t4 exam or which level do you recommend me to take. I am thinking the t4 is to advanced since I only have two sections completed.
Hello I've seen your videos on RUclips and find them to be very helpful and that's why I write you in regards to my situation I currently work for Los Angeles county as a warehouse worker and every once in a while they open up the waste water plant operator position which requires the grade 2 certification and I'm very interested in it and ambitious to take the courses but my problem is I'm not willing to leave my employer in order to get experience somewhere else as I'm already vested with Los Angeles county. What would you suggest? Thanks your time is greatly appreciated.
is this field mainly for guys? i have a bachelor in chemistry and interested in working in environmental chemistry field related to water treatment. please help...thanks
Hi my name is Say I watched your youtube video, i am getting prepared to take my waste water 1 exam. I have a question. Is the operations of wastewater treatment plants volume 1 and 2 just about all I would need for the exam?
Don't waste ur time going to school for this. Get in the field 1st as an OIT otherwise it's a waste of time. Doesn't matter what Grade u pass, u can't be certified without the experiences. It must be experience from an POTW Treatmeant Plant otherwise it doesn't count.
@@quekoh5410Network! Network! Network! Know someone that work there that can pull some strings that will help you get a job there as an OIT. No experiences needed, just as long as you have a high school diploma. Take the OIT TEST within 3 months. Your employer will help you passed that test. It's an easy test if you study for it. If you can't go through this path, do something else. There always something else better as a career. There is industry wastewater which paid almost as well. I did that for more then 15 years before becoming a chemist. Indian reservations also have treatment plant and some casinos have water and wastewater treatment plant that meet POTW Plant.
it would be helpful to explain the 6 unit education requirements when youre explaining level 1 not all into level 3, also u start how too"s on water an d end it in wastewater ,,, im not interested in waist water you could at least explain what you started, this is a very poorly executed video

How do you feel about getting into this career path currently? I'm considering it.
excellent video. No fancy music or editing, straight to the point....well explained and makes total sense. Thank you!
Just remember everybody, "Your Poo is our Bread and Butter" Keep it coming. :)

Good luck
Just got hired as a water dist operator. Hours count as OIT. I had already completed my small wastewater system vol. 1 and 2 !!
Thank you so much dude. I'm getting ready to retire and trying to set myself up for another career. I am going to power through with the education at a J.C. and look at the courses at Sac State to pad my requirements.

@miltonalcon I would say it depends on where you work... some plants are laid back, others you work your butt off. To each his/her own.
I see the Sac State University site sells the book, does buying it allow you to take the test? Where do you end up testing?
@khoachino Did you call them? They have no idea what theyre talking about half the time. Theyre website still says that all 5 of them are 9 CEU's.

Well how do you even get into operater in training in the first place? If most if any always require experience
@hassan1854 Yes, but if you pass you only have 4 years to get your one year as an OIT before the test expires and you will have to re take it.
@epakerd I could but it wouldnt be representative of the industry as a whole. Some plants are very laid back and others are busy busy busy. But im going to be making process videos very soon.
I enrolled small waste well today, and mentorship would be greatly appreciated.
New career start with pervious experience as pipe fitter.
I just checked with the SAC CSU and all those books are 12 CEU's and the "small system" are only 6 ceu's.
@MrTripplenipple sounds like youre on the right path to an awesome water job
What courses do I need to get the D2 certification card ?
I already have 2 associates degrees also .

im taking the grade 1 test on saturday and they do not ask for any courses just your high school diploma
oh and thanks for the videos by the way they really made me feel better!
I'm taling Ken kerrick course. How is your career working out for you.

@twtmei88 Yes I am an operator now. I work for Veolia Water at the Novato CA treatment plant off of US 101.
I am new to your channel on youtube and i saw the content its very educational for the people like me who are looking forward to get there feet in the waste water treatment plant.

What if I have zero years of experience but end up getting an associates in water technology, what would u recommend?
Are there any online classes to earn CEUs?
@Eltoro590 No problem. If you have any other questions, email me at cawastewater@yahoo.com
Great Information! Thanks for posting.
When you say grade 1, are u referring to a C license?
@ENOCH1611 I have no idea. I only know CA regulations. Contact your states water control board for information.

yogistogi Sometimes it takes some sacrifice to obtain the job you want. Or you could try finding an OIT job somewhere that pays.
So what if you do path 1 with the 2.5 to be a grade 2, can you sacrifice the 16 Ceu's to take the grade 3 exam?
Looking to go to a community college near Stockton sac sf area would you happen to know if any college provide classes to become operators
Do you WWTP operatosr find your job fullfilling and stimulating on a day-to-day basis?
Very good vid! Thx for the info!
can u film what your job is like and post it on youtube?
What is the pathway to become an OIT?
is this field mainly for guys? i have a bachelor in chemistry and interested in working in environmental chemistry field related to water treatment. please help...thanks
@latinlady1987 There is no pathway. Just get hired as one at a treatment plant.
Hi my name is Say I watched your youtube video, i am getting prepared to take my waste water 1 exam. I have a question. Is the operations of wastewater treatment plants volume 1 and 2 just about all I would need for the exam?
Cryptofutures am thinking of taking it as well let me know how it goes
More than enough info in Volume 1. Grade 1 is very basic. Try and study up on some grade 1 specifics. The Sac state books can be overkill.
Anyone know the difference between a treatment operator and distribution system operator? Also is one better then the other? Thanks
Adam Vasquez they are two totally different certifications. Treatment deals with waste water and distribution deals with tap water
was the state exams base on Sacramento state books
Sort of. Those books are FULL of knowledge. Try and keep it to the basics for the lower grade levels.
Can I take Grade One right way
YES YOU CAN...
could this training apply for the state of arizona?
most likely yeah
I've heard it works well in most states.
I am studying for a level 5 and i don't know the path fool.
I have one of these books and I wouldn’t recommend. Way too much material and will not retain
