October 28, 2019 - Guitarist Martin Barre joined the band Jethro Tull on their second album, "Stand Up" from 1968. He was with the group until 2012. Many fans would love a reunion between Tull leader Ian Anderson and the guitarist but that seems unlikely. We asked Anderson if there was a chance for the two to get together again?

John Beaudin has been in major market radio (Edmonton, Vancouver & Calgary) for 35 years and a music journalist since 1989. He graduated from Broadcasting school as a newsman so he would have the skills to write about the artists that inspired him since he bought his first album, “Madman Across The Water” by Elton John as a teen. In the '80s Beaudin was the host of the syndicated radio show “The Cross Canada Report” which had two versions (Rock and A/C). Beaudin was also asked to be a judge at the Juno Awards (Canada's answer to the Grammys) Twice. He has anchored every position in radio including morning and afternoon drive and was a Program and Music Director for The Breeze and California 103 in Calgary. He currently hosts the popular Lovesongs at QM-FM in Vancouver and on iHeartRadio.

Would Barre want to get together again is a better question. I saw Tull at the 25th anniversary show, at SDSU Amphitheater in San Diego. Every time Martin just touched his guitar it would EXPLODE! I'd seen Tull many times over the years, and Barre just kept getting better.
Martin is a wonderful guitarist and person.
Iv'e hung out with him,and he really is a great guy.We talked about their gig at Devonshire Downs back in the seventies and he told me the police hassled him over some ginseng seeds they found on him that they thought were drugs!
Martin Barre gave Jethro Tull its wings and made it fly.

Without Martin Barre it's not Jethro Tull to me. In my opinion he's one of the most underrated guitarists in the world.
Last time I saw JT (5 yr ago) Ian couldn't hit all the vocal notes, pulling the mike away from his mouth, Jethro Tull is finished for me. I'd go see MB though.
Exactly...in the later years, Martin Barre was the one thing that distinguished "Jethro Tull" from "Ian Anderson". Now that he's gone, it's nothing but the Ian Anderson Band to me.

This doesn't become true parroted for the millionth time. Tull was Tull before and after Barre. If everyone says someone is underrated, he obviously is not underrated.
Agree..Ian treated members as 2nd class player's that had to follow his strict guidance on and off the stage. Tull was over as a Band after Living in the Past.Then it was Ian's big Show.cod piece and Monte Python Joke..Benefit was last one for me..great chemistry as a group unique
When Ian did not even acknowledge Barre’s contribution to Tull during the 50th Anniversary tour it became quite obvious that there is no love lost between these two.
Very sad considering the body of work they made together and the mutual respect they had. I hope that eventually they get on again, life's too short.
Was very sad to learn about that. Ian had pictures of all past band members throughout the years at the shows and didn't show one of Martin?! That's just messed up.
Almost like trying to erase him from their history, 50 years of Jethro Tull fans will forever include admire and remember Martin as the important piece he was in that band and I think it was SO WRONG of Ian to do such a thing.

@@jermaschinot Ian, Martin, Barrie, Clive, John Evans, John Glascock, Jeffery Hammond, and Glenn Cornick should get in if Tull is ever put in. I could also see a case for Mick Abrahams, Doane Perry, and Dave Pegg being put in.

I don't think Ian is personally well liked by other musicians, especially his contemporaries. RRHOF powers-that-be just don't like him.
Martin is one of the most underrated guitarists around, not to mention his ridiculously impressive musicianship..truly should be in anyone's top 20 list..just let your ears convince you..
Martin has narcistic personality disorder.
When it first happened, I remember Martin saying he was totally caught off guard as Ian had not mentioned anything to him about starting a new band without him. He was hurt and said he was really lost until trying to write his own stuff and starting to put a band together himself. He has succeeded much more than he thought he would and is loving life now without Tull.
And it’s so well-deserved!
I am glad Martin can find fans and play gigs, but as a fan from the 70's I cannot stand anything about that band but some of Martin's improvs on old Tull and his solos. The singer just creeps me out. He should get You-Tube guy Jack Hickos or something like that who sings more like Ian than Ian at this point. or Mark Sencunda? have you ever heard him doing Tull covers?
Just saw Barre at the show in Copenhagen. Loved it! To me he is much of the sound of JT. Also recently saw JT as well. Not very impressed, sadly. Mr. Anderson has little or no voice left but his flute still works very well.
Hi. We all lose something as we age. Ian Anderson was a good singer. Now he isn’t and I agree. Most likely he knows it too. There is no one like Jethro Tull. On that I’m sure we are in agreement. Life is a long song. 😎
Martin Barre was never just "the guitar player."
He is to Tull what Dave Gilmour is to Floyd. A valuable and irreplaceable member of the band.

