Really easy to fix. Just need to remove the front cover for k50 (make it without attached lens)!

Thank you so much for this video! I have K-30 that started taking pictures so dark you could hardly see anything, even in full sun light. After watching your video I was able to fix it. Your video probably saved me from a several hundred dollar repair!

Thank you so much for this. I bought a used k-30 online and every picture was dark. I thought I just got screwed out of a couple hundred bucks for a broken camera but your instruction solved the problem. Thanks again.

I also want to add my thanks for posting this!! I had ACTUALLY thrown my K30 in the bin when I found this video. I approached it on a fun / throw it away basis (seemed a bit less scary that way!) Really accurate detailed method (with great English :). Camera now working (don't know how long as just finished testing)! Thanks again!!!

My K500 was dead, taking dark pictures. Now it's working again. I use a sandpaper and isopropilic alcohol to clean it, and worked perfectly!

It works! I have a K30 model, so i had to find an extra movie with the cover dissasembly, but the repair itself really works. I am afraid of using WD 40 or other greasystuff inside the camera, i have used the 2500 sand paper. Thanks for sharing your experience and expertise.

Thanks, it was very useful. I "scraped" the little jumper with what I had at home, which is 120 sand paper, for a few minutes, and it's less used than yours but seems to work fine anyway.
But warning: you should be very careful when taking off the front cover, as I broke a little plastic handle for the screw right next to "K50". Well, it doesn't prevent it from working or anything, but I'm a little sad.
Anyway, even with that mishap, I just saved tons of money, hoping it will last!
NB: my K50 was 5 years old, bought it in 2016. Price announced by the repairman was 250€, roughly 300$ (sent to and fixed by Pentax France).

Good fix, I filed the ends of the horseshoe in the way you showed and put it back together. I tried some recipes for cycling the shutter and it worked for a minute but didn't stay fixed. Instead of taping screws to a picture of the camera, I printed out pictures of the camera as I went and poked the screws in holes in the printed picture.

    Fantastic! It worked!
    Thank You, mbs!
Your english is GREAT! Better than the music I saw in other videos related to this K50 issue.
Well, I'm bad! I must admit that In other videos I saw how to disassemble the envolving panels of the machine. In fact, there is an obscure screw, the biggest one of all, that is inside the battery case, which was almost unnoticed.
For years I used this camera to take pictures in manual mode. It has been a dedicated camera to take still shots. Never used P mode nor automatic mode. Only recently I noticed this issue, since I had to compensate the light in an odd way.
After the repair it works like new!
    Great job, mbs!
About WD-40, I DO NOT Recommend it. That is oil, even though it's very thin. In the medium term, it will cause friction on the solenoid, with the consequence of losing the speed of the mechanism. Beter to use Isopropyl Alcohol or Spray electric contacts cleaner.
Some guys use WD-40 to improve the performance of the lens diaphragm. The real risk is to render the lens unusable, as it will have to be disassembled to clean the blades, which lose their speed.
Hey guys, a photographic camera is not a sewing machine! The latter use much more force than photographic cameras to move its mechanisms.

Though I broke off one of the cables from the actuator or what this magnet holder is, so I had to solder it back. I sanded the magnet a little bit more but looks promising.

This other method worked for my camera, they don't like not being used for extended periods and the aperture motor sticks.
1.) Go to the camera menu to button customization and define the raw/FX button to "optical preview".
2.) Use Manual or AV mode and dial in an aperture other than open wide.
3.) Press the raw/FX button 10 to 20 times ( I did so). Every press you should hear the aperture lever working.
4.) Take some shots. At this point my K-30 did correct exposures with some exceptions. So I repeated the procedure until no wrong exposure occurred.
You may have to repeat several times.
    Good luck!!!

Another hack (without opening the camera) to get this fixed. It works for me on my K-30
    1. Go to Menu > keep pressing the right on the 4-way button until you see the "spanner" icon > Go to 3 > Dust Removal > Select both Startup Action and Shutdown Action
    2. Now switch off and ON. You will notice the camera stutters every time you off or on the camera
    3. Go to Home and press the right 4 way key (timer icon) > Choose Continuous Shooting (Lo) and press and holder picture shooter button to continuously shoot pictures
    4. Now choose Continuous Shooting (Hi) and take continuous pictures
By now the aperture would have set and issue resolved. Again works for me.

Maybe need to explain more about the 3 screws under the rubber part and mainly to be careful with the most important and worst placed screws of all, the one for the selenoid, make sure to use a long and slim screwdriver to get a good angle and not wreck the one and only screw. Thanks again. Btw I have the impression that continuous shooting has slowed down a lot. Anybody felt the same?

    Molto interessante.

  • @bigpardner
    @bigpardner 5 лет назад

Could anyone please explain why, if the aperture arm in the camera is not working, the images are dark, under exposed, and not over exposed? When you insert the lens onto the camera the aperture is made to be wide open at it's largest opening, regardless of the lens or lens setting, "A", aperture # other than "A". or newer lens with no aperture ring (same as "A"). So when you take an image the arm in the camera body goes up, either all the way, or a lesser precise travel to control the aperture opening to let the spring in the lens stop the aperture down. Therefore if the camera aperture arm is stuck the lens will remain wide open, not close down all the way to result in a dark image. If the arm was stuck in an up position it would be immediately obvious when you look through a very dim viewfinder, yes? I am completely confused by this issue.

    • @bigpardner
      @bigpardner 5 лет назад

Of course if the aperture control mechanism was stuck it could, and probably would, prevent the mirror from going up and subsequently the shutter from operating. But this would be a complaint of no exposure at all and would be immediately obvious as opposed to underexposed images.
