What Ever Happened to the Tahoe 5th Wheel?

- IT FINALLY HAPPENED!! The 2003 Tahoe 5th wheel is being completed!!
I stopped by Cassone's RV to find Chad and Micah had torn a 2003 Tahoe 5th Wheel Toyhauler from cap apart due to some "delamination." Unfortunately I missed the before, but this is the more interesting part anyway. So now with the front wall "unwrapped" the estimate and repairs can start.
Again, this is why I recommend having the rubber roof ontop of the front and rear caps as I have seen this way too many times.

Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed this one. The extra details and time allotted were appreciated.
Glad you liked it!
Very well done on this effective repair that was a way to save this 5th wheel from the scrap heap. As far as the front cap is concerned that is. It's also very cool to see how you approached this repair and kept it cost effective enough to make it worth doing. So instead of being retired/totaled out and scrapped/junked. The owners can now enjoy their 5th wheel with a well sealed off front cap that should last for quite awhile. Great as always my friend thank you for sharing and showing an effective solution to an issue that many 5th wheels and trailers end up having...
Hey thanks for the compliment!
They really saved that one from the scrap heap. Excellent work. I’ve seen those done with metal front wall, but this looks better.
Thanks!
Outstanding effort by James, Chad and crew!. Most would have not even taken this on due to the older tech construction, but doing the research for solutions paid off. Y'all really put the customer first!! 👏👏👏👏👏
We always try
Thanks for another educational video. I hope the owner enjoys it and the repairs work out for them. Stay safe.
Thanks!
Thank you James for what you do and share with us.
Understanding no two situations are the same, can you share what one might expect a similar repair to cost, assuming the same process, materials, personnel and Cassone’s? Keep up the fine work and again, thank you for making and sharing these videos with us!!!
I can't even give you a ballpark! That's how many variables there are
My hat is off to you. Jobs like that are usually pure heartburn. Glad the owner appreciates it.
Thanks 👍
Always a pleasure to watch a professional at his work. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome
Wow.
I'm dealing with a rotten Thor Tahoe as well. It's a never ending ordeal. I was just going to reseal the trim and ended replacing the face and the front roof frame.
But BIG thanks to you for teaching me the best way to deal with it! This was super helpful!
I was going to get some aluminum siding from Hemet Valley but instead I replaced the filon with diamond plate. It looks super.
Awesome! Thanks for watching! :)
@@AZExpert I need to reattach EPDM rubber front section on a Thor Tahoe. Most of the rubber still has thin layer of wood backing stuck to it, so it's like glueing wood to wood, but there are some exposed sections. I was wondering if Liquid Nails construction adhesive would work, or might it damage the rubber?
I only need to do a 3' section and don't want to wait days and pay $76 for the Dicor...
Do you think that would suffice? Or should I just get the Dicor or something else??
Thanks!
Or I have 3M 90 spray?
My Winnebago has Azdel walls and I'm impressed with them, as always great work and pride in craftsmanship , Thank you for educating the masses. I also appreciate the post credit scenes 😂🤣👍👌
It's always fun to put the extra stuff in :)
I resealed the rv roof last week ,(Just coming into spring here ) I drop the front slightly as when it rains the water runs off the front of the rv not the back where the bedroom is ,
No drip drip drip sound all night ,
But i do check my roof every 3 months as the sun in Australia would be the same as AZ , Bloody hot ,,,
Great vid as usual ,

