my name is Aditi, and I can relate to the first girl (her name is also Aditi). I've always hated my complexion. my mother is very fair, but my dad is a bit dark-skinned. whenever I'm out in public with my mother, people often mistake me for her "friend's daughter" or "Neighbour's daughter". My father always told me he wished I looked like my mother. Because of this, I grew so insecure to the extent that I did everything and anything to get rid of my "ugly, black skin". And like the second girl I used to be extremely insecure about my weight. I used to starve myself for 4-5 days and refuse to eat anything. I was 6 when that happened. SIX. I am gradually learning to love myself for just the way I am. If any parent is reading this, I ask you not to shame your child for things which they are born with or cannot control, instead teach them to love their flaws and embrace them because those flaws are what makes them unique. FYI being dark-skinned, chubby, having curly hair or having acne is NOT ugly. they are beautiful qualities which make a person who they are. Thank you so much dove for making this
Dear there is nothing as fact when it comes to beauty it’s very subjective, we find someone beautiful not that they are beautiful, we find them so if we have love filled hearts, if we find someone ugly it’s because of hatred ! Especially when you realise that, it's not YOU that's ugly...but those people are, and the fact they're ugly at that thing which matters the most. And when you realise that these people are so so so unhappy with their own lives to try to make other people "faulty" for something like their looks... These people are not even aware of what they say or do, because a mentally stable person cannot hate the way they do. Which is why I don't even take anything that those audacious people say to me or anyone else into consideration, now you wouldn't pay attention to what an unstable person says would you?

Now, even though I don't call em friends any more I do sometimes talk to them or joke around a bit but not more than that. I had set some boundaries and they too moved away from me, one thing was for sure that I was never really a friend to them, just a fun classmate to hang around.

No joke, every single thing (except from the glasses, though I have many friends with the same experience) that happened in this advertisement happened to me. Though I live in America, I have Indian parents. I have pretty dark skin, and my mom always tries everything to make it brighter and lighter. The yellow paste, the "tuck in your stomach", it all happens on a daily basis. I also have curly hair, but because of the way my mom brought me up, I now brush it out myself every morning without second thought. Of course, she says "It's all for your health", and sometimes I agree. But she's talking about my physical health; what about my mental health? So, I just want to say, the person who brought up this idea, the people who agreed with it, and the people who executed this all deserve the biggest award for bringing the reason for Indian girls' insecurities to light. Thank you so much.
That is fine. An individual wanting smooth, clear skin is fine as long as they do not discriminate against others who do not meet such standards. It's just addressing an issue, which is perfectly fine.
As a kid &teenager I was also affected by this beauty standard. And the thing which traumatised me the most was taunts of my own family members. But now I accepted myself ❤ so nobody dare to speak anything bad about me.
Very nice thought.. also it would be nice if dove encourages women with dark skin, pimples or any scars on their face and being portrayed as beautiful.. after all, all the ads portray women with fair skin, with no pimples as being beautiful. They have lot of influence on our society. This ad reaches very few audience unlike the telivision ads

Society has often placed greater emphasis on a woman's physical appearance rather than valuing her intellect and character. It’s important for us to shift this perspective and recognize that a person's true worth lies not in how they look, but in their thoughts, abilities, and inner strength.
This is 1 year old. I got this recommended today. And I'm glad that this is recommended to me. Dove company has done a very great job making this ad. Every girl was so pretty but this society will never agree on that. I actually teared up watching this

Being from South Asia, I grew up knowing that whiter skin was “better”. It’s so ridiculous and ironic to me that even grown ass adults are so down bad for changing a skin tone. The girls in this ad are so beautiful.
Really appreciate this . This is the dark reality which everyone knows yet no one points out. One suffers so much that just mention of that particular thing inflicts a pain. Ruined self esteem does you greater damage than everything and anyone. You yourself start degrading yourself and start looking at yourself from other eyes. Do people feel beautiful by pointing out at others?
It's wonderful. I've suffered so much in my childhood, adolescence and youth because of this nonsense mindset of our soulless society. My situation was the worst in the sense that my own biological mother used to feel like she was a beauty queen (she still feels the same, I guess) romantic heroine and left us (my father and I) when I was only 12. She left with her ex-boyfriend and then the rest of her entire life can be divided into her selfish (she hardly ever sacrificed anything for me) work life or career and romanticism mostly. I was in touch with her but that worsened my life. I'm one of the worst victims of this impure outer beauty and sick romanticism of an impurely beautiful lady, my own (biological) mother. My mother's outer beauty, devoid of inner purity made my life so ugly in so many ways. Another extra torture of being her daughter was to bear with the comparisons made by the society which hardly ever provided the space to manifest and express my inner beauty from within. Now I'm a socially withdrawn individual to a great extent and I give a damn to this outer beauty and pray for an ugly mother with a pure soul so that I receive true love in my next life. Now, I've taken refuge in Spirituality to get rid of the trauma of my biological mother's romantically adventurous life that ruined me in so many ways and I feel the Divine Mother as my mother. Thank God that I'm not beautiful. That's why I could see the hidden, unseen deeper truths of life and reality. And I'm thankful and grateful to the Divine for the same. Thank you Dove for creating such a meaningful advertisement. After a long time, I'm feeling some deeper truths of our collective existence on earth. Thank you.
Incredible message by dove 🕊 every girl is beautiful in her own way . No girl needs to be fit in that so called societal beauty standards. Just be confident and have a kind heart that's enough

