I hear you but it really depends on the genre. If you're writing a motivational indie rock then major keys are the bread and butter and nobody need to be scared from them. The challenge is when you use a major key to make a hopeful soaring mood out of it like in this piece. In this case, major modes (not root keys) serve me well, especially the lydian and mixolydian.