This is a perfect example of being in a band. Egos, slights, resentment, etc. It’s why most bands don’t even get out of the rehearsal stages. This should show up in the next Spinal Tap film.

Sorry, it’s not Jethro Tull without Martin. It’s something much less. I find it hard to believe Ian doesn’t recognize this. But, Ian always had a colossal ego.
Fortunately for you, and you should know, Barre is on a Tull tour right now. Tull is so much more without Anderson. Right?
I have been in struggle with some of my own blood (I love them though) but, some of us are better off apart from each other.

Martin Barre is Jethro Tull, as is Ian Anderson
No matter what, there would be NO Jethro Tull without Ian Anderson, he can be a prat there is no doubt, but without his talent as a writer, his vocals [ in the early years ], his flute and acoustic guitar playing, and his stage presence, Tull would never have existed. So we should count ourselves lucky that Jethro Tull formed in the first place, and left us such a wonderful back catalogue of music to play with. And that includes the brilliant Martin Barre, as he wouldn't be enjoying the success he is having now without Ian Anderson, plus the back catalogue he has access to, which will never sound right without a flute player !
Whatever the rights and wrongs, at least he's happy for him to play Tull's music and use the band's legacy to make a living, unlike Jeff Lynne with his former bandmates.
So let me get this right, Ian is saying Martin could not cope with the culture and technology used in various aspect of managing the bands operations, including touring. This all sounds like dressed-up bullshit to me and is really disrespectful to Martin. Ian is deflecting with smoke and mirrors. This is not what the great Martin Barre intimates in his interviews. I would tend to believe Martin Barre's version of event any day of the week. Ian is a genius song-writer, no question, and I love the real Tull (with Martin) but Ian is an inconsiderate, self-absorbed tool.

All I can say is the recorded guitar lead on Aqualung has to be one of my all-time favorites.
I agree for recording in the studio but in live shows he never replicated that magic .
I wonder what the original mindful Ian Anderson, in 1970, would say when he’d be told “this is what you will say in 50 years”. And, yes, Martin was never “just the Tull guitarist”
I saw Martin Barre two days ago, Clive Bunker was there and it was awesome, I would like to see Ian's JT once again ,absolutely! Long life Ian and Martin!

Always seemed Martin had a huge hand in arranging and really composing the instrumental bits.
The thing about Martin not taking to computers and the internet may be a distraction but the point that it wouldn't do Martin any good to get him back in the band is quite true and fair. I just watched an interview with Martin where he told how hard it was for him to build his own band and get recognition and lead that band himself, but he made it and is in a comfortable position now and very happy about it. Getting him back into JT would ruin all that and IA is right about that one.
I agree; it would be a step backwards for Martin Barre to rejoin Jethro Tull. I saw Martin this spring and the whole group was fantastic! The last time I saw Tull, Ian could hardly sing, and in fact did not sing most of the songs.

Tull is definitely not Tull without Martin. The music is less incisive, more smooth, less cutting. Like Fairport without Swarbrick. I get why bands split but the new Tull just doesn't excite me.