Kudos to Dove and their whole team for coming up with such an idea to point out the corruption in our society. It was beautifully executed. But I'd say In today's world, everyone has to go through this beauty standard test at some point in their lives regardless of their gender.
I cried watching this. Its like the only reason for my being is to please some man in the future. You wont believe the comments ive received from family. Ive been told that men like big waist so i need to gain weight. They dont like glasses. They don't like short hair. They dont like loud girls. They dont like girls that wish to enjoy freedom. They dont like girls having opinions. Get a good work from home job, bcs some men dont like their wife working outside. I am constantly berated about my choice of clothes, my curly hair, be natural beauty, but be a beauty. I want to run away somewhere where no one will judge me and care about me, bcs apparently abusing me is what they call love and care!
After Eid, I thought I looked so gorgeous and had a glow up. Then suddenly one of my friends said, "You have grown quite round and cheeky!" [ In a fun way or whatever] My self confidence broke down. Once my elder cousin told my mom that Chachi, her lips are quite darker. Use lime to brighten it up. Since then I started to have insecurities even for my lips. All these and others made me such a envious person of these beauty standards made by humans of centered brains! Hai, now I can't even love myself sometimes.
What a beautiful ad! Loved it so much that by end I was in tears...tears of sadness and tears of joy!!! Whoever was behind this beautiful creation....hatsoff to them.

"Yes she has skin but not so beautiful" My dear beauty is independent of skin colour. Adriana lima is beautiful in all shades. Doesn't matter if she tans her skin or white washes. Look at her in different shades. She's equally beautiful. It's all about her facial features. Look at aishwarya Rai in "dhoom 2" And then in "devdas" She looks stunning in both of them. Again it's because of her features.
I'm literally crying, currently I'm 22 and my dad is thinking how to get me married soon, where's I aspire to be someone who can bring food to their table and take care of them till their last breath, ironic right? Yes, I was a late bloomer (got my periods when I was 16, i was so scared lol; well the amount of body shaming I went through in my family and school most likely caused that fear), a dark toned skinny girl who infact still hasn't changed much since her teenage phase, but one thing is that I learned to put my glasses back in their place just like the girl in the last scene did. No, I still haven't gotten over my insecurities regarding my skin tone or figure but I've learned to look past them to a better future where I could live in peace without sticking to this so-called beauty standards of society. It was a really beautiful message and the girls as portrayed in this ad around 11-14 are extremely fragile and needs extra care and better understanding. Glad Dove is preaching such inspiring message through these beautiful angels.
These things have become so common in our society that it has been reaped into our fabric. And unfortunately opposing such things would make our generation mannerless.
Dove once came to our school with two massive whiteboards. The staff told us to write what we love about ourselves and our besties in those whiteboards and I kid you not, all girls participated. @@kool_cj380 because, dove itself is a beauty products producer... every indian parents love their children as the way they are... everybody who are nodding the heads for this are just dumb. they are literally not using their brains no one says that their parents love them unconditionally every body is nodding their heads for this stupid ad ideology
my name is Aditi, and I can relate to the first girl (her name is also Aditi).
Just love yourself you will find yourself the most beautiful love the world around you to find everyone in it beautiful! So much of love and hugs! So many tried to put me down I rose I face them with smile letting them know that I understand their sick mind!

But, I fking was humiliated by the people who were supposed to be my comfort zone so from that day onwards I casually drifting away from them and after some point I wouldn't even sit or talk with them.

Dove making this ad but behind the scene it's parent company HUL made Fair and Lovely !! Wow what an irony
Thank you.

They had to bring one more board even. I still remember that day. I wrote that I love my hair and my bestie's hazel eyes.
