@@shaw9851 You mistake the difference between Discipline & Punishment. If parents instilled good discipline, schools wouldn't need to waste resources on things like detention.
Any time somebody is tempted to ask why teachers are quitting, let me first encourage you to first getting answers to the following questions: 1. How much prep time are teachers actually permitted in a typical school week? 2. How much of the teacher's typical school day is dedicated to completing paperwork? 3. What disciplinary options are made available to the teachers for chronically disruptive, uncooperative, aggressive, and violent students? 4. What percentage of necessary classroom supplies typically have to come out of the teacher's pocket? 5. What percentage of the school curriculum is dedicated to teaching the students how to pass a standardized state test, vs. subject matter? after answering those questions, most of us will find that those who were sincerely asking the question will no longer need to ask it. We will also find that those who still pose the question will reveal that they never did care about the answer, to begin with.
things are looking up with this new Governor hang in there she is fighting for education but it does start at home as parents we need to do a better job
There is no more deserving phenomenon! As far as I am concerned these districts deserve everything they are getting and more! I could write a book on the out and out discrimination that takes place, the bullies, the out and out liers, the huge amount of money out of pocket it costs to be a teacher! Many teachers are dedicated and make a difference in student's lives.....but the bottom line is that in education the students really don't matter....if they did then so many people that care about them wouldn't be driven out. Teaching is like an abusive relationship with a narcissist for a lot of people because you get mixed up with ineffective people in leadership positions.....and for many the wise choice is to walk away.
I'm a substitute teacher and most administration from the schools have been very supportive. The administration from other schools have said, "The kids are not robots". I don't want them to be robots but I would like them to at least be respectful enough to at least whisper instead of disrupting the students who actually want to learn!
Yep my school lacks so many teachers. They hire teachers that don't even know the subject their teaching because they want to fill the spot in because they can't get any teachers. The students at my school get really behind and our test scores are low because we lack teachers.
Piece Of Garbish can’t speak for everywhere. But here in San Fransisco area. It’s currently one of the most expensive places to live in the world and teachers make minimum wage. NOBODY can afford to live here on minimum wage alone. We also have schools being closed because our gov would rather cut funding for public education for more meaningless wars and “walls”. We’re filling up our classrooms beyond capacity hence the larger work loads. And it becomes increasingly difficult to teach a class and make sure every student is understanding the subjects when there are too many students for the teacher to ever get one on one time. There’s a lot more but off the top of my head that’s what I remember going through in high school
What are class sizes at the secondary level in NM? Do not BS with averages bc we all know those numbers are conflated to make it look smaller than they actually are. I want real numbers!!! In California classes size is about 34+ per class for English as well as other core content!!! And for “electives” it can be over 45/class and that includes Spanish which is a language and is required to get into a 4 year university!!!! Deplorable. Also, districts rather bring in much cheaper new hires, even though they know their chance of quitting is much higher than a veteran teacher. They do not care, anything to save a buck. It’s really not about the kids. It’s about making money and “saving” money.

It's a teacher's job to educate, it's not a teacher's job to discipline and raise your children. That's the parents job.
Unfortunately, we have parents that don't want to discipline their kids and wants the world to raise them.
@@robertacanderson
It's practically against the law to discipline your children.
@0din31b Discipline needs to be at home and at school otherwise just discipline only at home would not work .
@Captain Howdy Your comment is invalid. Without discipline children cannot be raised right .

Between the school shootings,and low pay for teachers, and not to mention the piss poor parenting. Homeschooling is the way!!!
I didn't hear them mentioning out of control student behavior as a reason teachers leave. How typical to ignore that.
@SKULL CRUSHER If they had to be the ones to give their children their education, maybe they'd realize how valuable teachers are.
Lack of respect.
Respect is earned... NEVER given.
@Mrs. Newton I stand by my comment. I also believe it's the teachers job to make children eager to learn.
@Mrs. Newton Please retire.
@Captain Howdy Real Classy.

Come on we all know it's the violent kids. Most people quit jobs because of other people.
Look at california. Its only the beginning. Why my teachers left to teach in Colorado.
Shitty pay, underfunded, overworked and dealing with entitled, spoiled brats all day. Can you really blame them?

Lol.... No district deserves it more.

There is a lot a paraeducators they should make a program for para educators became teachers soon
I have a better way of attracting teachers. Pay them more!
So why are they quitting? All I hear was work load and the building is crumbling... So why are the quitting??
