So, vocaloids aren't really "vtubers with music", but they're actually virtual singers (as in, there isn't a singer singing all of Miku's songs, although a real person's voice samples were used to make Miku's voice bank).

Just a note I'm sure others have brought up, but this song is by Wowaka! Hatsune Miku is just the vocaloid he used, it'd be like saying "Symphony No.5, brought to you by Piano" instead of Beethoven.
She was the first vocaloid yes, but that basically just means she was the first voice bank. All her producers are the actual artists who use that to make the songs, all usually disconnected! And while the company behind the voicebank hired people to make some songs (once the scene had kicked off and it became much more than a kinda gimmick toy) and bought some pre-existing songs to use in the shows and games, it was a bunch of independent artists experimenting with and using it that really grew vocaloid into the scene it was/is!
So when you do these songs in future do try to shout out the actual artists!

Vocaloids are voicebanks that run on the vocaloid synthesizer software. So anyone who can afford the software can make a vocaloid song. There are more then 70 different voicebanks. A voicebank is made from a person going through the Phoneme (vocaloid phonetics) list the vocaloid understands. The basics to make a vocaloid sing you start by choose a pitch and length then set the Phonemes then you can set the note properties. That gets you your first word.

a vocaloid is a voice bank, the producer of the song is actually a man named wowaka! think of the vocaloid more like an instrument :) each vocaloid uses a different person's vocal samples to simulate a real voice, which is why some songs use miku, others use the kagamines, others use luka, etc. they all sound different! I just want to say that none of what I'm going to say is your fault, but needs to be addressed. It was incredibly disrespectful to hear the "by Hatsune Miku". Vocaloid songs have producers and they must be credited. The creator of this song is Wowaka. I find it very very saddening that he died with his last 2 vocaloid songs about not being recognized, and even now it's as if Unhappy Refrain and Unknown Mother Goose had no effect. @VampyBlood17 2 года назад +11

I’m sure ppl have already said these things in the comments but
    A. Hatsune Miku is basically a software so when giving credit to vocaloid songs, most give credit to the producers who made the song, which in this case would be Wowaka (a very well known producer who passed a couple years ago)
    And
    B. Vtubers are actually real people with virtual avatars used to protect their identities or just be a cute model to look at as opposed to an irl person. A vocaloid is essentially a software program, although they are made by sampling real people’s voices.
Both have a cute anime girl shells but one is a real human and the other is a program.
    Oh and
    C. You’ve definitely listened/reacted to Miku before, I think the comments have always credited the producers tho.

  • @hanibee8729

Rolling Girl is just the tip of a gigantic iceberg of quality (and of party music and of memes). I really hope he reacts to more! I can't even pin down one song I'd want him to hear over the others. Maybe Arifutera Sekai Seifuku with how wild it is, Love is War for the bass notes, Ghost Rule for the liar/spooky imagery and key changes, or Patchwork Staccato for how the layers of music hit the timing beats so precisely--there's so many more lol But of course this isn't an official ask that David look at these songs--just a heads up that Vocaloid songs hit hard for many different reasons and stretch from simple subjects to complex subjects and back again: "Don't forget to say goodbye when we talk on the phone" to "How a fox became a shooting star" to "omg vegetable juice is the best" to "Party like it's the 1690's!".

The concept behind Vocaloid is simple but genius: get a Sound bank from a singer and create a programm that you can modulate the voice to sound like what you want. Then they made a programm where you can freely move a 3D model (Hatsune Miku was the first one) on a customisable background. And then they put all of this on the internet for free and the rests history.
Soooo...Essentially everyone who wants to create a Vocaloid song can do it plus music video.
And smal trivia: If you ever wonderd for what the term "MMD" stands, which you see often 3D Anime musicvideos. Its stands for "Miku Miku Dance" :D

Sooo I have a request that I think you would really really enjoy! Riot started their Star Guardian event last month and put out two stunning songs, Everything Goes On and a Star Guardian orchestral theme. Both are fantastic and Everything Goes On was done by Porter freaking Robinson!!! I think the orchestral theme was done by him too but I could be wrong, either way it was mindblowingly beautiful and it makes me laugh from sheer awe. So I'd love to see you react to and analyze them both, I think you'd really like it. :) Love the vids, esp the vocaloid ones as a dedicated fan of vocaloid for the last 9 years.