Great job, John! Very surprising response from Ian Anderson about why Martin Barre is not with Tull. 40 years later, I am still upset over Ian's dismissal of the classic '70's Tull lineup, and would have thought that Martin's departure was just another case of Ian's shuffling of band members. Knowing his tendency to "rearrange the furniture," however, it's kinda hard to believe Ian's two reasons for not keeping Martin: his unwillingness to adapt to the internet, and the pursuit a (very late)solo career.
That's "just" 2 reasons. I bet there are more
I have been a huge fan of the band and Ian for decades, but what seems sadly more like the real reason is that this may be Ian's final move to achieve autocratic control of the band. It started in the late 70's with the dismissals of the "Songs From The Wood" era players, but it's especially upsetting, because no one has been more loyal and dedicated to Ian than Martin- and of course no one can embody the guitar sounds of Tull like Martin.

Well that's really rich right there. The Guy who opined for the Days of "Heavy Horses turning the land under me" is complaining his guitar player of 50 years won't do business via text and phone apps. This is really a Narcissist creating the cover for why he had to be the ONLY Jethro Tull member. If given free tickets to Anderson's Jethro Tull or Paying $50 to see Barre I am going to see Martin I for one still believe in loyalty to friends who have been there for decades.
I would just like to add that the stories of early Tull and Tony Iommi's short stint further indicate that Anderson has always had a Narcissist complex

This was a stellar incredible band with musicianship far beyond that of today's mortals
FYI, The name Jethro Tull is also the name of a 14th century agriculturalist.
I loved Tull since I first (of many) saw them 40 years ago. But sometimes Ian can be a complete tosser. And his voice is sadly shot, whereas Martins guitar still soars.
It's a bit harsh to call him dishonest, egomaniac, etc. At least he answers questions with more than a grunt: and he's certainly a good talker. Getting him to shut up may be a bit of a problem. But hey, show business people put themselves out there, and some of them are performing even when they're not performing. It's always been obvious he is a control-freak and probably a bit lacking in the human warmth and humour department, but anyone who's been in a band knows you have to find a way to get along, and work with what you've got. Martin Barre is a nice guy, but never likely to be a driving force the way IA has been. Similarly, Cornick and Bunker were serious musicians thrust into rock stardom. You had three fabulous players, and one front man who, OK, could knock out a tune on various instruments, but he wasn't primarily a musician: he was a showman, and a good one. I wouldn't have fancied working for him, but you know what you're getting, and there are worse people in the business, believe me.
Anderson was a composer from the start, and became a magnificent instrumentalist.
That's all very well, but you don't can a valuable band member - and ROCK ICON - just because he doesn't like the Internet very much..... You work around it!

Jethro Tull would not be the Tull that electrified me over the 70's, ( their glory years), without the two guys being together. When it comes to the metal riffs of Martin Barre's unique and powerful lead guitar licks, along with Ian Anderson's flute and flamboyant energetic showmanship, that was the recipe that made them exceptionally noteworthy to listen to and follow.
I crossed that threshold of AM top 40/ pop-rock listener in the 1960's into an FM rock listener with Jethro Tull's Aqualung in October 1971. I followed Tull all the way up to Martin's departure. So Jethro Tull was a huge influnce on my listening- I can say my blues listening experience started with Tull, and Mick Abrahams' Blodwyn Pig. So I am grateful for that musical exposure.
I have yet to see Martin play, but absolutely will.
As for Ian, well I am not motivated at this point.

I don't like his comments on his former guitarist. He seems to say he's stupid because he doesn't use computers.
I'm a big fan of his work, but Mr. Anderson can sound like a condescending jerk while reading a takeout menu.
His comments most probably reflect the issue and then if both sides get entrenched and don't agree and push comes to shove then obviously MB got the shove (Ian would have to do all the work to placate MB otherwise), I think he was genuine in his praise that MB is doing the circuit and seems to be pretty busy. MB in a recent youtube interview said of the meeting Ian talked and I listened, it has happened to numerous other groups, and yes they are old but obviously can still retain an audience of mostly hard core fans I would expect!?!
I have heard IA basically call MB stupid for other things as well.
Barre wouldn't say why he and the band separated but it seemed like an emotional thing for him. I was hoping for some clarity here but no such luck.
I am sorry but i can not listen Ian Anderson anymore. His voice is awful and 5 - 6 tones on music scale down. He alone is not Jethro Tull. I know the history of all redentions of JT and Martin Berre was 43 years in JT band . To flick him of from band was not really good idea .
Martin is a living legend and very humble. If the man wants a printed itinerary, I think for all his years of loyalty, you print the man an itinerary! If any one in rock and roll deserves a little slack for being delinquent on reading emails, it’s Martin Barre!

