I bought one last month and it's pretty much unfit to be a "security camera" for three main reasons: (1) It has a start recording delay of about 2-3 seconds. It may not seem a lot but it actually matters especially when it's supposed to be a security camera. When a car passes by in a relatively normal speed, the camera starts recording just as the car is about to leave the frame. What more if it's a speeding car? See 8:55 time stamp of this video. That's pretty much all you get. (2) The max 15 sec recording time. It's just not enough. (3) Delay in triggering another record when there's continuous movement. Observing the gaps, I estimate about 30 secs to 90 secs delay in between. That's more than enough time for a crime to happen. This may be useful for another purpose but definitely not as an outdoor security camera.
@@TechMishka Well it depends on what the human being plans to do. It will capture the person arriving but it won't tell me what he did after 15 seconds.
I have four of this camera now, and for the relatively low price it does quite well. But it is slow... takes a few seconds to trigger and record motion or capture an image. For example I have a bird feeding table with a cam on a tripod, and in the time it takes to capture a special moment, the bird is sometimes already gone. Yep I could buy something with much faster response, but for considerably more money$$$. You get what you pay for and this camera delivers accordingly.
Thank god for the comments mentioning the recording limits, I almost bought it... Also there was nothing mentinoned about the ability to record/view in the cloud, which I thnk is a super important option to mention and overview. Appreciate the review, but bummed about all the missing info :(
@@TechMishka Well, since you're doing a review for the benefit of others, perhaps consider covering the products' features nonetheless? Just a suggestion :)
I have 3 of these. Went for them as they advertised 3 months battery life and I was like - sure, I can grab the ladder every 3 months and charge it. Reality: 1 week, 2 weeks tops. Recording start is delayed big time, 15 seconds recording is nothing, and you can't actually keep it on the charger as it is then no longer water and dust proof, defeating the "outdoor" feature. Good picture quality and that's about it - I'm trying to return them and get a refund.
Dang! I thought I'm the only one going through this 🤦♂️ Mine similarly 2 weeks tops then it dies.... Still trying to figure out how I can extend to 90 days 🤦♂️
There is always the solution of the solar panel... Waterproofing? Add silicone sealant, avoid anything acid sealant and there will be no damages... Easy no? Maybe easier to return the camera ☺️
those cameras just is not like what you think, first do not records 24/7 only gets records when gets triggered the motion sensor or anything changes in the place, and only 15 seconds footage only, second the battery duration no will not get 3 months with them straight with certain luck 1 week or so, and the only good is the image quality besides that can not be watched the footage or managed through an computer and the existence of an SD Card slot or USB A is ridiculuous since all the time the fragments of video gets in the cloud but not in the card, and there is not an set up for make work on the SD card, so is an false ads of xiaomi or best said another half baked product of xiaomi and just the fans forgives all the half baked features or the fact that have to set up in china or even Singapore mi home to make things works.
They are not waterproof neither without charging. Mine died in a month. Got a conclusion: "Not a warranty case". And comment from official support that IP65 is not rain proof: "We have double checked with Tamet, official repair center for Xiaomi, and they shared that these cameras have IP65 normative that says that cameras are spillproof and disto proof... They can not be exposed to Rain or equivalent"
This camera can't do a 24/7 continuous recording. The motion-activated recording can be not helpful as it only records at max of 15 seconds. After that 15 seconds, there is a delay of 30 seconds before it starts recording again. This is bad because you might miss important footage. Or if you guys know a work around on this problem, then this can be a great camera at a great price.
