Antibiotics won't do anything against food poisoning, NL is talking about foodborne illness. Food poisoning is when you ingest some food that contains toxic compounds normally there because it was secreated by bacteria, but the bacteria themselves don't do anything to you, they can be killed by cooking or your stomach acid, but you still get sick because of the toxic byproducts they produced, hence you were poisoned. This normally has an onset of about 4 - 6 hours after you eat the guilty food item, and passes in a few days. Foodborne illness is when you ingest a large dose of the bacteria themsevels which were living in the food, and they infect you. You might not become noticalbly ill for days or weeks after ingesting the bad food depending on the incubation period of the bacteria, and these infections tend to last weeks and be much more severe.