One thing I really like and respect about Ian Anderson, obviously aside from his music, is his disciplined mind and his ability to take on the management, organization and logistics of the band. He kept this band alive and going a lot longer than most other bands when they would have folded or faded into obscurity and come back when someone else managed their return for profit. I wish he would talk more about that, and let us know more about who he is and what his songs mean ... the ones that had meaning ... LITP and previous. ;-)
Got it.. Ian became more and more of a taskmaster and independent over time. That’s one thing he’s honest about. He’s one of these guys that will not pay any employee he doesn’t have to in order to furnish a product. He’s learned over time how to minimize and maximize, if you know what I mean.. As for the issue of when is it no longer Tull?… Well, it will always be Tull, IF you consider JT is be interchangeable with IA. On the flip side.. You can’t change every ingredient of a cake, and still make the same cake.. so those are the two opposing thoughts to consider. I’d be willing to bet the recent resurgence in the JT “brand” in this decade is a revenue experiment.

If you think about how important Steve Hackett was to Genesis then that is how important Martin Barre was to Jethro Tull. And just has Steve Hackett has kept the music of Genesis alive so Martin Barre has kept the music of JT alive. Just listen to Martin’s band and it is far superior to the current and indeed recent versions of JT.

Wow, he certainly dumped on Martin Barre ! It's very hard to think of Ian's current musicians as a band,if they simply swap mp3 files and show up in the departure lounge having learned their parts. John,I noticed you couldn't get a word in edge-wise.I hope it got better as the 47 minutes wore on.

When the admin is more important than the music I have lost the plot. I am glad I lived through the 60,s 70,s and 80's but since the internet not so much. I liked actually speaking to and meeting people.
Thank god Martin is doing his own gigs. Saw him in late June. His set includes Tull songs I want to see and perform live. He's such a personable guy - great stage presence. Hope he continues going his thing and Ian does his - more opportunities to see legends and hear some of the best rock/prog/jazz/folk for the late 60s - mid 80s.
So, why is it that Tull's new guitarist tries so hard to sound like Martin Barre???
I've seen Tull twice now without Martin. I'm very sad to say, that even though JT is a top 5 favorite band, I'll never go again unless Martin can somehow rejoin the band. There's just no reason to anymore. 😢
Hah! I watch Martin Barre's interview where he emphatically states his dislike for anything to do with computers to the point of always asking others to do it for him. He is very happy doing what he's doing now, and I really like his revival of the old Tull songs.
I agree with Martin regarding the whole internet thing. I have had the same experience with the guys in my band. I hate all of it and I am lousy at it.

Love JT (classic, that is...pre 1980), love Ian...but if I had to choose between going to see Martin's show or Ian's show today, I'd choose Martin's.
I think of Ian Anderson like Ricky Gervais. He co-authored work with a great partner (Steve Merchant/Martin Barre) that was his "best", and then when that partner left his work lost quality.
I've been a Tull fan my whole life but I don't want that to give the impression that I am keen to explore anything they make now.
In terms of Ian's "treatment" of Martin - Ian already had a bad rep for being the Josef Stalin of famous musicians when he backhandedly fired previous members who were important to the band.
But as far as his voice goes - why wouldn't Ian perform himself to death? I don't think giving up is Ian's thing - he moves onwards to new things like everyone does but he doesn't quit, and why should he? Because other people want him to? Why would he care about what other people want? He doesn't owe anyone anything - if people are willing to pay to see him fail live let them.
So if you want a job in Ian Anderson’s band, make sure you put “Proficient in Word, Outlook, and the rest of the Microsoft Office Suite” on your resume.