Australia
I would keep checking it. The sun there is just as brutal I imagine
@@AZExpert i agree
Bunch of great detail work. Hope the owner gets at least a few more years use out of it. As always, nice job man.
I hope so too
@@AZExpert so do i
Thanks for how you educate and teach with your videos! I’d love to see how you would reconstruct the whole front end of a class C. We are about to do this on our class C.
Thanks!
I've learned so much from your channel James. The biggest thing is that I know I will leave any repairs for my unit to a professional. LOL
It's a good idea
Excellent work as usual. Really learning a lot from your channel. Thanks James.
Thanks!
Great video and job. Happy trails!
Thanks Phil
Thanks for the video - as you say, it's sometimes a fine line between spending too much, or too little, money on the repair.
Very true!
👍👍 On the initial water damage, owner of this Tahoe should've had James take a look at it and repair it. Then, all this wouldn't have happened. At least this time around, James and his friends fix it the right way. James, great job as usual.
Thanks for watching!
Another great job James. Sure looked like the rear cap section also has major water damage. Had a similar 33 ft Wonderer Transport toy hauler that I sold before any damage like this occurred. I knew it would be just a matter of time due to the poor workmanship of these trailers that leaks would happen just like you repaired.
it did have a few water issues for sure.
What size are you using for corner trim? My brother and I are attempting to repair the front end of my travel trailer and I also need the larger size to help with side panels. Tia
Hi James, Quick question. I am replacing the membrane on my 2010 5th wheel Denali by Dutchmen and once I got the old one off, there remains a very sticky glue on the chipper board. Not my preferred materiel but I suspect it's for cost reasons. Is there something that can be used to remove the glue or is laying down a thin plywood over it the way to go? Great videos BTW very informative.
The problem is it will do this again because the owners don’t maintain it. Got to get up there twice a year and inspect all seams.
I agree
Once or twice at least. That turned out superbly.
I think so too
How much would a job like this cost? I have the exact trailer with rubber roof damage and damaged wood on the roof needing replaced, since I see you have done this job before I’d like to see if you might have time to do it over again on my trailer
Wow front cap looks spiffy new. Nice job!
I wonder with all the other damage you mention this poor rv has, sidewall, floor and back roof, was it still worth doing? Cheers 🍻
I think for the owner it was!
I just have to wonder how secure the hitch itself is ? You do a fine honest job young fella .
At the top cap where the rail is would it be ok to fill in that rail with dicor self leveling. Seems to me it would hold water if not. I see a lot of people installing eternabond over it. Just curious 🤔
Do you have any idea what cost of the new wall material was? I have done all the replacement of damaged wall just need the new material.
Why did they Not put glue under the whole front section as they worked their way up to the top? What about delamination thar wasn't addressed during install
Oh Noooooo. Roof repair tape. I can't believe you didn't repair the whole camper and charge that guy $100,000. ha ha...good Job James, Bad Chad, Thomas and Mica and Mr. Cassone.
*internal screaming* lol
@AZ about how many hours work time did it take to do the repairs? Ball park what did yall charge to do it? Thx
Glad Hemet Valley Rv is still doing good things for the repair side of the industry. They supplied some 38' long aluminum sections for my old Rampage 5th wheel 10+ years ago. Is the owner of the Tahoe going to do anything about that poor rear cap at another time?
Ive had nothing but good experiences with hemet valley rv
Fluting pliers might work well for putting on the side molding.
Thanks for the tip
I have a air powered shrinker sitting in my shed. It’s OLD. Your right, makes all kinds of marks
thats an uncommon tool to have
@@AZExpert my grandad ran an electrical sign business. Some were oval, round etc. He got the shrinker and spreader (expander) to make the moldings for the edges of the cases. He had 2 pneumatic cylinders (one way). He mounted the two devices on an I beam. Rigged the air cylinders with return springs, a selector valve and a foot valve. We could curve angle aluminum and steel PDQ. All I have is the shrinker left
Great job bringing it back to life!
Thanks!
What is the average repair cost on a job like this? I am new to the RV world and purchased a fifth wheel from a private seller. Months after the purchase, I then found out why the previous owner didnt really put up to much of a fight when negotiating.. I've got photos that could help with understand my situation a bit better with some visuals if yall do quotes? Thank you for your time in advance!
Dude this is a great video showing hard work done right
Thanks!
It's Rick Grimes from the walking Dead fixing RV Trailers
I think you just gave the owner many more years of use of his toy hauler!
I think so too!
Do you have a link or brand name for the corner molding you used? The straight molding that is going over the corner molding? Also do you find a difference between commercial tpo vs "RV" Tpo? I really appreciate all of your videos. I have been learning so much from you. Took on a 97 gulf stream renovation inside and out with no prior RV experience. Your videos have been a lifesaver. Thank you so much!!!
I don't. Its generic RV molding usually from AP products here: amzn.to/3sgcd6E
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
This video is awesome! Job 1...Thank you James!
Hey Thanks!
Where did you purchase that cover for the front. PPDor something
Hemet Valley RV and siding
As always nicely done
Thanks!
Not sure if the dicor sealant is like 100% silicone? But if it is,, a good trick to trawel it out with your finger is to dab your finger in Simple Green first. Learn that from an older guy than me, and I am old I'm pretty sureYou knew this trick but you never know So I put it out there..
Thanks for the suggestion
Nice job done the back looks bad as well🙁
Baby steps
Hello!
I know this is super random, but I'm hoping you might be able to help me. I work at an international dealership in Ontario. We currently have a 2012 Monaco Vista with a Maxxforce 7 in the shop that needs a boost solenoid, lines and possibly a waste gate replaced as well. Just wondering if you could shed some light on the easiest way to access the valley to replace these parts? could we remove the rad, condenser and all that to access it better? or should we drop the engine and lift the chassis? there's only about 6" of clearance as is with the support bracket above the engine.
Thanks in advance for your help!
I can't imagine dropping the engine for those
Have you ever tried heating the molding up with a blow torch before bending?
It would ruin the coating
Geat job as usual. Thanks for the video
You're welcome
Nice job!
Thanks for watching!
I.love the job y'all do
Thanks a lot!
No wonder Chad’s a genius, he’s left handed……
He's the smartest. I'm the president of his fan club
I never noticed! I need to look harder! As I'm LH as well lol
I would imagine the Arizona Sun takes an even heavier toll on the RV roofing then another States
Its definitely intense
The sun is intense but it rains 3 times per year. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
Great job.
Thanks!
Tonights episode featured the entire cast ! 👍 Do you guys ever play tennis after your done ?
Usually Chess
@@AZExpert Lol ! But the courts are so close to the shop !😎🎾
What does a job like this cost to the customer?
Not glued to the front?
Hope the running lights got added after the fact lol .. Thanks for the vids , keep em coming .
You're welcome
I don’t like the way you installed front no sealant on underside of edges to help seal water intrusion
Watch the video again
Yeah gotta do what you can and let be what isn’t that good or important Thanks
Thanks
I have seen a LOT OF DIY’s A LOT OF SERVICE Departments videos. THEN YOU I HAVE BEEN WATCHING your videos. $$$$ I don’t know. But knowing you by your videos. If your doing the hands on work. Money no issue. Do it. Because what I’m going to lose on trade-in then buying a new one or a used new one. Then all the new problems that come with the new or used one. I’ll be getting. With you doing the work I know it’s fixed and it will be a lot cheaper in the big picture I just said.
Thanks for watching!
Are you planning to put the Tahoe sticker on the front cap? That would really dress it up.
Thats up to the owner
27:00 Hmm..did you say "the gentleman can have his mutt back"? now be honest 😊
Ill never tell
Those dicor products are the biggest scam ever. I'm sure you already know this though.
I understand the comment, but I have seen dicor last 20 years plus so I know its a good product.
👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
OK.... why is it that all of my stuff, I have to pay for stuff that will last "another 20 years ?" Why doesn't the stuff I have last 20 years ???????
And I really don't care about what cleans off the mess
Maybe take really good care of it and it will
First
You're so clever, the cleverest even :)
Nice job!
Hey Thanks!
