Your series has inspired me to reconsider going camping again and I am happy you are doing this testing so I can avoid the crap! LOL Thank you!
Thanks Luke, I really appreciate you taking the time to help us that can't afford the really expensive gear. I've had several times that I bought cheap camping equipment and regretted it. Hi Luke, hi Susie! Luke, thank you for this review. As amusing as the swimming pool was, it frightens me to think that some young family may be thinking this would be a good starter tent to begin camping with! As you’ve said before, this tent could be dangerous. If through inexperience they find themselves in the middle of nowhere…. Shame on Dicks! Frances
They are good if you want a basketball or a some sports equipment but other than that I stay away. Oh clothing is not bad either just usually overpriced in my opinion.

What a great service you give to all of us. I have learned so much from you. I had a rain experience with a cheap tent. I say it was a river runs through it for me
That would have been such a rude awakening, rolling into cold water. On the bright side, at least you have your awesome truck that you could go back into. Rainy days are so ASMR. I would have been lulled to sleep instantly by the rain pitter pattering on the roof. It would have been so serene waking up to the rain and then sitting in the truck bed, sipping on a hot cup of coffee while looking out nothing but pure nature. 😊 I hope the rest of your day was amazing.
Was watching this on my lunch and I had to explain to my co workers why I was chuckling so much. Great episode! I love how your channel has grown. Thanks so much for putting all these episodes out there 😊
Great presentation tonight....love your talks to your audience. That's cool. Appreciate all your hard research and work. Thank you. You helped all campers and survivor folks save tons of money especially us older warriors on VA pensions. Thanks again, Luke !! 👍
Would highly recommend the Coleman Darkroom Skydome 4P. Exceptionally waterproof and lets me sleep in during the morning sun. I was lucky enough to to get it at half the price it is now a few years back though.
Love the idea of "cheap tent" reviews. A hearty pat on the back for any discomfort you experience now and in the future!!! Personally, I take whatever size is listed and cut it in half. Much more realistic idea of usable size.
It's all about profit for some of these companies. They don't care about the safety of their customer's, just the money. Thank you for sharing and exposing them for what they are. Keep up the great work, and may God bless you and Susie.
Living for this. I am interested into getting into camping post college and acquiring some starter gear is a nightmare and you are showing how BS it is. Appreciate the search for quality and great content.
Upstate in the house today. I'm chomping at the bit for the weather to finally turn. The weekdays have been getting decent, but still in a string of crappy weekends.
Hi Luke, don't complain about rivers in the tent, after all that's what you wanted :-) Nevertheless, it is frightening what is thrown onto the market. Take care of yourself and thanks as always and I had a great time.
The best money I ever spent was on our only tent - a pop up 2 person dome tent back in 1982. $150 from Wal Mart. We wanted to go across the USA but motels would have broken the budget. So we decided to car tent camp. Husband used seam sealant on the tent. And in 12 years of camping we never saw a leak. And no condensation. And we went through some wrath of god prairie stranglers too. One in the Badlands. Bought a load of so called “survival” meals, just add water. Did the cross country trip twice, ten years apart. And many shorter trips to specific parts of the country. Some of our best times. We had fantasies do doing it in retirement. Glad we did it then. Because by the time we retired, we didn’t have the energy. I couldn’t crawl in and out of a tent anymore.
Is it just me because I haven't watched these videos in a while or is he looking jacked? 💪whatever you're doing keep doing it! Great video as always, and absolutely love Bento! Cheers, my friend, cheers!!
Hi Luke and Susie, I just enjoy watching and learning a lot. I'm new to your channel but I just love. This series you started on cheap tents is hilarious I couldn't stop laughing on the this lastest one. Makes me think about the reviews I read on purchases that I look to buy. Thank you from Natalie
I always figured consumer reviews were bs, thank God we have The Outdoor Gear Review. I really appreciate all the time you put into your channel for us to be better informed and thus better prepared. Hooah sir, and thank you.
