    15:30 Lore time!
    All of the protoss factions are called the Vanguard of Aiur in this mission but the red one you are talking about is the Ara Tribe. The Ara Tribe were the tribe making up the bulk of the Judicator Caste. Suffice to say, they were given the privilege of an impressive complement of weapons. In the lore, they even had decorated pylons and zealots (You can find skins of those in StarCraft 2.)
    The orange faction is the Auriga Tribe. They are a tribe greatly involved in the Great Fleets. Urun was part of this tribe.
    The green faction is the Akilae Tribe. They are a tribe of mighty warriors. They were entrusted with the Uraj crystal by the xel'naga. Artanis was part of this tribe.

    • @Evan-mt7bc

      SC1 missions either take 10 minutes or an hour and there is no in between. SC1 Protoss is going to be on the opposite end of the spectrum with a bunch of hour long missions including the second hardest mission in Mass Recall (Seriously why is Protoss 8 so hard in this game). Brood War is going to be overall more consistent though and feel like an actual campaign though there's some missions that you can awkwardly cheese in like 5 minutes.

    Man, the way the protoss , and by extension the xel'naga are introduce is so interesting in sc1. Like you start with the zerg and go "wow, these guys are monsters" in the first campaign, but suddenly it like "oh ya, there also this other race that can kill everything on a planet, have fun."
    Then we get into the zerg campaign, and we start interacting with the protoss, and we start seeing there mindset and how they insanely smart with the weapons they make and the tactics they use. But they get cocky and that lead them underestimate the overmind ability, and give away their homeword location. And once the zerg is on the protoss home-world, we discover that not only do they have a religion, but apparently the protoss and zerge are made by the same gods, and were design to hate each other.
    Meanwhile, SC2 is like "hay, there this artifact behind that door, let use a drill on it." Ok, there a bit more to it then that, but still.

    Here's my challenge: Beat Ulrezaj in the Enslavers' Campaign. I don't think it's possible and I think you're the only one who can definitively answer: Can you beat Ulrezaj in EN:Zerg mission 3?

  • @drakewarrior1013
    @drakewarrior1013 2 года назад +16

    Wait, what? Getting shields restored stunned the unit? Omg! Yeah, that sounds pretty bad tbh.
    But not in Mass Recall! I'm on the Protoss missions right now, and let me tell you - with my bad skill level, I would not be able to finish any mission on Hard without the batteries. They are incredible. My units can stay and fight near them, and I think multiple batteries can restore shields to the same target. It was very good with Scout attack forces too.
    The only downside is they can't restore the shields of the buildings, or I would be able to make impenetrable defenses (photon cannons are very weak in terms of HP/shields, had to use Waygates and such as walls).
    P.S. Scouts would beat everything I think, but can't, because Scourge actually destroys them.

    concerning your feelings of being shoehorned into hydras, it's possible (and very effective) to run mutas or scourge for just about every mission after you unlock them, with the same being true of guardians (though that is less relevant, since the hydra complaint is mostly centered around a perceived lack of anti-air). hell, the way that i beat the zerg campaign as a kid was to stack up guardians and slowpush across the map with muta support!
    in fact, the worst map to run non-hydra anti-air in episode 2 are the two missions where you fight terrans after unlocking mutas - since the first is the last mission in the campaign where you are stuck on 1-gas, and the second maroons your expansion on the island to your right (which is pretty hard to take without getting your ass kicked in mass recall, just because of the sheer volume of enemy drops). every single other map either starts you next to expansions, or enemy forwards bases that contain gas geysers and minerals. the REAL issue that you've been having, i believe, is not the lack of zerg flexibility in building compositions that can deal with AI-controlled air targets - but a lack of options that don't really, really annoy you (or, in the case of scourge, require constant micro to actually use) with their voice responses.

    First time we hear about the Xel'Naga... in-game at least. But if anyone read the manual that came with the game, it's mentioned in both the Protoss and Zerg portion. Man I miss game manuals, they always gave a decent rundown of the setting. My favorite was Battlezone 1998, because some of the pages looked like they have coffee ring stains and they all read like top secret briefings being that it was a secret mission throughout the solar system under the guise of the Lunar landings.

    Run idea: 1-mission, 1-unit. Wings of liberty (on brutal?), but every build mission, you pick one unit. You can only build that for the rest of the mission. After the mission, that unit is unavailable to pick for the rest of the campaign. Not picking any unit for a mission is allowed. We might even see a predator actually being used!

    • @jarrakul
      @jarrakul 2 года назад +1

      I like this in spirit, but I think it needs a little fine-tuning. With the exception of no-build missions, you generally get about one unit per mission, and it's not always a unit that has an attack. That's gonna lead to a lot of non-choices, where Grant only has one unit as an option.
      With that in mind, I'm going to propose a variant: 2-missions, 2-units. Same idea, but Grant can pick up to two units per mission, and each unit can be picked twice. Once a unit's been picked twice, that's it. That should still be very restrictive, and force him to use a bunch of different compositions, but he should be more able to avoid situations where he just has no options.

