There is some kind of cultural border between Estonia and Latvia - Estonia is (and historically was) connected with Finland and Sweden. All mental traits (personal room, avoiding small talk etc) are common - Norwegian person may find all very similar with Estonia. And we have quite much snow too here, temperatures to minus 30 C etc.
The three Baltic countries are struggling with the same problem, the population is declining, slowly but steadily. Their Baltic Sea ports are no longer used by Russia and Belarus. All Belarusian ice rink traffic now also goes via Russia to the ports there on the Baltic Sea. Incomes are keeping up with price increases, no longer keeping up. The Balts are also largely dependent on electricity from Russia and Belarus and the contracts are slowly becoming vacant. The Baltic fishing fleet is also in good shape. Exports to the EU are only a fraction of what Russia and Belarus previously sold. Many Balts go to Belarus to stock up on inexpensive basic foodstuffs. The sanctions against Russia and Belarus are now taking their toll, inflation and price increases and a tense economic situation.