So in a 6:58 long video regarding the actual question, from 2:15 till the end, Ian's justification was about Martins lack of emails or desire to use it. Wow... petty much?!
Well the first thing Ian talked about was Martin doing his own thing, presenting his own takes on the songs, and running his own band, rather than working under Ian, which is fair and understandable. Regarding e-mails, this isn't something to be dismissed out of hand - it's actually a pretty legit concern. My understanding about how Ian and Jethro Tull works is that Ian generally writes a loose song structure, chords, lyrics and melody, and then circulates that among the band to get everyone's input and work out arrangements and the final song structure collaboratively. 30 years ago that might have been done in a rehearsal room, but now, it's often done by e-mailing ideas back and forth, and even recording remotely. If your second-most-important member doesn't want to do that, that's really going to throw a wrench into how you run a band. It's also a pain in the ass to co-ordinate all the other things related to running a band, from scheduling rehearsals to planning tours and everything else, when people aren't responsive to e-mails.
Well that has to be the longest "no" I have ever heard.
It's like he was dancing around the subject because his conscience isn't clear. He said he'd first checked Martin's tour dates. How about checking with Martin or just writing a letter of good will and mentioning that he's contemplated such options. Maybe Martin would've responded positively, regardless if there's no future work related.
@@ytusersumone I wonder what people expect from a collaboration that clearly didn't work well anymore in the last entire decade they were together - with not a single new song recorded in all that amount of wasted time. They had to part ways to become creative again.
This annoys me so much. Martin brought so much to Tull. Imagine Aqualung without his contribution. Also he wrote that instrumental interlude in Minstrel. That warrants a co-writing credit.
Spot on. We all love Tull (with Martin in), Ian is undoubtable a genius song-writer and arranger, but he has not treated Martin or many other past members of Tull with any respect. Makes me sick. Ian is very full of himself and loves to blame others e.g. Robert Plant, Roxy Music, John Peel have all had the Ian treatment. It's never his fault it is always someone else's.

Ian and Martin are quite fine the way they are now. Martin’s band is fierce. Ian is very organized, obviously, and is busy enough. Tull was Tull. That discography is astonishing, but those days are gone. This is like The Beatles, Floyd, Yes, Genesis, the whole lot of great bands. Stop crapping on Ian. Life goes on.
So Martin isn't in the band because Ian thinks he's a Luddite? When Martin is asked if there could ever be a reunion, he simply says "No" and moves on. There was absolutely no need for Ian to dump on Martin like this. Then again, there is absolutely no reason for Ian carrying on "singing", yet he insists.

There was not a band that I liked more than Jethro Tull in the early to mid 70s. I have seen them 4 times beginning in 1974. From what I've read, Ian Anderson's decided to stop touring in 2012 because of his voice (or lack of it) and Martin Barre still wanted to perform so he left to start his own band. How funny is it that Ian Anderson seems to blame him for the breakup. Actually, the more that Ian Anderson talks, the less I think of him. Martin Barre was not just some studio musician playing with Ian Anderson, he was instrumental in most of the early JT music.

@leahcim38 jeez i am awake,"i saw thems 13 times live from 69 to 82..after that JT was lost and Ian couldn't sing no more on the 82 tour and it hurt me to much to see him that diminished vocally so i stop going to the theirs shows after 82..now as far as band's members goes so sorry but after 79 it was never that great again even if Ian is great the band never capture the musical eloquence of the 70's line up band,,period..!
So jeez maybe you cannot hear the differences,,good for you then you can still go see Ian playing flute,but for me it's long gone for Tull.

