I'm impressed that GM gave you one to review after you showed that the Hummer truck couldn't even handle a rainy day in Colorado. EDIT: As a commenter pointed out, the failure was not related to the rain. It would have failed regardless of the weather. It was just very bad luck.
Manufacturers love beta testers

The toggles are actually genius - you still get the benefit of the UI being able to incorporate a lot of different controls in one screen (since they can change from screen to screen) but the tactical feedback of an actual button
Have we started the "bricked on the road" pool yet? I give it 4500 miles before all systems crash (again).
Still high 2200 u need a tow by a gasoline wrecker
Cool video and looks great in that color, the original white only was a kind of boring after a while.
Alex is doing great with the camera 📸 🤠 Great job Alex!!
I would love to see the tire changing procedure purely for entertainment. Getting that tire up and down from the spare location would be painful. Plus curious to see how well they made the jack for a 9,000 lb vehicle
would like to see the ground under that jack after that attempt.
Tow it. Forget even attempting THAT fiasco!
Should follow up with a 3 row. Although I suspect they will just use the platform and make an EV Yukon.
The Hummer EV SUV is one of the most handsome SUVs released in the last few years.
110k so it's really north of 120k. More stuff the vast majority can't afford. I'm seeing a trend here lower production higher profit.
Gotta make up for the ice market world wide sales collapse of 30-45% since late 2017 now somehow right? 😀
Looks good in that color. Way better than the black and whites that the trucks were released in. The cargo area massive. The auto opening tailgate is nice. The spare tire and carrier being included seems like a no brainer to me. So good for GMC to do that. Speaking of, what ever happened to the idea of TFL doing a Tire change video on the truck version????? I seriously want to see 1 of the members of the crew(or 2 if need be)do a tire change on it. I want to see if the offered jack will in fact lift that truck up and do the job w/out blocks under it. 😉
Cargo area is actually relatively disappointing considering the size of this vehicle. He said it was 80 cubic feet, the Toyota 4Runner is a physically smaller vehicle yet it has a 90 cubic feet cargo area.
@@trailrunnah8886 cargo area is especially pathetic considering how externally huge it is, and that it's an EV architecture, which should maximize interior space.
@@daniels2761 I'm not surprised, it has a really high load floor because of all the batteries and junk underneath. Same as the new Sequoia, as big as that vehicle is the cargo area is a disaster because of the batteries for the hybrid system and the third seat take up so much room.
cant wait to use my giant 800hp offroad EV to take little Jimmy to soccer practice and pick up some groceries on the way home in my comfy suburban town
I'm super impressed by the original Hummer EV and I hope they keep building them. I'm not much of a pickup guy so this suv version is the one I'd definitely get if I could afford one. Gr8 vid as usual. 🚙 🇺🇸 🔌
Beautiful and very useful vehicle. I’d love it with the 3.0 Liter diesel even more. lol
Useful? The poor little 3.0 would struggle to move this thing. It has less cargo space than a little 4runner, and at 9000 pounds its main use is turning tires into dust.
@@daniels2761 if it was diesel it wouldn't be nearly as heavy. It would probably be around the same weight as a Yukon or Suburban. A diesel could easily handle that.
@@chrisgill7824 yeah but being EV is the only reason this exists. It's on an EV specific platform that is incompatible with a traditional powertrain.
Yea me too, a diesel would get like over 600 miles of range and fill Back in 5 minutes on roadtrips.
Love the show Tommy ... Have a beautiful day Everyone ✌️....👏👏👏 CAMERA NINJA ALEX
So great to see Alex again in this video!! Glad Tommy featured her. We need more Alex!
Massive truck with the cargo space of a Nissan rogue and a cramped back seat, nice
I'm mixed on the satin finish, as I've heard special care is required to maintain it, but it sure looks nice in my eye. Great vehicle for those that want one but it's not on my shopping list.
Avoid it.
Yup the only way I’d have a satin finish, is if it were a wrap or PPF film.
Why?@@Dive-Bar-Casanova
I have loved hummer ever since they came out. I own an 08 Hummer H3 Alpha that i absolutely love. Taken it all throughout Alaska and it has never let me down. I think it's cool that they are available again as EV; however, it would be awesome if they also released a gasoline version. It would be hard to do all I've done throughout Alaska with an EV.
man, that sounds awesome, would an H2 have any problem doing everything you did in Alaska?