Actually even on highest sensibility settings, it regularly fails to pick up movement as it's IR based detection. It picks up the movements only if they happen close to the camera or are IR specific - like cars (fails to detect people in coats that prevent some heat exposure in my case. It fails to pick up coated or wet surfaces of clothing as moving 50% of the time). And the 15sec max recording time is terrible, I would like a minute recording at least, despite hurting the battery (using it as a security camera in remote place, where it gets triggered once a day or so). If the detection gets some improvements and the max recording time gets longer recording time options - it would be really useful. Now it's not acceptable and I'm not satisfied with the product.
This is really a bad thing because it happens to me alot,i see like a shadow on the camara but when the person gets to the front of the camara it wont film again
Hi, thanks for the great review. I bought this and configured it for my home but I have daily outtages of where camera goes offline for 1-2 minutes. Thanks for the review. I'm wondering.. How would you know if it's fully charged? And does it auto shut off charging when it's full, preventing overcharging?
Wondering how it compares to Reolink and others. I previously had a Reolink Argus 3 but the motion detection (for me) was really poor and I believe the detection would be similar on this Xiaomi one.
How to turn off sensor on camera? I don’t need it because i want to save battery. Can camera be on charger all time? If we put something on sensors, are they will still work?
in my experience owning this CCTV is not a good one. I end up getting EZVIZ cable unit instead which is much more reliable connectivity compare the battery unit. Here are list of the problem 1. if you are lucky the battery can last you about 1 month depends on how much recording you have; else it can only last for 1 week. I have tested 2 fully charge camera, after 7 days one unit has already sending battery alert 20% left while the other has remaining 92%. I believe there is battery quality issue on different batch. 2. if the camera has been set to sleep mode, sometimes it doesn't auto wake up. Even manually waking it up has some issue. I had to restart the gateway unit in order to get the camera unit working again. 3. recoding detection has delay or no recording at all. If the person walk in the house in speed walking, there is no footage capture in the recording. Because this camera is conserving battery therefore waking up would have some delay in recording and turns out missing important footage when someone break entries. Overall, this product is not recommended despite the quality footage, practical use is a failed.
It is not bad battery, unfortunately... This seems to be a known issue with these cameras, where one for no apparent reason starts draining extremely fast, like even 20% a day, with just few recordings. I have sent already 2 to repair center, but this does not seem HW related. I managed to solve this issue by turning camera off/on soon after charging it to 100%. If I do not do this, it drains fast, if I do this - it works normal. So, some SW bug most likely...
excellent review!... can the camera work keeping it always connected to the power cable, or does it work only on battery with the power cable disconnected?... thanks
Thank you for the video! Quick question: would a Xiaomi Home indoor camera be able to be used with this router/gateway that comes with the outdoor camera ? Thank you!
Thanks for great review. I have the problem where the Camera keeps disconnecting from my network, better with the Gateway on the Wi-Fi and not on Ethernet and battery not maintaining charge and requires hard Power adaptor connected. Also noted there is a 5 seconds delays from the Video feed, not sure why as my Network is fast I thought. Wonder if there is some setting I need changing. Video Quality on Auto and tried lower quality and no change. If you have a SD card connected will it keep writing to it and overwrite after it is full? Also Settings - Addiitional settings - Security settings requires a 4 Digit Password. Cannot find what this is in the Manual.