I just love that Toyota... for being an older one it is in outstanding shape and looks perfect for what you do in your videos. Thank you for reviewing all that you do. When ever someone asks me about a camping product and I don't know anything I send them to your channel because I have followed your advice and guidance and never been unhappy.
You should do a video of all these tents... Sealed after you test them from the store. A test of your personal sealing of them. I see a trend where the cheap tents don't seal the bottom edge
But as he said in the video about the stove, is it worth the time and added cost? Spend a bit more and get a tent that doesn't need additional work to do the job correctly.
You know as far as these reviews, maybe by "water resistant", they mean it resists giving up all the water it works so hard to capture! Loving this concept of trying out cheap products.
Luke, FYI - its the mating time of the year for the coyotes which is most likely why you heard all of the calls. I'm loving this new series of tent review. Keep em coming. Also, I love your Patreon supporters title suggestion of "Legit or Sh#t. 👍
A perfect example of why you should always test your gear at home before going out in the woods. I'm surprised you did this Luke, I personally won't give Dicks a dime after they pulled what they did with guns.
Luke, are you sure you received correct item from the Dick's? Maybe it is a camping shower with a privacy wall. 🤪🤣 It's very annoying to buy gear without knowing if it is any good or a total piece of crap. Love your channel and reviews, so thank you for your hard work!
I am so loving these cheapo tent reviews. I hope you do the cheapest Coleman tent next, please. I really want there to be an alright cheap tent out there somewhere especially for us retired folks on low incomes. Blessings
My kids use a three person Coleman dome tent. It's okay. Watertight in at least light rain (didn't have heavier rain yet). Seems like it will hold heavier rain. It's on the heavy side. Easy to set up. They have one step up from the cheapest model with the larger vestibule. It's an older model though. Think 2019, so please inquire further.
Reading the tent's reviews - with your funny comments - Hysterical! Watch out for that waterfall when you open the tent door 🤔🤨 We're very lucky to have your reviews of this stuff!
These videos are a reminder of growing up in scouts and using a "4 person" tent for just one person and feeling like there was no room inside. I've been switching to tents with vestibule space but haven't used them yet.
This is exactly the situation I’ve been in every time I’ve gone tent camping in rainy wx. The one time I remember the most, one tent was lucky and just leaked badly getting everything damp, cold, and miserable. The rest of the tents were so leaky, they literally flooded. I remember seeing bags & sleeping bags floating in the in-tent pools.😢
Man love these video’s about buy a budget tent from different companies and see if anyone is selling a decent product that can be useful and not dangerous great job
Certainly a worthy detour in your video output that I would suggest is worth pursuing. Thanks for your output with your wife, which helped me when I was laid low recently with Covid. Coloroda looks awesome, especially. Keep it up.
I am handicap and am on a fixed income so I am grateful that you are doing this challenge. I don't have much money to spend on camping gear so it will be very helpful. Peace and honor my friend.
That dish looks awesome you’re like me I really don’t know I learned to cook but I just did one day and when my kid had there friends over swimming and riding the old atv and jumping on the trampoline I learned how to cook my wife worked in the ER and I was a firefighter the money wasn’t all that good while we were starting our beautiful little family I took so much lol but I made the best bbq chicken and Mac n cheese and cheddar broccoli and I’m not bragging but to this day those kids in the neighborhood turned out to be nurses military pilots and marines and every so often they come by and I’ll make that same food for them and there families it brings tears to my eyes and makes me smile !!
Glad to see you doing these reviews. Just goes to show, especially with outdoor gear, you get what you pay for. And cheap, most of the time, is exactly that, cheap! Keep up the good work and awesome reviews!!
When you climbed out of Bento in your socks, I half expected you to grab flippers and a snorkel! As always, a great video. Your honest reviews are much appreciated!