@@DrAlexanderHamilton I would just say gas really and make sure you have some sort of device to communicate with as you might lose signal depending on where you go.
@@MaTurtle45do you have an extended gas tank or did you carry extra jerry cans? If so, how many jerry did you carry with you?
I'd love to see you do your full off-road testing as well as a trip to Moab with this.
It looks smaller inside than the H2 in the back. I was wondering why it didn't have a 3rd row option and this might be it just lack of space but I don't know how cause the H2 has 3rd row option. Yeah, sort of a let down. I really love the H2, I have 3. but you might as well get the truck and put a topper on the back. and where do you mount the winch?
What's the cargo space with the second row seats up?
Should we expect the roof panels to leak and squeak?
They only leak in the rain or during a carwash. In Phoenix we never get rain and there's so many dust storms there's no point to wash your car
Of course, GM wouldn't have it any other way.
Paired with the winter package and you have a rolling jacuzzi.
Yes, of course.
The tailgate opens to the right. If you're parallel parked, it opens toward the curb, meaning you need the full width of the gate, plus space to walk around before you can get into it. Same issue with the RAV4, but that's also sold in markets that drive on the left...
Oops! 😮
Yeah, they designed it like a Japanese SUV. Why?!?
Very nice video. I am impressed with the look of the new SUV and that color and accents are to die for. I wonder what the range increase would be by taking off that gigantic tire in the tailgate.
The virticle HVAC vents are very similar looking to the vintage 5 inch external floppy disk drive. I like it!
I am impressed with the way the camera lady Alex showed what was mentioned in perfect viewing and focus. Good job. Gm on the other hand with that price for the vehicle you should be ashamed.
Impressive vehicle, great video and very nice video assistant. Keep doing what you do. 😁
My personal opinion is that I'd still have the Rivian, but this isn't bad by any stretch.
I also don't think I would say the Mercedes competes with this. I know they are kind of in the same ballpark on price, and the Mercedes can handle itself off road. But as an example of why they don't compete, I would have no issues bringing muddy boots into a hummer. I have a similar thought with the Rivian, but I might get some weathertech floor mats first. I would feel awful if I brought muddy boots into the Mercedes.
😍9:19 TOMMY: “All right, let’s check out the rear seat, Alex!”
(He’s so smooth!)🤣
The best part of that review was Alex and her partnership with the young man- 👏🏽 well played Sir
I'll wait 6 years until Humme works the bugs out and a solar panel on the roof will provide an 180-mile boost on the fly 🪰
I’d be curious to know the weight of the suv vs truck
What height clearance is needed to park this in a garage?
Could you please tell me the width, height and length inside the trunk?
I'm impressed 😢😢😅😅that gm gave you one to review after you showed that's hummer truck couldn't 🚚
For such enormous and heavy SUV, the tiny interior space is a shame.
Strange that the tailgate doesn't open from the other direction for safety when loading from curbside!!
Very impressive can’t wait to off-road it.
That second row looked to have very little leg room which is surprising considering there's no third row. The second row should have a massive amount of legroom as a result.
It’s just big on the outside.
@@jumpman2o After watching some reviews of midsize/compact SUVs I have learned that the larger size somehow doesn't translate to more back seat room anymore. I was watching the guys on Truck King install a baby seat on the new Pathfinder and was shocked to see how far forward the front seat had to go for the baby seat to have room. Here I was thinking I needed to get a larger vehicle to solve my current baby seat issue, but now I know that won't fix it so I might as well keep driving my B segment and enjoy the smaller footprint. But hey, maybe I can put the baby in the larger cargo area with the third row folded?
@@jumpman2o Hummer is just excess for excess sake. Big and gigantic but not very practical or useful. Big on the outside, hard to park. Super large battery to take longer to charge, and can only carry 5 uncomfortably. Look to other GM products or Rivian if this is something you want
We had a H3 back in 2006 for 2 years in Oman - cost approx. 30k US-Dollars Loved it for Off-Roading. Manual gear shift broke down at 24k KM. Got ut replaced, though. Loved it again. But could not get it back to Austria, due to tooooo much Import price and taxes.
