This very detailed tutorial was the only reason I had the guts to attempt making this cake. And I cannot believe it but we pulled it off! Took my sister and I almost two whole days, and could not have done it without u. Thank you so much!! For anyone attempting this- making an octegon from origami paper to create the cake base made this so much easier. We also used a foam circle instead of the rice krispies, and because we feared the weight would be too much we added a second base that we fastened with bolts right about the foam circle, placing the blue and yellow cake and everything above on that.
Wonderful job! Right now you have 92 people giving you a thumbs down - how could this great effort and talent deserve even 1? We all have our hobbies and if we want to spend 2 days (or more for me I am way slower at this) making amazing cakes for the ones we love just so they can be chopped up and eaten (some ends up in the bin too usually) then good on us. Great cake again x
A brace feat! Love it!!! How clever to use an adapted 'upside-down' type method for icing the awkward little side shapes-brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
I have watched a LOT of cake videos and I have to say your techniques are so smart. I learned more from watching this video than any other i have seen. Thank you so much for posting!
Oh my gosh...3 full days... LORD JESUS... help me😩your sacrifice was so worth it... If I was your son I would talk about this cake for the rest of my life... Extraordinary work sweets... God bless❤️
I made a 2ft tall paw patrol tower in June and couldn't figure how to do the slide so I omitted it. Thanks for the idea now I know what to use for my next order.
So I my grandson wanted a Paw Patrol Birthday Party... His older Cousin wanted Pirates Of The Caribbean, so he got a Black Pearl Ship Cake. Not to make one feel less then the other.... I opted for the Look Out Tower as well. I googled and googled and gave up.... So I started this cake before finding your video. It's a much smaller party, so I opted to just do the top as cake. And had already built the base of the tower from Styrofoam Blocks, and Fondant. Securing everything the way you did. I actually only came to RUclips to find the video of the show, in hopes to get some answers for design purposes when I stumbled upon your video. So glad I did. Your options for the slide is so much easier then what I was going to do lol. Well I guess I should get back to it. Next cake is Minnie Mouse 😅
This is awesome! My wife showed me the video on a repost and I love it! The cake itself is fantastic overall, but I am also intrigued by several things you do differently than many people I've seen -- like turning a cake over after covering it with fondant to get sharp edges on the bottom and more easily cut away the excess with even lines, and the way you extrude around a cake as a way of measuring how the extrusion should be instead of measuring both separately. Very cool! Subscribing! :)
Ariana Lipman Thank you so much for the compliments! I just love simplifying things and making it more accessible for everyone to achieve a sharp & clean result 😄. I'm glad you enjoyed this tutorial and I hope you also enjoy the rest of my video's 😊😊😊.
Hi, I love this, and my son did too. He would like it for his birthday. Would it be possible to get the templates for sizing? And how tall was the finished product? And how did you store it? Thanks for answering all my questions and the help making my son's birthday amazing too!
This is incredible. By any chance would u be able to share how much this sort of design would cost. Such intricate detail I’d imagine should be worth a lot. I’m a caker and I have a hard time getting my clients to not haggle me on my prices. They don’t realize how much ingredients/time/energy go into such artwork
I hope this message finds you still Caking, and not haggling. Stick to your guns sweetie. I am also making this cake, came here to find the cartoon in hopes to catch a glimpse of the tower lol found this instead. I have ppl coming tomorrow to the birthday party, and I know they will want to get me to make cake. I am sure they hope for free ... I will be explaining before they start asking that this cake is worth every bit of $250-300, probably more with more established cakers.. I just got started selling my creations so I don't charge as much as I should. But I don't allow haggling. If they want a cheap cake they can go to Walmart 😅
I would like to make this for my nephews birthday. Looks awesome by the way. How big is the board? How long is dowel rod? What do you cover the board with? Can I buy the tower template anywhere? Many Thanks
I noticed in the video you said you couldn't think of a way to do the slide ahead of time because your cake measurements could be off. I'm doing this section in Rice Krispie treats formed inside a tall plastic glass, then removed. It will be more of a cone shape, smaller at top and wider at the bottom as the drinking glass. Can you tell me the best way to make the slide ahead of time? I've tried every way I can think of with no luck. Did you use tylose in your fondant to stiffen it up for the slide and lookout scope on top of the tower? And one last question please... You mentioned the rice krispie section was 6" wide. Based on that can you tell me what size the cake was (blue and yellow) before you carved it? And how big was the tower cake on top? I'm trying to get all my dimensions to be proportionate. I was not able still to create a template. Thanks so much for your time and help. Mine is coming up shortly and I need to get to work on the things I can do in advance! :)