Checking out more of your videos and I think it's great that you do these reviews because you are right stores will sell the consumer anything. I'm always amazed at all the good reviews I see on Amazon and other sites especially on products I've purchased and had issues with. I always give a truthful review on my purchases because I want the next person to know if it's a good product or if it's worth their money and time. Great episode, I love your reviews. 👍👍
It's so important for people to see this. Thank you. This should be only sold as a backyard tent for those little campers (like I started in the '60's😅). But I worry about the parent that takes two kids on a camp and gets moderate rain or worse. Who would say " hey let's come back soon and do this again "
Hey Luke, since I’m from Moose Jaw Sk Canada, thanks for the shout out. That tent would not do well here Saskatchewan. The wind and rain we get on flat prairie land you would be blown away in no time.
This series is so important. I'm on an extremely limited budget - I know you get what you pay for (not always but when you're talking about super cheap, you can't expect premium qualit) but it should at least be serviceable and safe to use (for the intended purpose, I wouldn't expect a lightweight summer shelter to work in a winter blizzard.) To put it bluntly, it should do what it says on the tin! It can be hard getting into camping/hiking on a very limited budget (often RUclipsrs will have budget lists that are well out of my price range) but thanks to channels like this I've found some absolute gems. So far I have the decathlon backpack Luke recommended, decathlon down puffy jacket I found in a charity shop (thrift shop for Americans), merino base layers I got in the black Friday sales, a cheap grid fleece & synthetic wicking top from Decathlon, thermal tights from Home Bargains (one of those discount home goods stores), One Tigris quilt for summer, second hand Rab -10C sleeping bag off eBay, Trekology sleeping pad plus a cheap reflective foam mat off eBay (looking to upgrade to a better R value pad soon), Trekology trekking poles, cheap wood stove (free fuel!) and pot off amazon, and the Naturehike Cloud Up 2 tent without the snow skirt from Ali Express (cheaper than Amazon if you don't mind waiting for shipping) - got the tent after reading the comments on the TOGR review video, tons of people recommending the non-snow-skirt version and it's been amazing so far! The one slightly pricier item I got early on was a raincoat, I started with the Marmot Precip which I got half price on sale - it's a size too big and not the colour I would choose, but who cares! Great for hiking in light to moderate rain, can withstand hours of drizzle (I live in Wales, constantly drizzle is out default lol) or short durations of very heavy rain. Does wet out after that, but it's absolutely fine for the summer, and pretty lightweight. Not very breathable fabric but has put zips for heat/moisture management (a must for me!!) I've recently upgraded to the Outdoor Research Aspire (women's version of the Foray) as a more heavy duty raincoat for serious rain and cold weather, when being dry is a safety concern not just a comfort issue. Obviously it can be a safety issue in the summer too, the nights can be cold, so do your own safety assessment before each trip! In Wales the climate is generally mild, but I wouldn't go out with just the Precip during a cold snap or if torrential rain was forecast, and I would always have dry clothes, fire starting material, and an some kind of shelter with me, even for a day hike in the summer. There is an upgraded OR Aspire II out which means you can pick up the original one super cheap if you can find it - I got mine from eBay, second hand but unworn with tags still on, £65. This is a top tip - go for older season's gear! You can find great older items on eBay or discount stores online. Just Google it and see what comes up! I decided what fabric I wanted (gore-tex paclite or equivalent) what features were essential to me (pit zips and a peaked hood) and make a short list of jackets that meet the criteria. Then, look for past seasons or prior versions of the jackets, or older jackets by the same company. I then looked for reviews of the items, either Reddit, RUclips, blogs, or gear review sites. Don't get hung up on the current season's fancy features (don't watch too many RUclips videos about how awesome the latest £300 jacket is!) Simply focus on what really matters to you, and what conditions you will take it out in. Check the older models still meet your criteria (often they will) and if so, Google around and set up searches on eBay to alert you if one goes up for sale. Look for your size or larger, as it doesn't really matter for a raincoat. Ideally look for unworn/new with