Great review ! I have issue regarding detection or movement sensor. If someone is moving below balcony (distance 5-7 m) camera is not detecting anything. In tech specification I coudn't find what is the detection max range to trigger movement. What is your experience ? Of course I tried to play with detection sensitivity and now is high, also nothing. On 1-2 m is working, but this is not what I need. Any suggestion ?
My main complain, and the video was very explicit about it: the camera is not water repellent, we can see that it remains on it.... If the camera is exposed to rain, snow, etc both camera and sensor will become totally useless. After 15s video recording is...ouch Many complain about the short battery capacity, well there are other camera options that would last months or even a year, at 300$ minimum or you could install a little solar panel for 10-20$... The USB C port and waterproofing is not a problem, use a sealant like silicone type, avoid anything like acid sealant.
To further respond on your question, I bought four of this camera and connected them to one wireless hub. BUT it appears only three can be used at the same time. I'm watching three cameras live now, but if I switch on #4 it turns off #1 and vise versa. On my standard Android phone (6-inch display) it's only possible to see 3 cameras at a time, and if I scroll down to the 4th camera it usually switches off the 1st camera. Also if trying to sort the camera ordering it only shows 3 lines, so again I think three cameras per hub is the practical limit. Oh, and the battery life of these cameras if you keep them turned on all the time is only about 8-10 hours, so I found it best to install them with a wired power source. Hope that helps.
Hi! Thanks for the video. There is one thing that is not clear to me. Does this camera supports NAS storage like the other Mi cameras do? Or is it just SD card and Mi Cloud? Thank you
One like for a great video but a dislike for the xiaomi camera. I used to have the 360 version but its good for one thing only. don't expect more than that.
Hello, can you use this camera without the receiver? Theres an option to buy the camera without it a bit cheaper. Will it still work perfectly? Whats the downside?
Can I watch the live feed witout being saved and for more than 15 seconds? For example, can I watch on my phone garage enterance for 10 minutes constantly?
OH! new intro! I liked the older one but this one seems like, more professional or something I have one of the indoor versions. Kind of sad that this one needs a receiver, it's another box that to me, feels somewhat useless, could be all in one device I think
Hello! Can you recommend an outdoor camera that has a long battery life and also uses sim card instead of wifi connection. I need to put it in an isolated place
Can you set it to record permanently, and can you download the footage from the SD Card? What is the maximum SD Card size insertable? Thanks in advance!
@@TechMishka I'm looking for a camera for a specific project. May I ask you to share a screen recording of how files are downloaded via the app please?
Hi. Nice video by the way. Do you know why the baterry drains after 5 days? I charge it with a 2.0 amber wall adaptor and a type c cable for Huawei smartphone. Do I have to charge it with a lower amber adaptor?
I think they should have a different option to have a wired version for the power supply on this camera. The built in battery will deteriorate after time.
You can hard-wire this camera to a full-time power source using the supplied type-C USB charger cable/brick. I have four of them installed that way and they stay 100% charged almost constantly. But I agree that maybe the first thing to go bad with these cameras over time could be the internal non-replaceable battery. We shall see...
@@TechMishka how can this be executed? Camera has silicon cover where plug goes, and if this silicone cover is opened, water will come in while driping. How can this be prevented?
That is true, the battery will deteriorate over time. However, most of the Lithium batteries like this support 500 charge/discharge cycles. That means that if you only charge every 90 days, the battery should last about 750 months, or 62.5 years, maximum. But let's say the camera activates a lot, and we have to charge every 15 days, and additionally the battery deteriorates faster for some other reason, supporting only 250 charge cycles... then, in this bad scenario, the battery life will still be around 10 years. In 10 years you'll probably change your security system, but still, if everything goes well, the battery should last much more than 10 years...
Do you know what type of “anti theft” screw they are using? I bought this camera and surprise, i cannot mount it, because i don t have any tools to remove the “anti theft screw”. Thank you
Hello, I'm going to put the camera on the balcony, I don't want the camera to move with the movement of the tree leaves, the movement of the balcony curtain, I only want to be triggered by the movement of live objects (human, animal) and record live to my NAS in my local network, is it possible with this camera? Note: I'm currently using an "indoor mi 360 1080p" camera that I bought 2 years ago, unfortunately I can't distinguish between "triggered and record only in human motion" as I explained above, it records to the NAS even at the lowest sensitivity setting, even if the leaf moves. Can I do what I want with this camera?
I have two this camera. Every week you have to take one down and reset and install it again. Why does the camera go into sleep mode once a week? The sleep mode cannot be removed except by resetting it again and again. The software is still not good. I think the timing in the program is some bug. Or, The software cannot restart if something happens on the internet. Another problem I have not received an answer to, I should have the global version, but nothing can be installed if the phone's language is not set to English. I live in Thailand, the cameras were bought here, and the place of use is set to Thailand. This is still far from finished software. You can't ask about anything because nobody just knows anything about "how it works".
Hallo, ist dieser Empfänger eigentlich immer mit bei dieser Kamera dabei? In manchen Angeboten sieht man diesen nicht. Oder funktioniert es auch ohne den extra Empfänger? Vielen Dank

