Sorry to rain on your parade, and it's not any fault with your filming which is spot on, but I watched this and cried. I was born, and lived in Torbay for thirty years, none of the three towns are a patch on the way they were then. They were each quite different but beautiful in their own way, and there was intense rivalry. Torquay was the English Riviera, very classy, slightly snooty, well groomed. Now it can't make up it's mind if it's Blackpool or Morecombe. It's tacky and just like any other bog standard money grabbing fair ground. Noisy and brash. Sad, I will remember it as it was, a natural beauty, enhanced with hundreds of beautiful flower beds, and a myriad of fairy lights, a Rock Walk, flood lit at night with colour, palm tree and shrubs, with alcoves to sit and look out to sea. It's no more, just paths and bare railings. I suppose if it doesn't make money today, its left to rot, if it does it's dolled up like a trollop. Very sad.
Good ole Torquay...beautiful memories from the early eighties till the mid nineties...Nightclubs like Tiffany's, Monroe's... Bars and Cafe's like Hop 'n Grapes, The Piazza... to name just a few....but most of all, many dear friends and beautiful girlfriends.... perhaps I should go and have a look again myself after almost 30 years... ☺ Thanks for the upload!
Thankyou for the walk, so many shops gone, but that's all over the country, it's very run down , bins overflowing not nice at all, was thinking about a break there but having seen it , not for me, this is the great thing about these walks gives you an insight on places.
Hi Fran-Kitty, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Yes these videos are a great way to see places you are thinking of visiting. It can really help to decide where to go.
...I'm originally from Torquay, was a resident there 21 years ago, (I left 21 years, I returned back to Torquay for 1 year, before that I lived in Cyprus 15 years, so around 31 years away) I grew up there on and off from age 3 to 27, I've lived around the world, around 7 countries, I live in Taiwan now, 20 years here and married to local and have a daughter. Just seeing this video brings back all I used to see. What a perfect walk of Torquay town center, love to have seen Castle Circus where I would hang out a lot. Last address was Broad Park Rd. Love British countryside, over top of Barton down to the farmlands. I still have the buzzing of bees and butterflies in my mind as I sometimes walked all the way to Goose Inn. Seeing rabbits and foxes running around in fields and owls in the trees, here it's just a shabby concrete jungle full of traffic noise, pollution is quite high. Ugly buildings. Life here is vastly different. One thing I noticed and forgot about UK, people walk fast there, here walk slowly.
see some interesting shops in the town there quite a few people out lots of boats in the harbour and still shops too enjoyed this virtual walk *a well deserved like👍Au👍fully viewed*
Last time my wife and I were out there, in 2018, we really enjoyed the Rock Fish Cafe (14:38) and there was a place a little further on (but I can't remember which one, or if it even still exists) that sold the best, booziest rum-raisin ice-cream we've ever eaten.
Hello, my dear friend! What a fascinating ambiance! Loved it! It's so nice to discover this lovely towns and very enjoyable to walk with you every time. BIG embrace and stay blessed! Ciao! Renata
I lived and grew up in the bay from 75-98 such,a Great place to grow up as a teenager....,endless summers on various beaches ,the nightlife and nightclubs were excellent in the early 90s As the majority of work is in the catering industry/retail.. it's a hard place to live with poorly paid work and very seasonal..a nice place to visit occasionally..but so glad I left !
Sad to see so many of the big stores gone & boarded up - Things have been tough on the seaside for a while now. Be interesting if you could go for an evening walk around the harbour & up Rock Walk to get quite a different vibe. What day of the week was this, do you remember?
Good old Torquay. I've given up trying to overtake certain people who are persistently in the way: instead, I let them get away from me. It's easy enough to find some odds and ends to point the camera at for a moment or two - a shop, a building, back where we've been, the sea, whatever...
Thanks for watching. We have other walks in Torquay where we show the real beauties and wanted to make this one different. Check those videos out and see if they cover the parts you would like to see. If not, please let us know what you would like to see and we'll try and make a video to show those places.