Now, this Monster appears. I am afraid to move in some other countries to afford it again.
Well, but this morning i am going to the Salzburg-Race-Track: Porsche-Challenge with my son! In the Audience......
My favorite feature and a major one that separates from the truck is the rear power window and they didn't even show it lol
All I can think about is encountering one of these as I'm attempting to charge my 77.7 kw EV6. 177kws...this sucker is going to be taking a charger for over twice as long as my EV6. I did a recent trip to Cali and there was a line of 3 cars waiting for the the 3 working and taken chargers (yep the standard one not working EA charger at each station routine). The build out of charging infrastructure can't come soon enough.
Same leaky roof panels? Nice move GM

All I can say after this video is "we want more Alex"
Second that
The front lights on this reminds me that in some states its illegal to have more than 4 white lights on the front of a vehicle. Nowadays that law is usually used by police as an excuse to pull someone over for a search, like broken taillight or headlights out of adjustment laws are, but technically on the books in many states , its still illegal.
Looks great. Love the back end and that paint job. But the price is ludicrous, I just don’t understand who this would be for.
Arnold Schwarzenegger! 😆
I love the relatively straight roofline. What I suspect is that with the overall power and range of these vehicles, along with their relative cost per mile compared to gas and diesel burners, aerodynamics are no longer the driving design force that it they were in the past, and that manufacturers will now be able to prioritize function over form to a much greater degree.
Not really; in the Hummer's case it's so damn heavy that it won't be efficient no matter how good the aero is. Obviously most EV designs focys heavily on aero (see Tesla) If you think this vehicle is cheap to run, take a look at what a set of tires costs and remember it'll go through them quickly.
Electric trunk "gate?"?
Come on, that's just silly. Use a strut instead.
That spare tire will definitely hit something when it opens.
I hate EVs, but see some great car camping potential, with this! I love the look of this variant and really wish we had a new hybrid gas Hummer too
Interesting… why the smaller battery packs here? Makes me wonder what are they truly doing with the Silverado and the Gmc Sierra EV’s. They still have not said the true size of the battery packs yet. Maybe this is why?? We all just assumed it’s getting the 212 kw pack or whatever it is on the big boy hummer
I anticipate both pack sizes will be offered depending on what the brand or model accepts. This SUV is quite a bit shorter than the truck version so makes sense they couldn’t fit as much but for the Silverado and Sierra those should have similar or longer lengths to accept the larger pack size.
Tommy, can you start finding out the generation of software in these things? With all the issues you guys have has with the sister Hummer it's becoming more important on the versions of the O/S that controls these beasts. Be nice if they had fixed some of the bugs from the 1st edition p/u!
$110k lol, 95% ca not afford this beast
throw on taxes and interest and it's over 120k. Since they aren't going to make all that many of them they will likely be even more.
I wonder if there'll be a stretch version of the Hummer EV SUV with 3 rows. Something like the first Suburban.
looks much better than the truck to me, and appreciate the dimension changes, but that price is a non-starter for me. Bring on the Silverado EV with a Z71 or ZR2 Package please :)
remember to manually charge the 12v battery in the fronk cuz it doesnt charge when plug in
Can't wait for the Hummer EV SUV version to break down on Roman
I assumed the “Alex” filming was Alex Dykes, as you often film each other, but no this is not Alex on Autos!
GMC Hummer EV SUV! This is one sexy beast.
5:55 I was not ready to be 5'1"
The color sure matches the background.
I felt like the pickup version should have been in this form factor. This is similar in proportion to the H2
They didn’t color match the hummer in the display to the actual car. That bothers me so much.
Do any EV Vehicle get the mileage you are told when bought? Just a question I feel is warranted since fossil fuel powered vehicles fall short on that also
Wow, the back area is really small. Especially the floor to ceiling height.
Do the rear window go down? The one with the spare tire
yes
A nice commercial for the HUMMER. Okay, I'll take one and review it every week for free for two years, but only if GMC sends me a review unit before Christmas 2024.
When are they gonna start releasing the lower trims of the hummer ev? Not just the edition 1
Pretty cool for a truck priced 45k more than it should be.