Hatsune Miku it's actually just a voicebank, a computer that u can make her sing your own songs, a character literally EVERYONE can use :D Hatsune Miku is not the creator of the song, it's Wowaka's!! One of the bests and most biggest Vocaloid producer and compositor, saddly he died in 2019, April, but his legacy it's so strong that his music's still listening, and make u feel so much emotions and feelings.
Listen to Wowaka's songs it's just MAGIC, i really recommend Unknown Mother-Goose, Unhappy refrain, two-faced lovers (my fav one) and World Ends Dancehall
His music has that particularity of portraying real human issues and u can relate to them. I actually feel so relate to Rolling Girl.

So along with my usual request of "God Shattering Star (Rain)" from Fire Emblem Three Houses, I'm gonna suggest some songs from a niche underwater exploration game ABZÛ by composer Austin Wintory (also did Journey and The Pathless) "Delphinus delphis" "Ichthyosaurus communis" or "Their Waters Were Mingled Together" All three have an 'As Noted' video from Austin Wintory himself and I think these would be the best ways to listen to these pieces. Beautiful game with a beautiful soundtrack from a master.

  • @skyefairy3262

Just to give some context, rolling girl is about a girl that is being bullied in school, and the guy represents her depression and her dwindling will to keep going, who keeps telling her she can rest. There is a line where it says “I’ll take your breath away” which is a term for your last breath. And in the end of the video, Mika stops going and rests with her depression finally consuming her.
There are other iterations where the guy represents the person who helps her out from being bullied, but the majority of covers have the ending be the depressing one.

So as for the story of this song you aren’t far off. It is intentionally left somewhat ambiguous to exactly what goes on, but it’s Miku being under intense emotional distress. She feels alone, that there’s no one there for her. Even if it’s a blatant lie, she’ll tell people “I’m fine.” But she goes day after day through life hoping things will improve.
Things are left to interpretation, and one can easily see the ending as either happy or sad. Could be a friend holding her and telling her everything is okay and she will be fine. Could be a personification of her bad emotions telling her to give up, stop rolling on to the next day.

The best way I can think to explain it is Hatsune Miku and the other Vocaloids are like Barbie in the Barbie movies: they're all fictional characters but they are the same character who are cast in different roles in the songs they sing. Sometimes Miku's a school girl. Sometimes she's a factory tyrant, an alien, or Cinderella. It all comes with the territory when you're an adorable personified voice box in PC music software.

Some picks I have for music to listen to, doesn't have to be all at once:
A list dedicated to "Re Creators" openings, there are two of them. And the ost's it has, the music they play in the show. All are amazing songs by themselves.
    Opening 1: ruclips.net/video/nGDFBqTZ_LY/видео.html
    Opening 2: ruclips.net/video/ecF9P92Mcxs/видео.html
    Layers: ruclips.net/video/I-O9yMcUAqE/видео.html
    Here I am: ruclips.net/video/WNzVhXpYMqY/видео.html
    Brave the Ocean: ruclips.net/video/UmMpSQAXgCw/видео.html
    AbyssWaltz: ruclips.net/video/3KMp_BHAv8w/видео.html
This series is so under appreciated, the music can all have its own album with how good they are. Hope you see this.

If you haven't seen it already, would you be against reacting to Note Block Universe - Animation vs Minecraft ep 29 by Alan Becker?
It's part of an ongoing animated series with some spoilers for previous episodes, but it's one episode that's entirely directed by song, and it seems like a good video for musicians to analyze, if not being distracted by the quality of the music or by alan's animations.
There are five songs in the video, which are also available to listen to separately if desired.