Hi man. Can these cameras be viewed via local lan if your internet goes offline? I have the orbi cameras which are great but requires the internet even if you just want to view live local
@@TechMishka Thank you man. I will have to go hard wired with hikvision then. I was hoping I could get complete wireless cameras that I can view local but I also need a couple of screens around my house with the camera's on there so hard wired is probably the best for me
@@TechMishka One more question, those cameras cannot record constantly to usb stick/memmory card? It only records when the motion is detected (max for 15 sec)?
@tech4All I need to install this in a place (outside) which is not easily accessible and thus difficult to dismantle every time to charge. I wish to connect it constantly to a power supply. Any ideas how to go around it and not lose too much from the waterproof capabilities?
Hi, in specification wrote battery life is about 90 days on one charge. But, mine battery is gone after 6-7 days. Is this factory problem or ? I was bought camera before 3 weeks.
The 90-day battery life claim is TOTALLY dependent on how much time the camera is on. I have four of them and IF left on constantly the battery only lasts about 8-10 hours. So I decided to install them hard wired to a power source using the supplied type-C USB charging cable/brick. Now the cameras are running at 100% charged all the time.
There are a lot of variables here... It uses standard Wi-Fi signal, and the receiver has Antennas which extend the range quite a lot. I have gone up to 40m and it was fine. But had no easy way to test it any further. If there are walls in between - the range may be drastically less. Interference from other wireless networks may also worsen the signal.
I bought 3. One was stolen, one is ruined in the rain. Basically you can't use in rain and the motion detection is so slow you can get to device before it records
the battery life is very bad, it's draining very fast. not even holding for 20 days and there is not a lot of movement infront of my door, what should I do?
What are the distance allowed between the camera and the receiver? The room where I'm planning to put the receiver is 50m away from the camera, it's gonna works wireless?
Nice review, thank you. But I have a question, will be work this set without network, so I mean after setup this set by phone and Lan/Wifi connection, Can I use set in shed without internet signal with powerbank, for month of recording? Thank you.
Are you joking? So it only records after a motion is detected? I nearly ordered it. I need a 24/7 recording camera. What if I use it in a crowded place where cars moove every minute? Which camera should I buy for 24/7 recording?