tags, but second hand can be fine too, just be prepared to re-do the DWR/water repellant coating as that's the thing that tends to fail with time/use. Do check that there aren't any holes or damage to the jacket, ask the seller outright so you have a record of their response. That way, if the jacket does end up being faulty, you can more easily get a refund. Always pay with PayPal so you have the best buyer protection - not everyone knows this but with PayPal you have 3 months to request a refund, and they almost always side with the buyer as long as you have a legitimate reason. Take photos and document everything, including conversations with the seller. If they told you it is mint condition but it clearly isn't, PayPal will definitely refund you. You can't rely on this 100% of the time, but I've never had an issue even after several months (sometimes it takes a while to realise the item isn't what the seller claimed it was!) Finally, be patient, be firm where necessary and flexible in all other areas, and always come back to your core criteria and how you will use the jacket. What do you NEED it to do, and what is an optional extra? What is vital for keeping you safe, and what can you compromise on? Try to totally disregard things like colour, style etc. Sounds obvious but as a girl who likes to look good, I have to consciously remind myself of this! Who cares about looking good when you're out in torrential rain or freezing temperatures, right? Staying dry and warm is a million times more important, for my safety as well as comfort. You should always be a smart shopper whatever your budget, but being on a very limited budget means you must go the extra mile to do your research, work out what you actually need, and be patient while you search for it. Always buy with your head, not your heart. Happy adventuring!
A lovely covered kiddies pool. Thank goodness Bento came to the rescue... Tent was a waste of a good 50 bucks when 50 bucks worth of tarp would serve better. Great review. 👍
Nice to meet Bento. As I have several rather cheap (although admittedly not THAT cheap), I think I will set them up in our garden when rain is expected. Just to see whether they will hold up during rain.
You need night vision camera equipment for seeing the animals. This old lady would love 💕 to be able to see what we hear on the videos 😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍. Thanks for sharing this enjoyable video with me 😊😊
I very much appreciate you keeping your channel language-free. I don't particularly like subjecting myself to language and I certainly am not in the habit of recommending channels with it to our girls or others interested in camping.
Hello, I have owned this quest tent for many many years. I love the color and find it suits my needs as a frog very well. It keeps the water in, flies in and again, even though i am colorblind I, as a frog LOVE this color....
Luke I appreciate and respect all that you do, and have been looking at a tent for over a year now called near zero. I don’t know if that is something that other people have asked for, but if so, count me in.
Hello 👋 Luke, thank you for sharing another honest review. You saved many people a lot of money. All the best to you and Susie. Stay safe out there. 🤗 👋
Luke, your comment about the reviews was spot on. Camping gear is very expensive. In the camping world, most gear sold has accessories that need to go with the item, that cost extra to make the item complete. Once again those accessory items are expensive. I believe each camping gear provider has a client base where they provide free camping gear to those clients who provide positive feedback for their review section of their online (Digital) websites. Thus the client provides a positive review & receives free camping gear in return. No honest upfront review going on there. It is an old fashion sales ploy used to hopefully boost sales from those who buy simply on reading the reviews of the product. To get an unbiased review of a product, try using RUclips and researching the product video online. It gives you a much better idea of what's going on with the product. Thanks for the video, I have already made up my mind that I will not be purchasing any tent from anyone as I do not want to wake up in a rainstorm soaking wet. I will camp out in my 4Runner.
Haha! I was in the "didn't know any better" group when it came to alcohol stoves. I picked up something that looks like a rebranded Red Camp. This was BEFORE watching your video, so down boy, down! Since then I've watched some comparisons and am really impressed with how the Trangia has withstood the test of time and still runs with the best of them. I recently picked up the smaller Storm Cooker and am very impressed. Much credit to the Paleo Hiker for making it easy to decide.
