ECW had so many big blows all in the span of a single year.
Talent leaving. Distributors not paying. TNN tossing them off.
There simply was no money backing them, like TNA had. I think ECW could have survived if it happened 5 years in the future, because they would have had a huge online presence

When I discovered ECW, I instantly became a fan. It was the best. New Jack was my favorite.

I just finished the rise and fall doc from 2004 and I’m hearing Paul say how the company went broke bc they had to pay larger expenses to accommodate TNN’s production requirements and my question is what exactly did the ECW/TNN deal give you guys if you had to cover the larger production expenses out of your own pocket rather than TNN’s ? Was the deal just to get you on TV and the company (ECW) ended up going broke bc of the lack of advertisement money?

I remembered ECW being on TNN when I first moved to Fl. Being from Philly and watching it and going to the shows I really missed it. But when I got a chance to watch it on TNN it just was not the same.

Seeing ECW on TNN when I was a kid is where I first got introduce to ECW back in 1999. I did not know about ECW until watching the show on that channel.

I remember first hearing about ECW in the mid to late 1990's. I lived in Louisiana at the time and I could only learn anything about ECW was by reading Pro Wrestling Illustrated or World of Wrestling magazine. I do remember seeing an ad for tape trading for ECW in World of Wrestling magazine. A friend of mine would watch ECW Hardcore TV every week because he had satellite and would tell he how awesome it was. I remember watching the first ECW show on TNN and I thought it was better than WWF and WCW. Fast forward 15 years later and I purchased all the ECW House Shows from 1996, 1997, 1998, and part of 1999 and I watch ECW Hardcore TV on WWE Network (Only reason I purchase it was for ECW and vintage wrestling from 1980's). I just wish Social Media like today was around in the 1990's and I believe ECW would have beaten both WWF and WCW.

Hey Queen of Extreme! It seems like you actually read the comments (which is really nice of you), so I thought I might make a suggestion for a topic. Were you present when that piece of sh*t in the crowd interrupted the ten-bell salute for Rick Rude and was ejected from the building? If so, I think that would be a good story to tell if you haven't already.
Thanks for your stories and all the hard work you put in for us fans!

I always remember the TNN move when I glance my ECW Magazines. An odd choice for a network but Heyman just needed a platform to go with. I remember the Thrill Zone with ECW and roller jam.

I watched more hardcore TV on MSG channel at midnight on Saturdays than I ever did on TNN. In 1995 when WWF was absolute crap and WCW wasnt hot yet finding ECW was absolutely incredible and SO DIFFERENT for 13 yo me I became instantly hooked. I couldnt even tell you the night or time for the TNN shows

5:12 Yeah but, I remember reading an old Lancelot Storm commentary once, where he was talking about ECW either being scheduled to air on, or advertising at around the time that The Dukes of Hazard was on!! So I think that if nothing else, it would've been worth ECW being on TNN, just for the chance to get Catherine Bach as a fan, since Lancelot strongly suspected she was one of the only people still watching those Dukes of Hazard re-runs!!!!!

I lived in eastern Pennsylvania, started watching in 94 or 95 on that whacky sports channel and then later on GT48 Philadelphia, when ECW went to Spike and everyone recognizable left it was hard to watch.
One thing was, the dark gritty look just didn’t work in the pre HD tv era.
I honestly thought ECW and HBO would’ve worked even back then, you guys had such good content, if some of the main guys would’ve stayed, man. Sorry for the long story

The only good thing about theTNN deal was i was in Canada and could finally get ECW .Only bad side was it was on Friday and had to work . I ended up taping it so i could watch it when i got home from work . Honestly was happy to see it but the guys that made me a fan of ECW were rarely shown . Plus a few matches that were advertised to be on the show never got shown due to being too violent . 1 match was put on the Extreme Evolution home video and another saw a RF Video fancam version of it . Plus you guys did a show in Canada which i went to . Spent 500 bucks on RF Video Tapes and ECW T Shirts . 1 i gave to a coworker for covering my shift so i could go to the show. Suckex that TNN had no clue with what to do with you plus getting stuck between Rollerjam and Rockin Bowl .Honestly when i heard about the deal i kinda laughed because TNN was country music and teruns of Dukes Of Hazard and ECW was the complete opposite of that . Heymans shoot promo on TNN was a classic . The Gertners promo after it then Heyman sayin ARE YOU TO THROW US OFF THE AIR YET . PIG Frs had me in stitches i was laughing so hard . Too bad that you guys never got another tv deal . Think you guys would given the competition a run for its money . Wont mention the WWE reforming of ECW . That was sad to say the least .

I've heard a lot of blame going to TNN and that is true. I might get "heat" for this but ECW' biggest issue is they had a snake named Heyman running the ship, he had little business sense and not an honest bone in his body.

I think ECW's downfall is when they stopped properly kerning their fonts. Bal Smohoney would have gotten over if the labels were more legible, people kept calling him BALLS, Bal or Baal is an honorific in some languages, sometimes even the name of a high deity, doesn't get more edgy than that.

@@TheQueenofExtremeFrancineECW i was listening for most of it, but the part about tnn using your company as an experiment until they could sign a long term deal with wwf/e only months later, that seems like someone I hear about in the news when anti-trust lawsuits pop up.
I'm no lawyer and I only play as a Video DJ on tv but usually shows that get that first year deal are given that, while the longer contracts are being drafted, it's a strange anomaly that unfortunately you and your prior co-workers were put in the middle of and only some got the good end of deal later on in life.
ECW could have totally survived if the people running it actually really knew what they had, if only they had a few more boring and straight edge people handling the paperwork and not giving that job to the people focusing all their work on how high they can jump for a living.
After a certain point every troupe, company or band needs to invite calmness to allow the chaos to thrive in constructive ways and not be all there is to live off of, ya know?