      If there's still a next mission, you can continue into the next mission (and unlock it that way), but it won't count toward your progerss%. If you did not choose continue, you won't have the next mission unlocked when you come back to the game.

    For an archives challenge run, how about adding a custom mini hero to the campaigns? You get a custom hero, based on a basic unit chosen by community poll, and you have to go through the entire campaign with them surviving every mission. The difficulty of the missions is increased, particularly the early missions, to make up for the extra hero. Also lets you justify changing up parts of various missions to include things you want.
    On each mission there is a special goal the custom hero must complete before the mission can end, chosen from suggestions in the comments of the previous mission. The goal must obviously be super unique, and preferably something that requires the hero be involved with directly. As the campaign progresses they get some upgrades to keep them relevant, use more community polls for the bonuses and abilities they get from this. They don't get too powerful, so someone like Jim will always be better.
    Just think taking a slightly buff marine from the tutorial of Rebel Yell through to All In on Wings of Liberty, and watching their personal story unfold alongside the stories of all the other characters that we've come to know.

    a relatively simple challenge run that I think could be interesting: Each mission you’re not allowed to use that mission’s new unit. So no tanks on the drill mission. No carriers on the space platform. Drones only on the first HotS mission. Etc.
    Alternatively, a ‘new unit only’ challenge. Though some missions that give units like the medic or medivac would have to be skipped.

    • @RoyalFusilier
      @RoyalFusilier 2 года назад

      Honestly, this is how a lot of players roll anyhow with a few exceptions. As has been pointed out, a weakness of combining 'purchase upgrades between missions' with 'introduce new units in missions' is that their showcase level is always the point where a unit is weakest. Maybe a way to get around that would be to introduce the unit in its fully upgraded state, then after the mission, have Swann say "You know what the word 'prototype' means, hotshot? Get me more credits, and I can get a whole lot more."

    About the interactivity - use the polls that RUclips allows to create and suggest during the video. You can chose the part where it will be suggested, and viewers can vote right there or at any time by clicking the "i" icon in the top right corner.
    You have to have some of the popular suggestions already in mind to create the poll, of course. But if you do - it is far better than just looking at the comments, because not everyone searches every comment, and not everyone looks at them at all. But everyone will be able to click the 2 buttons to open the poll and leave a vote.

  • @Nawyria

    Hey Grant,
    Pausing mid-video to respond to your idea of a community interaction on the Archives and I'm really digging that notion. Here's my suggestion for you you might organize a community challenge run of some kind on the Archives:
    * Post a video announcing a community challenge run and ask your viewers to put their ideas in the comments (or have some off-YT suggestion box). It'd be a good idea to include some general guidelines for the types of challenges you are looking for in the video itself, so you don't just get a whole jumble of random stuff.
    * Post a second video announcing the vote a day or two later with a link to a poll hosted on an external website (e.g. Google Forms) with a set of curated options that we can choose from. This allows you to (a) make sure to filter for things that are actually doable, fun for you to do and that you think would make good content and (b) avoids the first-mover advantage for RUclips comments whereby early comments get early upvotes and thus get more visibility. Bonus points if you allow people to vote for more than one thing.
    * But here's the twist: the second part of the poll is a blank-field suggestion box for challenges for the next video _after_ the the one we are voting for in the poll.
    The goal is to end up in a loop where you release video N with a poll asking us to vote on the challenge for video N+1 and simultaneously asking us to submit ideas for video N+2. Of course, this means that you need to plan in advance what missions are going to be done in what order, but I think this format could work without being a major PITA to organize.

    i think a good system as a way to interact with archives is, you could have people come up with suggestions on different challenges not for the next missions but the ones after. then have people vote on the challenges for the next mission. example you have video (A) witch has already drop, video (B) witch is the current video, video (C) witch is the next video, and Video (D) witch will come after video (C). in video (B) you tell people to come up with challenges for video (D) then you tell people to vote for challenges for video (C) witch come from people suggestion in video (A). then when video (C) drops you have people come up with challenges for video (E) while voting on challenges for video (D) witch come from peoples suggestion in video (B). the biggest benefit is that you or a moderator control which challenges are voted on so people don't end up voting for an impossible challenge also so people don't end up voting on the some challenge over and over again. the delay between challenge suggestions and vote also allows you or a moderator to test interesting challenge that your not shore are possible

    For the archives challenge thing: i would generally say that the best thing to do is to gather up a few of the most popular/fun sounding challenges and make a poll about them. RUclips comments aren't always the smartest, so running a polls with a few options can give you a better idea of what people want most.
    Edit: watching the video is helpful.
    Whilst i still think doing polls is a good idea, it does also means you have to upload the video, leave it for a few hours, come back, find the most upvoted comments, make a poll, leave it for a few hours, check results, do mission with the challenge, upload video , rinse and repeat, which leaves rather little time.
    So, just reading the RUclips comments and picking the most up voted ones each day is probably the best thing to do. Obviously, challenges which are downright impossible, such as completing A Sinister Turn without building anything, should be disregarded.