I've been waiting for reviews on what beginning campers can start at. I am on disability, which means I can get a bout one new item a year, if I want to afford to go camping at all. I have to use ozark trails stuff and make it work. I have to Gerry rig a lot of stuff, but I make it work, cause I love it so much. All the gear reviews I watch are reviewing some pretty expensive stuff, and it's nice to see real reviews on real stuff that beginners can afford. Buying a couple extra tarps, and moving blankets at harbor freight can make huge differences!😂😂😂 Love you and your whole family, your all lovely and so blessed! Be well brotha, and namaste😎🙏💛❤🧡💜💙💚
I truly appreciate your taking time to out to share your views Luke and testing of cheaper versions of tents you the Man, great Exposing camping disasters looking forward the next adventure, enjoy remainder week.
me and the boys camp a bunch and I have seen a fair amount of tent flooding over the years. I rock a klymite 2 person, and its incredible, my buddy the marmot 3 person and we have a great time....our other friends bring this pop up and oo boy that baby soaks up water. part of the issue is the trashy flys a lot of these "cheap tents" come with, bad shapes and no flow path for the water . if you buy one of these cheap tents its best to spend 10-30 bucks and get a good sized tarp to put over your tent during these types of rain events. probably great for a no rain summer camping experience but not good for those spring fall trips where u can get rain out of nowhere
Thanks Luke! I love your reviews. And all my purchases make sense to me. I would never buy a tent to just put a tarp over it. Or stove to modify it so it works. Buy once good quality and done! Cheers brother!
Hey Luke, you just bought a tent with a built in shower, thats rare, not really desireable but rare. Thanks for posting these great videos.

I hope the rest of your day was amazing.
Coleman exped if you can find one? Maybe ebay? The best
That is what I got and I love it. I have a few Coleman’s that have lasted 15+ years
Love the idea of "cheap tent" reviews.
I agree with you on this.
Living for this. I am interested into getting into camping post college and acquiring some starter gear is a nightmare and you are showing how BS it is. Appreciate the search for quality and great content.
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY brother thank you for sharing your adventures and equipment testing and sharing the facts and truth
Good morning from the Adirondacks, NY 😎
Upstate in the house today. I'm chomping at the bit for the weather to finally turn. The weekdays have been getting decent, but still in a string of crappy weekends.
I understand my friend
You've been working out! Need those muscles to fight that bear!
Hi Luke,
don't complain about rivers in the tent, after all that's what you wanted :-) Nevertheless, it is frightening what is thrown onto the market.
I thought the same thing
He totally is right now
hitting the gym and the trt
I'm greatful you're doing this review of market based tents. And God bless you and the family, you folks are wonderful folks
P..S. don't forget to put your life preservers on before entering the tent or pool area ! No life guard on duty ! :)
Going to have to rename your channel... "the outdoor gear review and gains!!!"
Thank you so much for keeping things honest and listening to your viewers! Luke, you are looking buff bro!! Get those Wolf Gains!!!
Luke, FYI - its the mating time of the year for the coyotes which is most likely why you heard all of the calls. I'm loving this new series of tent review. Keep em coming. Also, I love your Patreon supporters title suggestion of "Legit or Sh#t. 👍
You got me! I couldn't stop laughing when you micro-focused the water coming into the tent using your headlight!
A perfect example of why you should always test your gear at home before going out in the woods. I'm surprised you did this Luke, I personally won't give Dicks a dime after they pulled what they did with guns.
What did they do with guns? Yes I live under a rock.
i love what they did with guns. i support them even more now.
@zj_rides117 They refused to sell them and spoke for more gun laws to the point that some manufacturers decided not to sell to them.
@@zipzip8239 And that is your right to do so. As it is mine to not.
Zipzip would sign away all her rights for a monthly check. That's one person I wouldn't protect .
I had to watch this again just to hear your reviews! Cracking me up! 😆😆
I really like these budget tent videos.
I like the fact you use family friendly language and content because I can watch you while my younger children are in the room.
Reading the tent's reviews - with your funny comments - Hysterical! Watch out for that waterfall when you open the tent door 🤔🤨 We're very lucky to have your reviews of this stuff!
Happy Birthday Chris! Hope you had a great celebration 🎉
I love how you did this video, it's like watching my favorite outdoors video and an awesome review
Love this video! A good sarcastic review is a pleasure. Thank you for doing this.