Ian really screwed martin barre, after all martin has done for tull, pretty sad.
I remember Tony Iommi commenting on the short time he was in the band saying how strange the whole dynamic was. When they'd go to eat, Ian had to have a table by himself and nobody was aloud to bother him.
That doesn't seem much like a healthy kind of environment for a band. It wasn't a brotherhood for them in any way. It was Ian's band, you worked for him and if you didn't like it......see ya?!
I think Martin put up with a lot from Ian Anderson and was willing to keep doing so until Ian forced him out.
I don't buy these "reasons". Email? Pick up the friggin' phone and call, Ian. Wow, 20 years of being the guitar that held it all down and he get's dumped because he's a luddite? The "culture" of the band is Anderson makes all the decisions and tells everyone what to do. All of Tull's best music was pre-tech wave and driven by Barre's guitar. Anderson's voice left the building after Passion Play or Songs from the Wood. Whatever, stick to sheep-farming.
Totally agree about the music. I never listen to anything after passion Play.
I’ve read interviews with Martin where he suggests that he left because he got bored with the repertoire. The set list had barely changed for decades, and there were songs that he wanted to perform that were never in the set list.
He also stated that Ian’s vocal problems were becoming an issue for him. It restricted the song choices they could play live, and he said it was getting to become embarrassing when Ian’s voice let him down on stage.
I can understand this. I’ve seen the band 4 times between 1998 and their 40th anniversary tour, and it was mostly the same set list. And on several occasions Ian’s voice was just wretched, which was sad. For the 40th tour they threw in a few more early Tull numbers, but Ian was not capable of singing them anymore so he hired the lead singer from Tull tribute band Sossity. I’m sorry, but it’s a bad sign when you have to hire your tribute act to sing on your behalf. It’s not Ian’s fault that his voice is damaged, but it’s sad all the same and I get what Barre was saying.

That's maybe some positive notes of Martin being let go, but make no mistake, Martin didn't quit, he was definitely terminated from Jethro Tull (in a rather roundabout and sneaky way I might add). He has talked about it many times, he found it odd when he heard through the grapevine about Ian approaching some of the guys about participating in TAAB 2 but keeping it from both Martin and Doane Perry. And then Ian told the two of them he was ending "Jethro Tull" because he wanted to continue working only under his own name, at which point Martin says that he felt like the rug was being pulled out from underneath him.Then 5 years later Ian resurrects Jethro Tull without inviting Martin and Doane back. Listening to Martin speak about Ian, he definitely still holds a bit of a grudge about it, although he's got his own career independent of Ian now so that's a silver lining.
Sandro Kovalev , Martin Barre had been a Tull member for 43 years before his contract of employment was terminated. He has witnessed Ian Anderson’s behaviour and attitude at first hand for all of that period - from the sacking of Glenn Cornick when they were about to board a flight at Los Angeles airport to the big clear-out of 1980. He’s spoken about how he had to ‘fight’ for his position in Tull, knowing that what happened to the others could easily happen to him if he failed to deliver or got out of line. I think it’s a testament to his own personality that he was a member of the band for so long. Tull has never been a ‘fun’ band to be a member of (various members have testified to this over the years) but it made economic sense if you wanted to pay your mortgage off early, say.
@@AK99581 And Ian Anderson replaced Martin Barre with a 30-year-old Barre look and sound-a-like. Pretty ridiculous. I have nothing against Florian Opahle, but he always seemed like somebody that was playing Barre in a Jethro Tull biopic or something.

I am a very huge JT fan. I have to say that this rift between Ian and Martin and this response is surprising. The ideal thing would be to have Martin back within the fold.
It is unfortunate that politics often rears its ugly head. This notwithstanding, Mr. Anderson is a genius and a man I would love to meet. Such an intelligent man.
As for the politics when all the dust will settle the music and the legacy shall remain.

As in most bands, the individual musicians contribute their own ideas, but I and Many others realize that coming up with the initial framework of the song takes Way more talent. Any dispute is delusion. The band is Ian's. Period. Like it or leave it. Guess what? He'll continue to do just fine 'till the end. Flush your negative cosmic debris, it's meaningless.
Wee Willy I agree ! IA is JT, without him there is no Tull ! From what I remember Ian wrote ALL the songs on Aqualung ? He is A great Frontman & enetertainer and as everyone knows, good luck having a successful rock band without that . There are countless great musicians but few great front men !
I agree, Ian was Tull. I realise that without him, there was no Tull. I get that and agree. What I don't get is why he downplays the contributions of the other members to the extent that they appear to be little more than the hired help. I thnk they were a lot more than that, especially Martin and a few of the earliest band members. Even if they were just 'the hired help' he needn't talk about them in such a condescending tone.