    Hey GGG, I have been a big fan of SC/SC2 since watching the early games with HuskyStarcraft. I just realized that I was not subscribed all this time, and thus wished to take the time to say that I really enjoy and appreciate the content that you put out. Sometimes your choices/actions make me want to pull my hair out, but it certainly spices up the experience, and I respect your dedication to not always necessarily going for the "best" choice, but often the "fun/interesting" choice. Just please remember to have fun with what you do, or it is all pointless. I am sure that viewers like myself would most enjoy you enjoying yourself.

    You could do like a burn run, where you have so many uses of each comp (allowing for units being added, ofc) before you "burn" them. Or you could also potentially do LoTV like that but with all the different unit variants

  • @meredithnavin1358
    @meredithnavin1358 2 года назад

    I had a meme mod idea. Change up the units that get introduced in each mission. For example, Liberation Day you get Firebats, The Outlaws you get Goliaths, maybe you get Siege Tanks in Devil's Playground, Medics in Outbreak etc. In later missions you cannot make the unit that you initially are introduced to in the original SC (no ability to make Battlecruisers in The Maw for example). I think a Goliath/Firebat composition in Zero Hour might make things interesting. Obviously, it would depend on balancing and I'm not good at that. Anyway, just an idea. 🙂

    So did the Overmind actually need to jump through all these hoops in order to assimilate the protoss, or was it trying to make it as easy as possible for Tassadar to kill it and let the Queen of Blades inherit the Swarm?

    It did not save your progress because you have resumed from replay. Do not do this! I have fallen in this trap myself too, and with my weaker PC, longer loading times, and less skill = longer and harder game experience, it was really frustrating.
    I think it is because if you resume, it uses Local Player" player account instead of Grant (or how your account is called?) player account, and so, the progress is not being saved in the correct folder.
    If you need, just save the game normally. Saving and loading the game does not break the progress, I'm doing it all the time (5-10 saves per mission).

    If you want ideas for challenges... PvP campaign? Like, you play through the campaign story, but another player controls the forces that need to stop you?
    Obviously, some bits would need to be altered, to stop the player controlling the normally AI-run factions from just rushing you at the start of every game using the base-defence units, but it could be a new way of handling things.

    I had an idea but it's a campaign challenge unfortunately (don't even know if it's even a challenge).
    Basically you get only get to choose one type of unit per mission and no unit can be picked more than once/twice. That way there's some planning in getting upgrades and unlocking units. It kinda starts after mission 3 tho.

    A completely out there suggestion, that probably doesn't fit and is closest to Real Scale, I would love to see your take on making a custom campaign and how you would aim to balance difficulty levels away from brutal early game, easy late.
    Could make it a small series exploring writing, map creation, AI creation(likely a collab with a mod maker), power balancing, boss fights and what generally makes for good twists in your opinion.

    challenge idea. Exclusivity Principle, unit comps can not be used on more than 1 mission consecutively. obviously early game will not be doable because of limited unit options. after that though, it gets interesting. cant use marines more than one mission in a row for example.

Idk i just loved the hero randomizer in hots randomizer , so i want more hero stuff .

    Something I have not seen recommended in these comments, I would love to see homeworld challenge runs, obviously the game has scaled difficulty between missions and you keep your fleet, so a deathless run (if possible) would be interesting strategy as maxing out would hamper further missions.

I feel like that'd probably work better and give more chances to ideas posted after a lot of others already watched the video.

    The overmind reminded me of one problem I got with the epilogue story. Why did Kerrigan become a Xelnaga? She is only pure pf essence. She doesn't have anything from the protoss. Does that mean, that the protoss weren't pure of form, but the terrans were, since kerrigan is part human?

    • @thompsonel-melloi9270

      Purity of form is described as have "Vast psionic potential" lore wise the Terran had to remake the scale they used to measure psionic power when Kerrigan was discovered

      I've noticed this trend in sci-fi series where if the writing quality goes downhill, the human-centrism of the story tends to increase. Now, the two things don't necessarily relate, except in that focusing more on humans takes less mental effort for human writers, and so does writing poorly.
      See Mass Effect for instance, where *(spoilers ofc, in as much as one can spoil rotten fruit)* in ME1 we were newcomers getting involved in an alien galaxy to stop an alien from bringing in the most alien things ever, in ME2 we were working for humans to recruit aliens to save humans from aliens, and by ME3 we were working for humans to save humans by fighting brainwashed humans, using a superweapon found, built, and deployed by a human-led coalition, to save the human homeworld which is the site for the final real confrontation, which is between three humans, and in the end even space cthulu takes on a human shape to confront us with our ending choices.
      Why do I bring this all up in relation to Starcraft 2? Dunno, I'm sure I had a very subtle and clever point in there.