And Luke I am new to your program, and I love them! Always looking forward to what is next!! Thank you! Strength and Honor!!
The Pup and Kitty revelation sparked great joy. Good video.
Yes, indeed that was a swimming pool 😆 🤣 😂
Thank you for another awesome review Luke.
KEEP ADVENTURING
GOD BLESS YOU
Checking out more of your videos and I think it's great that you do these reviews because you are right stores will sell the consumer anything. I'm always amazed at all the good reviews I see on Amazon and other sites especially on products I've purchased and had issues with. I always give a truthful review on my purchases because I want the next person to know if it's a good product or if it's worth their money and time. Great episode, I love your reviews. 👍👍
I love that your doin this going to help alot of folks not waste their money !!!
I'm on an extremely limited budget - I know you get what you pay for (not always but when you're talking about super cheap, you can't expect premium qualit) but it should at least be serviceable and safe to use (for the intended purpose, I wouldn't expect a lightweight summer shelter to work in a winter blizzard.)
To put it bluntly, it should do what it says on the tin!
Not very breathable fabric but has put zips for heat/moisture management (a must for me!!)
I've recently upgraded to the Outdoor Research Aspire (women's version of the Foray) as a more heavy duty raincoat for serious rain and cold weather, when being dry is a safety concern not just a comfort issue.
You can't rely on this 100% of the time, but I've never had an issue even after several months (sometimes it takes a while to realise the item isn't what the seller claimed it was!)
Finally, be patient, be firm where necessary and flexible in all other areas, and always come back to your core criteria and how you will use the jacket.
Nice review Luke...I was laughing with you all the way...only harder...thanks for your hard work in these reviews....freedom for all people...
Lookin yoked! Thanks for being real. I appreciate what you do, stay awesome.
Hey Luke Been watchin for years, just wanted to say that being real and staying real is so important very cool strength and honor my friend
This is a super funny video. Yea. We need more of these. I liked hearing the reviews from the website too. 😂😂
Reminds me of my canvas pup tent my BFF and I used to take to music festivals in the 70s.
The tent could be used as a camping bath tub🤣😂. Glad you show us what’s junk and what’s not. Love that your honest to help us out on what’s 💩
Falling asleep to rain 💙
I've been waiting for reviews on what beginning campers can start at.
I am on disability, which means I can get a bout one new item a year, if I want to afford to go camping at all.
I have to use ozark trails stuff and make it work. I have to Gerry rig a lot of stuff, but I make it work, cause I love it so much.
All the gear reviews I watch are reviewing some pretty expensive stuff, and it's nice to see real reviews on real stuff that beginners can afford.
Buying a couple extra tarps, and moving blankets at harbor freight can make huge differences!😂😂😂
Love you and your whole family, your all lovely and so blessed!
Be well brotha, and namaste😎🙏💛❤🧡💜💙💚
Common Maaan! All you need is a tent drain installed! Love it! TY Bro.
Love your right hand to drive landcruiser.great channel Luke!!
we love your show Luc Keep up the Good Work, aim from Canada and i wich you the Best of times luc.Take Care.... Jadefox.
This series is what had me subscribe.
I'm assembling some packs so every penny saved can count and saving by not buying crap is great.
Thanks for taking the tent home with you and not leaving it in the wood's. Because you know you are not supposed to leave TRASH in the wood's. LOL
I truly appreciate your taking time to out to share your views Luke and testing of cheaper versions of tents you the Man, great Exposing camping disasters looking forward the next adventure, enjoy remainder week.
You're vids always get better and better...amazing editing and info. And what a "soggy" review!
me and the boys camp a bunch and I have seen a fair amount of tent flooding over the years.
Looks like good cook'n! Enjoying your content. Thanks!
Thanks for the honest review, sorry you lost sleep😎👍 good day
Thanks Luke! I love your reviews. And all my purchases make sense to me. I would never buy a tent to just put a tarp over it. Or stove to modify it so it works. Buy once good quality and done! Cheers brother!
