  • La Ville Mal Gardée is a comic ballet first performed in the 19th century, and this music was composed to accompany it. This recording by Decca is, in my opinion, one of the best sounding records ever made - certainly in my collection. While generally I try to post material not yet on YT, many of them are perhaps not the best sounding due to age or condition. So I thought I would occasionally put up some of these LPs that have wonderful sound even if they may be found elsewhere on YT.
This recording is taken from the original Decca album. Although it is almost 60 years old the sound is almost flawless. It required almost no noise reduction, and only minor changes after the transfer from LP to digital, to the video soundtrack. And the original mastering of this album is superb.
I will continue to put up some rarer pieces with focus on piano, lesser known orchestral works, and some world music, but I also wanted to show that there are still some fantastic sounding albums out there. Even if though this may be on elsewhere on YT, perhaps you have not heard this before. Keep you eye out in the second-hand stores. This gem, for example, was purchased for dollar at a thrift store 6 or 7 years ago.
I hope you will enjoy this light-hearted piece with it's quirky percussion and sound effects.

This recording has been reissued on CD and digitally in splendid sound, far better than a vinyl rip.

I urge you to go out and buy it, particularly if you don't have a turntable to hear it on vinyl.