Well if that's true Ian songs would just be acoustic folk song's..and they all are .framework don't make song .collaboration of Idea's shape the sound and Ian won't let his ego go ..example Aqualung without Martin Barre..Living in the Past or Bourée without Glenn Cornick Bass line's.. Ian didn't come up with every idea or note in Tull and it show's in Hus catalogue if song's.

You guys are way way too nostalgic. He only said that it became complicated to work with Martin (who wanted to do his own thing too) as he is a low tech guy and Ian now want to be able to share itinaries, plane tickets, audio samples with the other guys so everyone can work on their own and then reunite to record or tour. It's a 2020 workflow, things changed. He hired his new (very young) guitarist Joe Parrish who seems to be a gifted musician and I'm just excited to see the new upcoming material in 2020. Ian can't sing anymore the Tull repertoire and Best-of Tours just kills me I find it boring as hell. But those two last albums TAAB2 and Homo Erraticus were great, played live entirely, and fit his vocal range, I think he should only look foreward and play new material in smaller venue. And for those who think JT ended-up in 1980, take some hours and listen to the A Album to see how amazing Mark Craney was on drum, Roots to Branches in 1993, The Secret Language of Birds, Broadsword... It all camed-out from the same head! Agreed that he may be an ass to work with (dictatorship), but efficient, demanding, and he is the genius behind all that...

Met Martin after a solo show a couple years ago and he seemed very down to earth and friendly. And it looks like he is really having fun fronting his own band. They play a good mix of originals, blues standards and Tull tracks. And a lot of the Tull songs are more obscure ones that are great to hear live. So I don't think there's much need on his end to get back with Ian. And he's brought in ex-Tull members for his shows, which is cool.
As for Florian, I never liked his playing much anyhow. It was cold and mechanical. Seems like he just substituted volume for technique.
Florian is moving at the end of the year.
I was happy to see Dee Palmer and Clive Bunker with Martin's band last April. Those guys have never been invited to play with Ian since they left Tull.
@@MrLuridan Ian did play at Palmer's daughter's wedding, though, so I don't know that they're on bad terms. Also, Ian did reunite with Abrahams, Bunker and Cornick several years ago. The performance is on one of the anniversary videos.

I could see where that would get frustrating that Martin couldn't embrace technology when proper communication within a band is so important. Ian's voice is so bad that in the long run this was a good move for Martin.

Ian Anderson realizes that his music is a brand that deserves the attention to new technology like any viable endeavour. It's a continual collaboration between personas and gainful experiences for palatable existence. "Nothing is easy" is a manifesto that may as well be an accompanying track to any life.
Having listened to interviews with past members of the band, the old saying “it’s not show friends, it’s show business” seems to about cover things.

Hey Tyme. As a HUGE Tull fan I think you are on the right track most likely. I like Ian and I love the music the band created over many many years. Ian ran the show and I'm sure that rubbed people the wrong way. Crest was also the last album I listened to extensively. Ian is an interesting fellow, came off kind of rude in his 60's interviews sometimes. Seemed to look down on Americans in general, which can be a slight problem for me as I look up to him and am an American.
Damn you start Ian talking, and he just doesn't shut up, He'd drive me crazy in a band.

Martin has a different view..Ian just replaced him without notice and was surprised when Ian dumped him like the others before him..
David, The fun part of all this is Martin is having the time of his life doing things with the new band & all these years later he like Dave Mason or Robin Trower have lost nothing in their playing & writing skills. It may just be my opinion but Ian is the real loser here in losing one of Rocks best players . I have no doubt's Martin still knows how to use a telephone LOL .. We just have enjoy the great Rock they made in their heyday as the real Jethro Tull.
Absolutely loved Ian Anderson and JT from his first album till about heavy horses after that there albums have gone down hill as Ian voice..
