Oh! Your line work is so interesting and I love the subtlety of the graphite on the toned paper. Really lovely. I'm continually inspired by your style.
I think graphite, whether it's a regular pencil or soluble, is an amazing medium. I love the color that it has, it is incredibly useful and so very versatile. I use it to do my basic sketches, but I also love using it as the main medium, on it's own or in combination with other media. I love using graphite in combination with colored pencil, and I also love it in combination with watercolor, watercolor pencils, and the such. I find that paintings can look really good when the pencil outlines and scribbles are visible through the color, and I also find that soluble graphite mixes so good with watercolors. I like using my soluble graphite (just plain, not tinted) and mixing it with watercolors. It makes for lovely mixes, and the possibilities are endless. The soluble graphite pencils that I currently have and use are by Faber Castell and Koh-i-Noor, and they are both great. I must say though that for mixing with waterolor, I find the woodless Koh-i-Noor one particularly useful, as it's good for swiping off with a brush. Now as for your question, yes, I absolutely do also use products that are not artist grade products. The number one criteria that I base my product choices on is whether or not I like what the product does, and there are quite a few products that one would consider student grade, that I very much like to use. There are so many very very decent student grade products available today, particularly when it comes to watercolors, but also with gouache or colored pencils, watercolor pencils, pastels, and so on, I see absolutely no reason not to use them. Yes, some of them are not lightfast, but not everything always needs to be lightfast, because as with most artists, only a fraction of what I produce ends up displayed as an original. And when I do know that this will be the case, then I choose my supplies accordingly. Any other time, I just use what I feel like right at that moment.
I have been looking for a video of someone actually using these Graphitint for a few days. Thank you for not simply swatching them. Beautiful work! New sub! 🤩
Super beautifull on the coffee colour paper. I really adore the Derwent graphite products just because they look so natural. Your painting confirms my idea 😁. Just have to buy the sketchbook 🙏. Thanks again Irit, I really enjoyed the video.💖
I love the heartbeat with your favorite palomino pencil.😂 I might have to try one. The graphitint really looks lovely on the toned paper. I don’t use mine much either but I kind of love them.🤷♀️ Maybe choose colors that you love with your craft products and play. I love smooshing my distress oxide inks on watercolor paper for backgrounds and sketching on top. Thanks for this fun, relaxing play with graphite.
I found myself using one of the Faber-Castell HB pencils a lot lately. Sometimes in combination with Polychromos or just a drawing with Polychromos. I'm also happy with the small pencil collection that I have. The monochromatic drawings are back at the moment... but colorful.
I haven't experimented with graphite yet. Not sure I will rush to buy any. Still having fun with watercolor and wax resist with the neocolor i. Your nail polish is so pretty in this video. Reminds me of a color that might be in your "Dusty Hazy Summer" palette. Thank you Irit - you alway brighten our days!
Thanks Hadas! I usually prefer softer pencils, but I admit I didn't really pay attention in this case as I was superficial and went for the pretty ones 😜 I do like the white one, I've used that one the most so far.
Great video and review I'm a sketcher but have been water coloring and learning for three years and I like to merge them....I learned so much I bought alot of granulated daniel smith paints before I realized I go for that smoky earthy look...do you think the derwent xl blocks are the same color as the graphtintint are??? R they basically the same color or are they different I'd really like to purchase them in the future but I have the graphtint pans and pencils already.. .I'm on a really tight budget so every purchase has to be thought out. Enjoyed your video it helped out alot..I share my internet with my daughter ergo two names lol..mikelle art mom 👩🎨✍🎨
If you have the pans I wouldn't get the blocks unless you really want to use them dry. The pencils are very similar if not identical in formula but just the sheer size and format create a totally different experience and possibilities. The blocks are for working big and messy. Hope that helps!
