My childhood died a bit on September 26, 2023..... Godspeed Brooksie, you have been, are and always will be my baseball hero. They say never meet your heroes, you'll be disappointed. Well I met mine years after he retired, he didn't disappoint. He was everything a boyhood hero should be. As great a third baseman as he was, Brooks was a better human being.

Terrific tribute, Roy. Found this after listening to you on the Lost Ballparks podcast. Miss the shows you did on ESPN.

I was born after Brooks's playing career ended, but I grew up admiring him. He's my hero. If I ever have a son, I would like to name him Brooks.

No one has played as many games as Brooks without being thrown out of a game.
