In this video and excerpt from our Nico Bereciartua interview and guitar masterclass, WATCH HERE: Nico Bereciartua shares his incredible journey from being a passionate fan of The Black Crowes watching them in concert to becoming a member of the band - a true testament to the power of following your dreams, as he puts it.
Watch as Nico chats with Gibson Gear Guide host Dinesh Lekhraj about how he moved to New York and frequently attended Black Crowes concerts, confidently telling his girlfriend that he would one day play with them - the rest is history.
Years later, a casual interaction with Rich Robinson on a social media Q&A session led to an unexpected opportunity where Nico posted a video of himself playing one of Rich’s songs, which caught Rich’s attention.
This led to a personal audition in New York, where Nico impressed Rich with his extensive knowledge of his solo work.
As Nico recalls, they connected immediately, as the “vibe” and the “hang” are just as important as being able to play guitar or memorize songs.
After this chance meeting, Nico ended up playing with Rich for two years, eventually becoming the live touring guitarist for The Black Crowes reunion tour.
When The Black Crowes reunited, Nico’s journey took another significant step - thanks to his established relationship with Rich and familiarity with The Black Crowes music (he was and still is a mega-fan), he was in a prime position to join on guitar.
During the audition for The Black Crowes, Nico played deep cuts like “Sting Me” and “Sometimes Salvation,” seamlessly fitting in with the band, showcasing his dedication and respect for the music, and his incredible slide and open-tuning guitar techniques.
Watch as he and Dinesh also recount the importance of natural chemistry with the band members that made him the perfect fit as guitarist for The Black Crowes.
Watch as Nico talks about the importance of musical respect, how the camaraderie within the band is SUPER important to being in a successful band, and how manifesting his dreams turned into reality.
From a fan in the audience watching tracks like “Hard To Handle” to playing alongside his idols onstage and carving out his own career, Nico's story is a testament to perseverance and doing what you love.

Nico was a great choice to be in The Black Crowes. I’m so glad Rich checked out the video he posted on a whim and followed up with him down the road. Look at how one thing naturally led to another. Nico is clearly a super nice person, a huge fanboy of this band, and really cares about playing the songs with that vibe we all know and love. Thanks, Nico!

Was lucky enough to see Nico..right up front and center at Woodstock, so I loved it. And just an awesome opportunity for him.

At 6:51 I think it's Dope AF for him to feel like that!! Joining a massive Legendary Band like The Black Crows could be really intimidating at times especially in the beginning.. but it sounds like the fit between them was easy and flawless.. I'm not much of a Black Crows Fan, obviously I like "She Talks To Angels" but this was a good interview and Nico generally humbled and appreciative to be apart of the Band!!
