      I know right? I've been living in this area for 4 years and to think there's been like 100 geocache boxes within a mile of me the whole time is kind of creepy but really fun haha

    The funny thing is that I once stumbled across and plastic box with a bunch of random shit in it while I was hunting. I thought maybe some kid forgot their stuff so left it figuring they'd come back for it. Now looking back it was probably one of these things. I love the concept and I can't wait till it's warm enough to go out and try it on purpose.

    My dad and I went looking in a forest for one. It was really hidden. It was off a bike trail about 20 paces in. I found it by complete accident I stepped on this log and looked down and it was there behind it. It was raining and my dad kept wanting to go home. It was really fun. The GPS was kind of fickle though. I think it gets you in the vicinity of the cache/treasure but at some point you just got to look with your eyes for it and not trust it so much.

    • @willflanders2475
      @willflanders2475 9 лет назад +10

      seal3081 Theres arround a 20 foot margin or error in EVERY direction. So find the point then use the clues (If any) to search for the cache. That's half of the fun. Urban caches are usually easier. Ones in the woods tend to be more challenging and more rewarding(Larger) Also, cloud cover, rain, snow, fog, trees and buildings will make your GPS less accurate. try starting from a near buy clearing then walk towards the point. Good luck and welcome to GEOCACHING!

    • @seal3081
      @seal3081 9 лет назад +2

      Will flanders yes, when I first posted this I didn't know there were clues. Apparently the clue was that there was a bell on the tree. I went back to the spot and found the bell. It would have been so much easier if I used the clue.

    Shame there are so many negative comments, here. Obviously geocaching isn't for you, and that's fine.
    I have three young sons who love the sense of adventure, like to think they're pirates finding treasure, and also getting out in the fresh air. Given half a chance they'd be nose to nose with an iPad all day. For us, geocaching is great.
    If it's not your thing, then enjoy what you like doing, and don't rain on everyone else's parade.

    I'd like to see Geocaching lap over with Urbex. It would be like stumbling upon a long-abandoned hotel & being the first one to sign the guest book in 20 years. Explorers could leave photos in the cache of other abandoned places they've explored.

    So basically, you can't take all the loot, just trade items in it and document it?

    • @j.r.3071
      @j.r.3071 8 лет назад +31

      Trade for items of equal or greater value. You don't have to trade for trackables, but make sure you put it in another cache that is closer to its goal.

    Geocaching is so much fun!! It has taken me to so many interesting places! I have learned so much! It is like an analogy for how the world really is: [normal life = visible world (sensory world) = Church Militant] -- [hidden geocaching reality = another hidden dimension discovered by the intellect with the aid of hints, clues, maps, GPS, and Divine Inspiration = Church Triumphant].
    Truth and/or Reality is composed of the seen and unseen. Geocaching gives us insight into another truly present world. I just love to learn; there is so much to apprehend in our world!

    Looks like fun. There are a few new ones located by Ashland ,Nebraska for this weekends event. Have noticed over the last few months as you people find these that you leave your trash ( fast food containers, cans, and bottles) when you get out to search. I have found many by just watching you. Any more littering by these and I will remove them. I have located quite a few by watching the litter piles grow bigger.

      it's a treasure hunt where you have to find something that someone hid. The person that hid the cache also gives some sort of hint of where it is sometimes coordinates. Download the app and try seeing what's near you then try...

    • @bluestreak711
      @bluestreak711 10 лет назад +26

      That does happen sometime. When that happens we say that the cache was muggled. The larger containers with nicer objects are usually hid better and usually only a geocacher will find it and not a muggle (muggle- person who is not a geocacher). Geocachers have respect for caches.

    wow, I was in the park next to me...and there was a bent tree log that was over a little pond...I climbed the 6ft tree and stood at the edge of it....found a piece of wood that's placed weirdly on a branch....I kicked the piece of wood and I found something interesting...a little orange letter container, I opened it and found something written in it... In the beginning I thought it was something a gang member left for someone...then I was like what the hell, what if it was a code for a treasure...I went back home and here I am....
    DUDE....It's fate....