The cost to charge that battery would be insane
I LOVE ❤ this SUV..MUSCULAR but BEAUTIFUL ..
This might be The One that makes me ok with parting with my FJ
This Is A Great, Very Masculine/Aggressive/Rugged Look SUV From GMC. But There Is One More Car That I Am Still Waiting To Be Put In Production, THE PORSCHE ELECTRIC VAN VISION RENNDIENST [The Concept Looks So Futuristic]. Good Luck GMC. Hope Everything Works Great For This 2024 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1.
Nice overview. 10:28
Spare tire? looks like someone in GM was watching TFLs things we miss from new cars.
Nice color!
Let's remember, this truck exists to 'save the planet'....what a giggle the earth feels right now. Also, how did GM achieve the opposite of the Tardis? Pure genius.
GM is not here to save the planet with this, it's a status symbol. I doubt there are many EV people buying this
@@matt45540 Hi mate, I get it, I was mainly just taking the piss - a bit of tongue-in-cheek ribbing. On a serious note though, if anyone were to take the 'environment' seriously at all, this thing just wouldn't be allowed to exist. Thankfully, no-one actually gives a hoot at all about the environment, so we get to see creations like this.
I get you're probably joking in your comment, but I don't think anyone really thinks EV's are saving the planet. Granted, they are better off for the planet, most people are buying an EV due to them being a lot cheaper to run and hardly any maintenance. I love the idea of just charging at home, never needing an oil change, filters, etc. Not to mention I won't need to spend $60-$100 a week to fill up. Just charge at night and have a full "tank" daily.
Is thr a third row option ?
Tommy doing what Tommy does! Another thorough video sir. But just like the original hummer, the EV truck and now SUV are niche vehicles. Use to be consumers would buy a vehicle to fit a lifestyle, now an owner has to conform to the EV’s compromises
Lol. What compromises? What are you even talking about? You people and your anti-EV talking points are beginning to be predictable at this point.
@@mybro727 really? Compromised range when doing truck things like towing or even temp swings high or low, have to plan around finding charging stations, weight, cost. The negatives are real but if you’re willing to live with them, go for it. I’m just not sold yet
@@mybro727Like you said predictable. Hit the towing talking point first thing.
@@mybro727 Not every EV has a significant compromise, HOWEVER this particular EV does. On a level 1-2 charger it can take an entire day to charge, not a few hours while you sleep so that must be considered It's massive meaning it won't fit in most garages so charging will happen outside (although I feel if you can dump 100k on a truck, you should probably spend a little more and build a place to put it). All of that so it can achieve the MPGe equivalent of 25mpg and a bog standard range of 300 or so miles.
In my personal life, an EV of any sort would be a compromise. Currently I'd have to downsize my vehicle as my current vehicle is to tall for my garage, in addition to that all the chargers in my area exist to the west in the city, to the east up into the mountains they become few and far between other than the few level 1/2s I know of in the state parks. This would mean I'd have to ensure my EV has enough range to make it into the mountains, and that my stay would be long enough to replenish it so I can make it home. I'm not here hating on them, I like EV tech and am watching very closely for that "goldilocks" vehicle to pop out. So far though I think the closest thing I'll be able to get to an EV and make it work for me is a plug in Hybrid
@@craig8638 Probably because those are actual legitimate concerns that need to be addressed. While I seriously doubt every commenter that comments on things like range loss need the full range they seem to think they do, range loss caused by simple interruptions in the aerodynamics of the vehicle, or added weight, or a trailer are indeed things that are major deal breakers for some people. There are dairy, horse and beef farms in my backyard, I know some of the farmers and hunt on their land, a current EV truck would never be able to replace their current vehicles because they have to haul their livestock in trailers, sometimes much further than an EV truck can even dream of right now. The same goes for my friends in the contracting business, they need a truck that can do it all, carry payload and tow heavy equipment reliably on a daily basis.
Now does Joe Office really need a Godzilla powered Duelly so he can tow his McMansion sized camper to a state park once a year? No, absolutely not. In my personal opinion he could downsize a bit instead of demanding the park cut down even more trees to fit his abomination, but there are indeed working trucks that take abuse these EVs can not. There are also plenty of people who live in remote towns in the mountains and out in the plains and even in "tech dead zones" like me where owning an EV would take considerably more consideration than owning a gasoline vehicle, despite them otherwise filling my needs easily.