Hi :). If you're making the tower out of RKT ahead of time, you could try making the slide out of modelling chocolate of shape it with gumpaste and use toothpicks to hold it up while drying. I didn't use tylose in my fondant for the scope and the fondant around the cardboard slide. Based on the RKT section that is 6" wide. The lightblue part should be a cake that is 8" at the wide part and 7" at the narrow part. The tower cake on top of that is 7" at the wide part and 6" at the narrow part. The red rim is 8" and the tiny red cake underneath the scope should be 4" at the wide part and 3" at the narrow part. Good luck! X
Where can I buy the dowel, bolt, ring and rivet nut and what height should the dowels be? This is an amazing tutorial but maybe I little daunting for a beginner like me as I'll probably mess up the measurements 😂
Your cake was amazing! My son would love this! By any chance do you have the measurements for the cakeboards you used, especially the hexagon cakeboards you cut out. Also, how tall was the cake and how many pounds of fondant did you need to complete the cake? Sorry so many questions- 😅
Peggy Covault Thank you so much! I hope my answers help you a bit 😊 You could make this cake any size you would like, depending on the amount of servings. I believe the height of my cake was around 50cm/19,5". I haven't written down the sizes of the octagon cake boards, but what I did was print out an image of the lookout tower in the scale that I wanted my cake to be. Then I measured one of the 8 sides of the printed image and cut out the octagon with this measurement on every side - I'm guessing it was 6cm/2.4" per side. Then I measured the width of one of the 8 sides from the middle part, because the tower slants and cut a cake board with this measurement on every side aswell. I'm guessing this 4cm/1.6" per side. The measurements I'm giving could be off (sorry, can't remember them 🤔) but I hope I explained how I measured it, so you could make your own template with a printed image. For the top part of the cake - I measured the width of every single section e.g. the rice krispies section was 15cm/6" wide, so I pressed the rice krispies in a 15cm/6" diameter baking pan etc. This is a link to the image I used for this cake: www.google.nl/search?q=paw+patrol+tower&client=ms-android-samsung&source=lnms&tbm=isch#imgrc=SngA2HZK0EDtqM: Lastly, I don't weigh my fondant 😂 - so it's just a wild guess here, it could be 2-3kg/4-6lb. I hope I could be of help, even though I didn't answer your questions exactly 😘. Good luck!
Hello there, Making this cake for my sons 5th birthday. Can you tell how many recipes of chocolate cake, vanilla cake and buttercream you used to make your cake? I'm aiming to do the same size. Thank you!
Hi Irma, how cool! I don't remember exactly, because I didn't write any measurements down and made this 1,5 years ago 😊. I think I used a double recipe of my chocolate cake and 1,5 recipe of my vanilla cake. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!
@@TheCakeBakeBoutique one more question: could I make the chocolate and vanilla cakes in advance and freeze them and then thaw a day before and decorate? Thanks
Hi again! I am having no luck getting a copy place to print to scale. My printer is unable to do it. I'm making a 2 tier stacked cake 10" & 8" with the tower on its own board on top. The total tower height of mine will be approx. 11-12" tall. About 4" taller than the height of the stacked cakes. Do you happen to remember the width of the octagon cardboard shapes (top and bottom) you used? What size cake did you use for the rice krispy treats and the tower cake? I can probably go from there and figure something out for the rest. I really wanted mine to scale too. I have no idea why they can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Any tips on printing to scale would be helpful! Thank you again. I've got 2 weeks to figure it all out. :)
Music62 Aahw that's weird, a copy place should be able to print to scale 🙈. I just printed mine at home though, I just printed multiple pages and taped them all together. I sized the picture of the tower in Word and copied it over multiple pages - for the top, bottom & side details and then taped all seperate pages together 😊. As for the sizes of the octagons, I really can't remember 🤔, but I think I mentioned it in previous comments below - maybe this helps? For the size of the RKT - I used the template to measure the width of the darkblue section and used a baking pan that has this width. I hope I explained it clearly 😉.
Yes, my husband and I went to 2 places and they put the template in a copier and try to enlarge it that way! It does not come out to scale. I don't know how else to explain to them what I want when I say I need it printed to scale. lol Anyway, Thank you for time in answering all my questions. You make it look so easy and yours is perfection! :)
Hello, the cake is amazing. I'm making this for my son's birthday but I'm wondering how many batches do I need from each recipe. Pleeeeease reply Thanks
rwayda raydan Cool! It all depends on how large you'll need the cake to be. I believe I used 1-1 1/2 batch of each recipe, but I can't remember exactly 😊
Claudia Mayorga Hi! I can't remember the exact measurements I used 🙈. For the bottom part, I think I used 10" square cakes and for the top part, 4", 6" & 8" round cakes. If you have the template in the right size, you can measure the width from left to right from the different sections to determine which baking pans to use. For example: measure the width of the red part of the tower - let's say it is 4" wide - then use a 4" baking pan 😊. I hope I explained it clearly 😉. Good luck!
This is the best tutorial anywhere for the tower!!! I've watched them all. I am making a tower to go on top of two cakes underneath - a 10" and 8". Do you think the tower (middle section) would be strong enough if made of Rice Krispie treats? Would I carve it the same or make it round, or rectangular with just 4 sides? I plan to follow the tutorial for the rest of the tower, but do not need the middle to be done out of cake. Do you know of a way to smooth the RKT so they are not bumpy and the fondant will be smooth over the RKT?Thanks for your help!
