Greg Davies's father made sure that his son was born on Welsh soil so that when Greg became a rugby international, he would play for Wales. Fortunately for comedy, Greg showed little talent for rugby, but he retains a sense of connection to his Welsh roots and, two years after his dad's death, wants to know more about them. Greg gets more than he bargained for when he identifies a wayward great-grandfather but is rewarded when the trail leads further back to the deepest Welsh roots anyone could wish for.

So hilarious that Greg Davies has a moment of 'delusions of grandeur' when he hears he's descendant from the first Prince of Wales... only to be brought down quite a few pegs when he finds out that EVERYONE in the pub is descendant from that same 12-century 'royal' (as are most of the people living in the surrounding area).

It's a very rural area with small villages that families stayed in for generations that's why, my gg grandfather was from that area and so I'm told only one of the family to ever leave and he could also in a clear line trace his family back as well. Welsh Family history is important to the Welsh people.

@@ahighlandlegacyboergoats My grandfather was from that area( born in 1889 to give you a timescale ) He went away to sea aged 13, as those small farms could only support a few people. Many men and boys did the same in those times and before, so they travelled far and wide and no doubt plenty settled elsewhere, my grandfather settled in South Wales. This is from the snowdonia heritage website
The captains of Nefyn and their crews would sail to the far corners of the world during this period, in ships built on Nefyn beach. The families were very familiar with Labrador and Bombay, and rounding the Horn was a familiar experience to them

Two of my ancestors actually fought on opposing sides of the same battle in the American Civil War. I always knew the 2 sides of my family would have generally fought against each other in that war, but I had no idea it would be quite so specific.

Well...when you consider with wars - where the rulers family and descendents would be "protected" ...I'm sure those that were being killed ....were the end of their bloodline - so that only leaves the preferred or favored people to be fruitful & multiply.

I am to believe that everybody who has even a drop of English ancestry is related to King Edward III. You may still be a descendant, although that would be incredibly hard to prove too. With the sparcity of records before 1800 even, it's incredibly unlikely, although still possible.

I think it would be really interesting to see if Humor is somehow a genetic gift. even if it's just haveing neurons that snap a little faster in a certain regard. Because I don't know anything about my family beyond grandparents. My sisters and I just attribute our ability to tell hilarious stories to our mum raising us on her own. But we joke that it's genetic. even though we have no evidence of that.
