I kind of like for a weird personal person. My family emigrated from Canada to Scotland in 1982 and we stopped over in L.A for a while. I remember my Dad trying to rent a car in a very warm humid night at 1 AM, and the car rental place was playing the radio and I heard what sounded to me like a very slinky, funky tune, which sounded quite catchy to me. It was only when I got Hot Space on cassette a few years later that I realized it was Body Language I heard that night. So I get a weird nostalgia for that night in L.A when I hear the song! But apart from the nostalgia I do like it, although I'm not normally a fan of funky music.
There was a time in American radio after the movie Saturday Night Fever, where much of popular music was called “disco.” What had been rock and roll radio stations flipped their programming to Donna Summer, Kool and the Gang, The Bee Gees, and others. Queen did their own thing. Without synthesizers. In 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981. (Yeah, synthesizers were used in a few places) Then in 1982 comes Hot Space which has a large dose of dance music, that was done the Queen way using Queen’s artistry and more importantly, with Queen lyrics. Any long term Queen fan knows that their lyrics tell excellent stories. And for whatever reason, (maybe the payola was insufficient, or maybe they thought dance music was yesterday’s) but the American radio disc jockeys hated it. And it didn’t get played. And it didn’t sell. My first wife and I had third row seats in Memphis Tennessee on Wednesday night, August 25, 1982, and on the 23rd, the show got canceled because of poor ticket sales. But who can deny that Staying Power is an excellent song?
Cool lyric video and iive how it ends with John's image with the blue background -- John looks really good in that color. I love how Queen wasn't afraid of any genre. #bestrockband ❤
Were you here in 1982? It was the most disappointing Queen album on first play, with no trademark vocal or guitar harmonies. The album sleeve was the worst too.
@@barrymitchell6444 I was here in 1982 and I loved Queen's unwritten motto " expect the unxpected" and that they were the most adventurous band of them all. Shame so many rock fans are so strict and conservative in their approach to music. Their loss
@@peaceofiona9198 Hot Space grew on me later. I'm a former musician in a pseudonym, very open to varied music, and the last to be strict or conservative with rules. I had no problem with their other albums, including ballads. Prenter had much to do with this type of album coming out at the time, being a huge influence on Mercury, which all of Queen later said they regretted. So even Queen referred to Hot Space as being their worst album.
This groove is just amazing. Freddie was an incredible creative force, but Roger Taylor and John Deacon are the ones that really breath life into this song.
Learned to love this song after many listenings!! 😀 Recently, it was featured on Dancing With The Stars: Queen Night! JoJo Sewa & her partner danced to it during the Jazz portion! FYI- JoJo is a massive Freddie Fan!! Aren’t we all 😆👨🏻 Love Freddie’s body language!! 😜
Freddie’s voice is great, and the instrumentals are excellent, but this is definitely near the bottom of my Queen songs list. And I share a birthday with it (except 24 years after its release)
Michael Jackson was very impressed with the sound of this album, so when the Thriller album was released later in 1982, you'll feel its influence. So in a way Billie Jean was a sequel to Body Language...=)
i love this song. it's so dirty. it's got a nice bass groove. plus, i love the fact that it would get some appreciation later on from NIN and the foo fighters as the latter used it as a great promotional bit for their upcoming tour.
I don't consider this Queen's worst song. But the album had no Queen trademark vocal and guitar harmonies, and we weren't used to synths and drum machines.
Love it or hate it, you gotta admit, it’s got a nice groove to it. Can’t believe it’s been 42 years since it was released!
I love the bass in this song!
@@trentoninnewjersey me too!

It's a great piece of pop, just a bit jarring as a Queen song
The sensual music is impressive!
Queen can do anything!
FREDDIE'S VOICE IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL. AMAZING!!!.😎🔥
A No. 11 Billboard hit in 1982. Great, underrated track.
I love this song ,this is Freddie 100%!
Hot Space is great, works well during workout😁👌
Yes, I always thought it was a very underappreciated album. I listened to it a lot in the car back in the 80s.
Queen with Freddie was way before their time.

The thing I love the most about this song is its somewhat unusual beats, melodies, and composition.
such a underrated song , love the hot space album
And there you have it folks . Didn’t have to wait long for the cliched ‘underrated’ comment.
"Look at meeee eee. I gotta case of body language." 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Best bass line ever after Dragon Attack ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wow......this is unique, and still showcases their individuality. ❤
Queen is such a great band that even their "worst song" still had good aspects.
I’m probably one of the few Queen fans that will forever love the entire Hot Space album 😌
I love hot space
Hot Space Let's Go !

i love the experimental popart style! smooth and seamless
Never ever. It should be on Freddie solo release.
#11 Queen Body Language on Billboard top 40 June 26, 1982
John Deacon wasn’t on this,
but he did appear in the music video.
Freddie played a synth bass.
This groove is just amazing. Freddie was an incredible creative force, but Roger Taylor and John Deacon are the ones that really breath life into this song.
Es un bajo sintetizado rítmico. Brian May sólo aporta al final. 👑🎤🎸🎸🥁
Actually it has only synth bass by Freddie (source: Queenpedia)
@@infiniticz si. Es verdad
This was a great video. Long live queen. 🎉
Hot Space is a fantastic album!
I love putting on my 4 inch platforms and dancing to this! 💃🏼 Great 80s!
I was in 7th grade when this came out and we would all dance around to it in class!

I love you.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. 👑. Queen 👑.
And the artist of the group can sing too! Loving this video!!!
My favorite song off the album.
The start of Video jukeboxes in pubs in uk. Had to put this on everytime. Then go to see them at Ellend rd for hot space tour. Amazing gig. ❤
I really love this song
GRANDE FREDDIE 👑 ❤❤❤❤❤❤
