The show returns for a brand new series, and this time dietician Lucy Jones, consultant Shaw Somers, GPs Gio Miletto, and Pixie McKenna, are using food to try to tackle an even greater array of common illnesses. The first patient to be seen is four-year-old Jack from Lincoln who suffers from atopic eczema. Next is Beth from the Wirral who has rheumatoid arthritis, and Adam who eats neither fruit nor vegetables.
You are what you eat, as the saying goes, and for the people who are featured in "The Food Hospital," it couldn't be more true. The series, which examines the science behind the use of food as medicine, tracks the progress of experiments conducted on patients who have a range of medical conditions.
The patients have detailed consultations with specialists, including a gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon, a dietician and a general practitioner, before they are assigned a particular diet. Subsequent episodes detail how the patients are doing as they attend follow-up appointments to monitor their progress.