Hello Irit... a very thorough presentation ... thankyou.... I like my mechanical pencil for initial sketch and then rubbing out after I've gone over lines with ink... but if I'm working on a "freestyle" painting (eg floral) I like to use my wooden graphite pencils to give that bit of detail. I'm not fussed on the woodless pencils. I can't get the intensity of graphite... although you managed it with the Cretacolor.... The Staedler Mars Lumograph are my favourite though... Blackwing Pencils are hard to find here... some bookstores have them as loose stock... I bought one the other week, but I've yet to use it... take care...
I have the Graphitint pan set and it's lovely to work with but those colors don't work for me atm. Although I do love muted colors....but there is no pink in it. Maybe I should give the set another try and add dusk pink to it? And: I'm currently in love with colored pencils which....unfortunately there are so many tempting art supplies🤭
Haha I know... Never ends!! Yeah absolutely, throw some dusk pink into the mix or maybe even a bright pink that can be toned down with any of the graph tint pans 😃
If you sharpen the 5.6mm lead, using a common pencil sharpener,it becomes the most versatile pencil out there! Kohinoor's Russet Sepia (Red chalk) and their Sepia and Dark Sepia leads, are the best sketcing supplies I ever dreamed of! Pentel Graphgear 1000 sucks in both precision and control and its also unriable (breaks in 2 easily.tip wobbles etc) The Best pemncil is the pentel Graphgear 500 in 0.5mm. Best performance compared to any pencil and very reliable..Best drawing pencil you can get. The opposite to the overrated Graphgear 1000.
I have twelve of the Graph Gear 1000 pencils, four 0.5, four 0.7, and four 0.9. I keep HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B in each size. I do the same with the cheaper Pentel P200 series mechanical pencils. I tend to use the 1000- pencils at home, and the P200 series when I go out in the field, whether it's just to the park, or camping way out in the deep woods. I probably have sixty or seventy other mechanical pencils, ranging from ones that cost fifty cents, to ones that cost eight or nine dollars, and three that cost in the mid-twenty-dollar range. I also, of course, have more woodcase pencils of every brand and lead type than I have room for. It's way past time to unload the unused mechanical pencils, and the woodcase pencils I don't like. Plus, sketchbooks I don't like, notebooks I can't use, on and on. Fortunately, I have a bunch of grandkids who are all in school, and about once a year I give them all the unused stuff I've collected. Having so many grandkids sort of gives me permission to buy all the junk out there. I can tell myself that if I don't like it, they will. I would buy Blackwing pencils, but I often go through ten woodcase pencils in a day, and that gets ridiculously expensive, even with something like Derwent, let along Blackwing. . And, honestly, while I think Blackwing pencils are beautiful, I'm not impressed with the lead they use. It's good, but it's no better than several brands of far cheaper pencils I use. Ten pencils in a day is the biggest reason I started using mechanical pencils and lead holders. A few years ago, I broke down and bought twelve gross of pencils at one time. That's 1,728 pencils. Even with all the other media I was using, and long breaks without using a woodcase pencil at all, I went through them in a year. The funny thing is that with all the woodcase and mechanical pencils I have now, I 've been using almost nothing except half inch square graphite sticks for the last three months. I love the square sticks because I can get at least five line widths from the same stick, from very sharp and narrow, all the way up to half an inch wide, and shading is very nice. I can also use the entire side of the stick and get an equal layer of graphite that's four inches wide. Or cover an entire sheet quickly.
I found a couple Palimino pencils open stock and bought a couple. Honestly I couldn’t figure out the hype lol. But then again, I’m not a pencil expert.
I love the graphitint colors!

Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
I just love how you can make anything into gorgeous watercolor! Wow!
Thank you very much!

@@iritlandgraf you're welcome
The sketch came out lovely, love those graphitint.
Which firmness of blackwing pencils do you prefer?

I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have you done a coloured pencil video yet? I'd be interested in that!
Thanks Jaime! I haven't and not sure I will because I use colored pencils all the time so they are never neglected 😃
@@iritlandgraf fair enough 🤣

It would have been helpful for you to hold still long enough so we can read the labels of the products you hold up.
Which ones did you miss? If you write the time stamp i can help. I also try to write all supplies in the video info section.
