  • 2009 dodge ram 2500 w/6.7 diesel. Ac compressor would not shut off because of a short in the TIPM. I found a cost effective bypass for the shorted out relay in the TIPM.

Real man of genius. Great solution vs a $400+ replacement.

Brilliant! It Should last as long as the new relay. Thanks for the tip, and damn the tech geeks who design this crap. There was nothing wrong with replaceable relays.

You definitely did the right thing according to all the research I've found...your still using the system as its set up to be just jumping a relay. Seems like the people who install a toggle switch to turn the clutch on and off are creating problems on the high end because their skipping the system...but anyway thanks for the vid. I have the same prob but my signal wire from the ecu is not getting a signal so I'm trying to figure out my next step. I guess trace the wire to see if its broke anywhere if not new ecu or maybe reflash?

I don't know where you can find wiring diagrams for those trucks but that would be a starting point. If you could find where the signal wire comes from the ecm and see if there is a signal there

I appreciate all your information that you gave out for the relay. I’m just wondering if you might help us with one more step our cooling fan will not come on whenever we direct add current to the clutch so it builds pressure on the high side to the point of danger and the cooling fan big cooling fan which is electric driven will not engage and then sometimes when we don’t even have the AC on and it’s not running hot on a cool day here in the Santa Rosa area, it’ll come on for no reason and it’s not hot enough for the engine to turn it on so that Sikkim has probably gotten got control over the big cooling fan and shutting the compressor off when it gets too much pressure in our button on the dashboard is lit, telling us that everything should work Nothings working but I can’t get the AC to work manually energizing it and supplying at a ground for the circuit. Wondering if you might have a comment or two for us on that or if you think that affect him is the way that we should go since we have other issues also. thank you for your reply.!

So there’s always 12v going to the compressor from the new relay and ground signal wire is connected directly from the tipm to the new relay then a wire is connected from the new relay to that other end of the that ground signal? Does that signal wire goes to the compressor? Thanks!

Looking at what he has the relay is nothing more than an electric switch. Then the trucks system via the ground causes the relay coil to close the contact which sends the power to the compressor. Only thing I'm not clear on did he run a separate power wire to the compressor or use the factory wire? This setup shouldn't give any issues

@@jameslocklair7199 I used the factory wire going to the compressor. The only wiring I added was to extend the factory wires in order to put the relay in an out of way place. If you are planning on doing this, you might want to find a pinout diagram for your particular year model tipm

so i have a question about the PRESSURE TRANSDUCER DO YOU KNOW IF STILL WORKING IF YOU CONNECT THE SIGNAL in that way? sorry i just read a lot of cummins forum and i need to do the same thing in my 2500 , i find the signal cable but i have the dude, if the pressure transduceer still working, in one word still working the air conditioner? jaja

Ac still working. For automotive relay Wire signal wire to pin 85, wire pin 30 and 86 with fused power from the battery. Connect the wire that goes to the compressor to pin 87. That should make it work

It is controlled through the factory console. It works in the same manner as it did when it rolled off the line. The only difference is that I bypassed the relay inside the tipm and replaced it with a automotive relay
