Depends on your gear ratio, most of the saltwater reels I use are at most 5.1, if they aren't pulling drag, I'm gaining line reeling down or up. They are all conventional too. The only thing I use a spinning reel for is bfs.
I have fished the old train bridge next to the 7 mile so many times! Lived on Big Pine Key and Cudjoe Key for many years as a commercial lobster and stone crab fisherman. I hate Florida but love the lower Keys! It’s very different than the rest of the state.
I’m grateful my Father taught me how to fish. Grew up in FL fishing since I was two. Fishing anywhere is fun, but there’s no fishing like saltwater fishing in Florida.
These are basic mechanics of a spinning reel Big or small they will twist the line if you reel against the drag Baitcasters woill just slip and the line won’t twist like the spinning reels will
Lol. Back in the day there was this Commercial Tuna Fishing DVD with This Obese Dude Named Dan Somthing, as the host. And Kid me learn Everything From that DVD from Knots to Fight BIG fish. Which is funny i only ever fish fresh water.
@@yooyo8303good way to exceed the line strength and break. We buy super expensive reels with incredible drag systems. If you don't set your drag correctly to a quarter or a third of the line strength you might as well be fishing $20 reels.
@yooyo8303 toucan break off easily. Drag is there to allow the fish to take line but it takes effort. So wears him down. If you're not allowing the drag to work you're gonna snap the line.
Your drags not set right then you should be able to lift up on the fish with maybe a click or two of drag going out and reel down and then if the fish takes off he pulls drag not hard to figure out
If your drag is set right you palm the reel? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, only in very specific situations would you ever want to palm the reel. The reel already has a built in palm, it's called the DRAG, so set it properly to where you don't have to use your palm and risk breaking off a fish when you don't need to
Never grab the spool that's how you snap your line on a big fish he's got the drag set right you want the fish to be able to take some drag but not too much do you want to be able to tire that fish out with the drag independent flexibility with your rod that's where the pump and reeling comes into play and when that fish wants to run you let him run don't Tighten Up Your Dragon do not grab that spool
Ah yes and fish takes a turn and breaks your line while your got your hand on the bail. Done this multiple times just fishing regular freshwater fish. Fight the fish with proper line and gear. Unless you wanna lose fish all day by all means fish with 2 pound test on the ocean.
You're not a real fisherman if you grabbed the spool you cannot control the pressure that will snap the line easier that's what drag is for you don't have loose drag and grabbed onto the spool😂
Now this is how a pro sets a hook. He didn’t try and rip its head off.
Circle hook is a different beast
Ya sure, he also cut out probably the only important part to this video.
depends on the fishing. In bass fishing you blister that fish, set the hook like you mean it or you might as well go home
Palm the spool? Great advice 👍🤣
😅

fishing charters for the most part are usually a lot of instruction for most people. left alone, they'd catch close to nothing and loose many hooked.
Great lesson...thank you for making this to be able to see it in action
Don't take his advice at all never Palm your spool great way to lose fish
The fish ain’t gonna come off the circle hook lol you can palm all you want
Great info!
What do you think would be the best middle of the road setup for spinning reel size, rod length and action and line.

It's called pump and reel.
Very poor advice. Never palm your reel, there's a drag for a reason. Set it right and let the drag do what it's supposed to do.
Why wouldn’t you palm it?

Your line is not steal it will break the drag is so your line doesn't break but also tiring out the fish @@yooyo8303
@@yooyo8303because not everyone knows how and if the drag is actually set properly you can lift up and reel down

Exactly! Ive seen a couple reels get their gears shredded from that kind of abuse
And snap
You got the right upside down you're supposed to have the Reel up at the top and reel backwards. LOL😂
Don’t matter if it’s freshwater or saltwater is hard to listen and watch someone continuously cracking on the reel when the drag is screaming
“Don’t horse em in”*

If I see a person reeling left-handed and they aren't left-handed, it tells me everything I need to know.
Pray tell who taught you that? Most anglers are taught to cast with right hand and reel with left on a spinning rod. And vice versa on casting.
@sstrongman1667 Back in the 1900s, we were taught the correct way.
@@Land_Raver that’s funny because I was too

If u don't know how to work the rod, don't palm your spool.
Common sense