For a single receiver (indoor unit), you can link up to 4 cameras, and if you want to use more than 4 cameras, you need to buy another xiaomi receiver (indoor unit).

I didn't find this either. Been working fine at 10m distance and a wall in-between.
I have 2 , Sorry what’s your saying is that true the autonomy of the batteries are only 20 days not three months as mentioned when you buy it and when it’s raining also it’s impossible to see when you have drops on the camera.
You can think of adding a plastic cover on top so that drops won't disturb you.
@@TechMishka thank you I did also but the problem is that it goes in conflict with the infrared light an then you see absolutely nothing.
Two circles 1 big one small appear in the middle of the screen disturbing The vision.
I also cannot find information about the distance covered. You may try asking Xiaomi's support.
are you saying we will not able to know how much battery life remains in MI HOME app ?
Can it be used without WiFi?
I would like it to record movemets on weekend house, so I can check it later if there was any troublemakers.
Better get a trie DVR for that purpose.
My main complain, and the video was very explicit about it: the camera is not water repellent, we can see that it remains on it.... If the camera is exposed to rain, snow, etc both camera and sensor will become totally useless.
After 15s video recording is...ouch
Many complain about the short battery capacity, well there are other camera options that would last months or even a year, at 300$ minimum or you could install a little solar panel for 10-20$...
The USB C port and waterproofing is not a problem, use a sealant like silicone type, avoid anything like acid sealant.
Good points raised by your side. The idea with sealant is very practical.
wonder if it links direct to the Mi Smart hub or you still need to use the reciever unit supplied ?
You need a receiver.
Excellent Review!
Just a quick question: Do you know how many cameras can be connected to the same wireless hub?
According to the videos I've watched you can connect 4 cameras per hub. I just ordered one online so will verify that when it arrives.
Good to know, thanks mate.
Thank you
nope they don't support (maybe not yet) NAS recording on this model
One like for a great video but a dislike for the xiaomi camera. I used to have the 360 version but its good for one thing only. don't expect more than that.
Thanks for the support, mate! I guess these cameras are anyways supposed to be good at mainly one thing :-)
Please share the link to your phone case😍
Hello, can you use this camera without the receiver? Theres an option to buy the camera without it a bit cheaper. Will it still work perfectly? Whats the downside?
As far as I know it is not possible.
Can I watch the live feed witout being saved and for more than 15 seconds? For example, can I watch on my phone garage enterance for 10 minutes constantly?
Currently - no way to do it.
OH! new intro! I liked the older one but this one seems like, more professional or something
I have one of the indoor versions.
Kind of sad that this one needs a receiver, it's another box that to me, feels somewhat useless, could be all in one device I think
I think there is a way for non-receiver connection, however it has certain limitations.
does it record 24/7? if so, does it require clearing the sd card when full or it clears out automatically?
It can record in increments for 15-30 seconds, so it is not really an always on solution
Hello!
Can you recommend an outdoor camera that has a long battery life and also uses sim card instead of wifi connection. I need to put it in an isolated place
Hmm, better ask around in some related forums. I'm afraid I can't help much here, sorry.
Hello! Awesome video! Can I use a usb stick to store recordings instead of sd card?
No such option, unfortunately.
@@TechMishka Not true.. You can put USB stick as storage for receiver..
@@fejser Hi dear. Can I use external HDD also ?thanks
Thanks bro.. i was in search. It reached my expectations.✋
Glad it does.
Can you set it to record permanently, and can you download the footage from the SD Card?
What is the maximum SD Card size insertable?
Thanks in advance!
Not possible to have continuous recordings. Files are downloaded via the app.
It drains faster when there are frequent recordings. The estimation for 90 days is based on very modest amount of triggering recording.
@@TechMishka I see. Thanx for the answer 🙏
Hi. Is there a possibility to get direct access to RTSP stream and open the video groom a browser not only the app?
I didn't find a way to do it.
Can I connect a hard drive to the the camera receiver?
No, not supported.
I want to buy one, but the summer temperature is higher than 50°C, can it handle this heat?
I think so.
does the camera gateway serve as NAS storage for other Xioami cameras?
Didn't have the chance to try this out.
You can always use a power source to keep it at full power.
Thank you
Hmm, not sure about this, mate...
Hello,
I'm going to put the camera on the balcony, I don't want the camera to move with the movement of the tree leaves, the movement of the balcony curtain,
I only want to be triggered by the movement of live objects (human, animal) and record live to my NAS in my local network, is it possible with this camera?
Note:
I'm currently using an "indoor mi 360 1080p" camera that I bought 2 years ago, unfortunately I can't distinguish between "triggered and record only in human motion" as I explained above, it records to the NAS even at the lowest sensitivity setting, even if the leaf moves.
Can I do what I want with this camera?
I can't promise this one is as smart as you hope it is. The only way to find out is to try it by yourself...
Hi.Does this camera work without internet?
hi can this product able to record 24/7 continuously while its plug in?
Unfortunately not
I have two this camera. Every week you have to take one down and reset and install it again.
Why does the camera go into sleep mode once a week?
The sleep mode cannot be removed except by resetting it again and again.
The software is still not good.
I think the timing in the program is some bug. Or,
The software cannot restart if something happens on the internet.
Another problem I have not received an answer to,
I should have the global version, but nothing can be installed if the phone's language is not set to English.
I live in Thailand, the cameras were bought here, and the place of use is set to Thailand.
This is still far from finished software.
You can't ask about anything because nobody just knows anything about "how it works".
Can I put camera on charge and left it for a long time? Much more then 90 days
no
Hi. I meet a problem that show memory FULL insteat of memory NORMAL. So I could not open the recording. Any idea how to fix it ?
Hallo,
ist dieser Empfänger eigentlich immer mit bei dieser Kamera dabei?
In manchen Angeboten sieht man diesen nicht.
Oder funktioniert es auch ohne den extra Empfänger?
Vielen Dank
The receiver is always on. As far as I remember - no option for federation.
hi. im having issues with the real-time footage. it will work for a few hours but will eventually get a message saying "supports up to four simultaneous real-time channels". only fix is deleting the receiver and the camera then pair it again but i dont want to do this all the time lol. the camera is near the receiver, my internet connection is fast and stable. the camera still records activity. only issue is the real time footage. any thoughts?
Sounds like a software issue. Better make a recording and try to reach Xiaomi's support.