I've watched some of Alex's off road videos previously, didn't know you guys knew each other??
Is it bulletproof too...??
Alex is going to bring another fun element to TFL!
1:32 Jeep called. They want their seven slotted grille back.
Why do people always think a shorter wheelbase is better for off-roading? You can get over bigger obstacles with bigger wheelbases and they are more stable at high speeds.
No, that's not the sticker price. That's the MSRP. They're selling for way higher than that.
Not being able to manually open the rear gate is a major fail. As a Wrangler owner, its is very common for me to not be able to open the rear gate all the way due to other things in the way. Having the gate be power only is going to cause it to hit things, like other peoples cars. Especially since that gate is so large.
Got to be a sensor in there somewhere, right?
The tail gate shouldve got barn doors
The barn doors on our van blocked rear visibility right down the middle.
Love the look, hate the tech. Given their track record, these will end up in landfills shortly after their warranty runs out. Even the H2 will be on the road long after these are.
It would have been great to have an "Old Goober" package. Same body sans all the tech. With a V8. Just a V8.
Does it break down every time it goes off-roading? It looks too much like the old Hummer H3 Alpha...
For such a big vehicle, my 2016 4runner has more cargo capacity, still not a bad looking vehicle though. I like the Satan look. I think I would prefer another brand ( domestic )than one from the big three.
I had the same thought. Cargo capacity is kind of disappointing considering how huge this vehicle is.
It great they made that new model. At least now the driver can get in the back and have a nap while waiting for the tow truck to arrive.
How will anyone be able to open that GIANT rear door with a trailer? My guess would be you don't.
Alex looks like she’s never missed leg day in her life! “Do you even leg bro”😊
No wonder my Rivian shares have been suffering. Looks like a really solid vehicle. The battery is huge which is great, but how many miles will it really do on a KWh of power? I ask because if it is only a 300 mile range, charging is going to take up a lot of your time.
KWh of power?
kWh stands for kilowatt hour - it's the way we measure "energy"
I stand corrected. But the key point is energy efficiency. My UK Volvo XC70 diesel has a 68 Ltr tank of diesel giving it a range of 500 miles. The energy (I almost wrote power then lol) in a ltr of diesel is about 8 kWh, but ICE efficiency means only 3kWh of that energy goes into propulsion. So my ICE Volvo has a fuel tank the equivalent of a 200 kWh battery. So I think EVs make total sense for super aerodynamic vehicles like the Model Y but the maths on the amount of energy to move a huge SUV or pickup are less convincing. However I was super excited yesterday to hear the announcement of the first 500 Watt per KG energy density battery, now that’s twice the energy density of current cells, so I expect in 3 years, most ICE applications will lose out to battery electric vehicles. Thanks for the correction on power vs energy, as someone famously said… Doh!
Congratulations on getting early access.
Never understood why they would make the rear hatch open towards the curb in the US when it would make more sense for it to open towards the street or just the standard way like 99% of the suv and minivans do
Definitely surprised there is no 3rd row.
So it's double the price of my Durango. Less cargo space, less range, 1 less row of seat, and require an hour to charge? I gotta go cancel my reservation on this thing...
Magnificent job tommy your doing spectacular
OMG no way can I dream of paying that much for a car my house wasn’t that much so not getting one ever. Nice video but I don’t print US currency.
I believe the 3 row SUV version should be planned for the future by GM most probably in the longer wheel base corresponding to the truck version. The same will happen to Rivian.
The Rivian R1S already has 3 rows.
@@shegraha That is a fake 3rd row designed like it is usual in most SUVs for children without legs and as torture for mother-in-law. Instead I meant a vehicle with a third row for grown up American adults the way it is in Chevrolet Suburban, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Ford Explorer extended base or in the worst case like it is minivans designed for the North American market. A Rivian SUV using the same wheel base as the truck can accomodate what I am writing above but not R1S with a shortened wheel base vs the truck.
This thing looks absolutely perfect in my opinion
