    I managed to add this to the main mesh texture as an overlay in one pass without duplicating the mesh by simply adding the base color texture to the base color and changing the blend mode to opaque. Fantastic tutorial! GAve me solutions for several ideas I was trying to implement! Thank you! May you be well!

      Yeah when this was made there was no overlay material and overlay materials are really useful

    most cool and efficient energy,plasma kind a material I found so far. Nice effect, low cost and with different textures very different results.

    I'm gonna say it again here in case you missed my comment from earlier, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see you do a tutorial on how to create the Splatter World Effect from games like Splatoon or Portal 2.

      I think it could be done with render texture but I have to test it out. I don't know how effecient it is to use render target for it.

    Loved this! It's exactly what I was trying to find for my sci fi melee game! I was wondering if there would be any way to have it light up in certain places? For example getting shot would cause it to increase in intensity at the hit location. Or would it be better to have another smaller fx pop up at the hit location?

      Did you get an answer?
      I saw a tut on how to Live mesh paint (a material) onto the player while in the game - from a gun firing by the enemy. (i.e. the enemy fires a paint gun - that hits the player and shows at that hit-spot as the material we created.
      But idk if it works. (because I didnt finish the tut since I dont have a gun setup yet and dont know how to calculate gun trace direction for SideScroller.)

    Hi, Great tutorial. Wonder if you can help with something. My character has blue tatoos on the back, and arms and I am trying to figure out how to make those tatoos glow with magical effects something similar to what you have shown in your video above. The tatoos will be used for manna effects in the game eventually. Could you help please. :) Thank you in advance.

    How would you apply such an effect to a more complex mesh?
    I have a base character mesh with armour pieces that are swapped out each with their own materials. When a character uses a buff I want the energy shield effect to show no matter what armour they are wearing, would I need to add this shader into every material and dynamically set material parameters?

    • @kenalpha3
      @kenalpha3 2 года назад

      Did you find out? I watched a tut that showed how to apply a material to ALL mesh parts of a character/object. It uses [not the exact spelling]: Get all material from actor > then change material to X > and a loop to do this for all mesh parts of the character. I'll look for the link.
      Can you direct me on how to switchout armor parts? (idk the best way to do this... or how the parts attach to character?) Ty.

    Hey this tutorial is GREAT!! the only issue im having is my material isn't emissive like it doesn't glow has anyone run into this issue?

    • @UnrealCG
      @UnrealCG  5 лет назад +1

      Try increasing the emissive value and also add post-process bloom to the level.

    I became a subscriber on patreon sir, I was just wondering... Everytime I try to make the electric one, I keep getting the error : [sm5] ( Node TextureObject) Texture Object > Requires valid texture. And also, whenever I try to make it more emissive it also doesn't work. Nothing happens when increasing the level of emissiveness. I also downloaded your project from your patreon and I even checked everything to be similar. Still no solution. Thank you in advance sir