Do you have to have the receiver or you can connect the camera to your own 2.4Ghz wifi router?
I think you'll need to have the receiver. It will connect to your router to use the Internet to connect to their server.
You do need the received.
Can i make it record always while saving and deleting automatically on sd card like a regular security camera
It is designed to record chunks of up to 15 seconds.
Is it easy to setup the storage of videos to a memory card and will it automatically delete old footage if the storage space is full?
Yes, setting it up was quite easy. As for deleting the oldest entries - not sure, since I never really got my card to full...

40ish

@@TechMishka One more question, those cameras cannot record constantly to usb stick/memmory card? It only records when the motion is detected (max for 15 sec)?
@tech4All I need to install this in a place (outside) which is not easily accessible and thus difficult to dismantle every time to charge. I wish to connect it constantly to a power supply. Any ideas how to go around it and not lose too much from the waterproof capabilities?
You can connect via USB type C power port.

Motion trigger only.

Try to clean the sensors.
Can you watch the live feed when away from home?
Sure
Hi, can u open the camera on the pc or only via phone app?
You can open it via a PC for copying files.
In order to watch real time footage from my smartphone, does my smartphone needs to be connected to the router’s wifi that the receiver is connected?
It has to be connected to the internet. They transfer the footage to the cloud and back.
Hi,
in specification wrote battery life is about 90 days on one charge.
The 90-day advertisement has a lot of catches... Has to be warm and the camera not to trigger more than 20 times per day,
Can the app pair with multiple phone user. Meaning like 4 phone see the CCTV footage at the same time
Yes, this is supported. in Mi Home you can share devices with other users.
How far can the indoor receiver be from the camera? What is the range?
There are a lot of variables here... It uses standard Wi-Fi signal, and the receiver has Antennas which extend the range quite a lot. I have gone up to 40m and it was fine. But had no easy way to test it any further.
If there are walls in between - the range may be drastically less. Interference from other wireless networks may also worsen the signal.
@@TechMishka thank you
Can I use multiple camera in the same receiver?
Yes, you can
Its record only 15 secs.. u forgot to mention that
Did I?
Great Battery Powered Camera
Yeah, it is a good one as long as you don't need uninterrupted footage source.
I bought 3. One was stolen, one is ruined in the rain. Basically you can't use in rain and the motion detection is so slow you can get to device before it records
Ouch!
the battery life is very bad, it's draining very fast. not even holding for 20 days and there is not a lot of movement infront of my door, what should I do?
Connect a Type-C and get unlimited power 😎
What are the distance allowed between the camera and the receiver? The room where I'm planning to put the receiver is 50m away from the camera, it's gonna works wireless?
It will work if there are no walls in between.
Nice review, thank you. But I have a question, will be work this set without network, so I mean after setup this set by phone and Lan/Wifi connection, Can I use set in shed without internet signal with powerbank, for month of recording? Thank you.
Hey Thomas, thanks for the question. It must be a very very big power bank...
Are you joking? So it only records after a motion is detected? I nearly ordered it. I need a 24/7 recording camera. What if I use it in a crowded place where cars moove every minute? Which camera should I buy for 24/7 recording?
If 24/7 camera is needed - better get something with DVR and traditional-like setup.
I bought the Imilab EC3, satisfied.

You do the setup via the app, it links to Xiaomi's cloud and you can see the camera footage from any point in the worls.
Most people looks for battery backed cameras because of fear that clever stealer will switch off power before going in.
So power off no recording, because of adapter
True that
Can you link more than 1 camera to a simgle receiver?
For a single receiver (indoor unit), you can link up to 4 cameras, and if you want to use more than 4 cameras, you need to buy another xiaomi receiver (indoor unit).

Not possible.
Does it still record if the WiFi/Internet is off or broken?
Yes, it will still record.
I almost bought this camera but in comments I saw this cam does not record continuously so basically it is not a security camera
It is a security camera with very conservative adjustment of the recording capacity so that it is battery friendly.