Ed Delgadillo Hi Ed, thank you so much for your compliment 😄. I'm looking forward to see your cakeproject! RKT is supersturdy, so I think it will hold up well as the middle section and as an octagon shape too (first make squares like I did with the cake, let it set in the fridge and then carve, to make the sides of the RKT smoother then when shaped with your hands). You can add a layer of buttercream or ganache over the RKT to make it extra smooth, before applying fondant 😊. I would suggest placing a dowel or 2 inside the RKT, just to be sure 😉. Good luck!
Jessica Newton You could make this cake any size you would like, depending on the amount of servings. I believe the height of my cake was around 50cm/19,5". I haven't written down the sizes of the octagon cake boards, but what I did was print out an image (link in description box) of the lookout tower in the scale that I wanted my cake to be. Then I measured the width of one of the 8 sides from the middle part, because the tower slants and cut a cake board with this measurement on every side aswell. I'm guessing this 4cm/1.6" per side. Hi Sarah, you could ice the cake with buttercream and not cover it in fondant, but the details, like the door e.g., would still need to be made with fondant. If you don't use a centre pole, the cake will definitely collapse as it is wider and heavier at the top 😉
Hi Abbyliciousz, I'm making the paw patrol cake next week for my 3 year old and wondered if you are able to share the template? I'm not confident assessing the size and measurements. I'm happy to purchase your design from you if you're able to share. Thank you, Lisa
Do you happen to know how much fondant you ended up using in total? First time user here and I'm going to attempt this for my daughters 3rd party next weekend. Fondant is just crazy expensive around here and I'm on a rather tight budget!
Damn girl!! That's amazing. I wish I had some skills like this... I had to pay over $200 for my sons paw patrol cake. And it's pretty basic, not even a structure nor character.
good evening is what I can have the dimensions of your cartons to make the forms because I must make cake for a birthday and it will be a first for me thank you
abby, this is pretty scary for me! I'm no baker and just last year when we moved to the UK I discover that I know how to bake haha :) I made my daughter a construction theme cake with digger around during her 3rd birthday and this year she wants a look out tower!!!! oh gosh :) I stumble on your tutorial early this year and I'm like should i write you or not? and till I@m down month before her birthday :). just wanna say i love your work and its lovely to know that your half Filipina like my daughter :) i will try to record a video of my own look out tower inspired by you and i blame you for making this look so easy! :) more power to you abby and God bless you. lots of love , edy

Best of the best!! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Hi there. What was the length and the height of the cake? Thanks
How many inches cake do you made it. 💐

Good luck!

Do you have the cake sizes / cake board sizes used in this tutorial?
Jessica Newton You could make this cake any size you would like, depending on the amount of servings. I believe the height of my cake was around 50cm/19,5".
I haven't written down the sizes of the octagon cake boards, but what I did was print out an image (link in description box) of the lookout tower in the scale that I wanted my cake to be.
I hope I could be of help, even though I didn't answer your questions exactly. Good luck!
This is so cool. Do you have The recipes for the creams and the cakes? My son would love this cake so much.
Thanks so much! The recipes are linked in the description box 😉
What is exact width of both the hexagons??
What if i didn't use Fondant what would happen?
And what if i didnt use the metal rod or center pole?
Hi Sarah, you could ice the cake with buttercream and not cover it in fondant, but the details, like the door e.g., would still need to be made with fondant. If you don't use a centre pole, the cake will definitely collapse as it is wider and heavier at the top 😉
Hi Abbyliciousz, I'm making the paw patrol cake next week for my 3 year old and wondered if you are able to share the template? I'm not confident assessing the size and measurements. I'm happy to purchase your design from you if you're able to share. Thank you, Lisa
Yumm😋😋
the cake is amanzing. Can you post the template or tell the size of the cakes you used please
Do you happen to know how much fondant you ended up using in total? First time user here and I'm going to attempt this for my daughters 3rd party next weekend. Fondant is just crazy expensive around here and I'm on a rather tight budget!
Alysha Nickles Hi! I'm sorry - I never weigh my fondant, because I always have it available in bulk. Good luck with this cake 😊
Woooow wooooow wooooooow
Wooooooow 😱 increible
It is perfect! Congrats
What do you use for measurements?
Rebekah Alley For baking a measuring scale and for fondant or carving different kinds of rulers or a measuring tape :)
Ola muy lindo... Cual es la altura de este pastel.. Gracias... :)
Damn girl!! That's amazing. I wish I had some skills like this... I had to pay over $200 for my sons paw patrol cake. And it's pretty basic, not even a structure nor character.
Is the chocolate cake suitable for all parts of this cake?
Yes, definitely :)
This is just amazing!! Great work... Thank you so much for sharing. Big fan from Brazil. ❤
