    Got a tonale speciale Montreal green... purchased and driving in Czech... no glitches until last week when a snow storm covered all the ADAS camera, but once the snow has been removed steam was working all right! Not the fastes but still all right, main issues
    1) Rear camera get often occluded due to the unlucky position
    2) 20" tires not so comfy with cobblestone or granite sets paving
    3) In urban environment can get easily to 7.4l/100km
    Other that that no issues with the road sign in Europe, and price is definitely much more lower... and at least we do not have the rebadge Dodge around.

    I think you missed the point. It's really all about the plug-in and the EV range as well as the reduced footprint. It's not supposed to be a cheap Stelvio, they are two different vehicles. But thank you for producing this, it was well done.

    Neat addition to the Alfa Romeo family and, as always, beautiful styling. But I’ll stick with the face lifted Stelvio. The 2.0t in the Giulia/Stelvio is great and relatively efficient. The ZF8 is amazing and near dual clutch shift speeds in dynamic mode. The RWD platform is superior. I love my Giulia!

    I bought an Alfa Romeo Tonale Sprint model PHEV ( the base model, not the dolled up, expensive Veloce model, which is more readily more available, as for every Sprint model Alfa imported, they imported 9 Veloces ) almost a year ago. I was the first one to buy one in Canada, and basically bought it off the truck. I paid less then MSRP, and got it less then what a Ford Escape PHEV ( which at the time had a dealer mark up of $3,500, and add ons like $3,500 for Ford's Blue Cruise ) was going for, and where a RAV4 Prime ( basically the same price without add ons ) was ( and still is ) unavailable, and a 2 year old used Prime was selling for $14,000 more then my out the door price. Other then 9 recalls ( 2 for decals that did not have metric or French on them, that I did myself, 3 for checking high voltage connections were tight, no parts needed, 1 to replace a switch, and 3 for software updates, because where I live the vehicle would not update itself ) I have had zero problems with it, everything is operating above my expectations, and I am getting better electrical range and gas mileage then stated on the Vehicle MSRP sheet. It handles great, looks much nicer then its competition ( I compared the Sprint model against the Escape and Prime, where most reviewers, etc., compare the Veloce model that they are given by the dealers against the BMW X1 or Mercedes GLA, etc. which to me is not a fair comparison, especially a PHEV to a non PVEV ). It is not perfect, just like every vehicle in certain aspects, but I love it, love driving it, glad I bought it rather then any of the half dozen or so other PHEVS I test drove, and I would buy it again. And, it fits nicely in my garage.
    All new vehicles have there problems, and mine did too, but the dealership I bought mine from, bent over backwards to accommodate me with the recalls, offered me a loaner while my vehicle was being serviced, and Alfa has resolved every issue with my vehicle, some well documented. I cannot say I would have gotten the same treatment from any other manufacturer.
    Maybe I am lucky with my vehicle, but my whole experience, from buying it through to service, driving, etc., could not have been simpler, easier, stress free, and satisfying.

    The pricing is high, but because it’s a Phev, my local dealer was able to offer a $7,500 tax credit on a lease (not for a purchase). I think that’s why the pricing is similar to a Stelvio

    Before the Infiniti G37 went away, it used to have solid magnesium leather wrapped column mounted paddle shifters. They had a very solid feel, and I miss them since everyone else I've seen is using plastic paddles mounted to the steering wheel.

    I live in Puerto Rico, and one cannot compare the prices of the Tonale and Stelvio. The Stelvio will run you about $20K more because it pays Taxes and the Tonale is exempt because it's a plug-in hybrid. I got me the Tonale a few weeks ago and had the same issues with the warning lights coming on and off, and the crazy speed signs recognition. Still enjoy the crap out of it and it's a joy to look at. Beautiful design/look that gets noticed. Mine is a TI in Alfa Red maxed out on options to the tune of $56k.

    My wife and I have agreed that we can't really afford the Land Rover Defender for my Wrangler Rubicon 4xe replacement at the moment. So the question at hand is do we wait until we can afford it, or do I spring for a Tonale?. The problem with the Tonale is of course, if I finance or lease, the resale value is so poor that I'll never be able to unload it to get the Defender when we can afford it. Also, neither brand is known for reliability but I'd rather get stuck in a Defender than my second choice of the Tonale. There is a good 2 year lease deal on the Tonale so maybe that can work, but I WILL be stuck for the full 2 years because it will be wildly upside down until the very last day of the lease. Even worse, it seems that Alpha is plagued with reliability issues that perhaps Land Rover in its 4th year has started to work out finally. That's my dilemma.

I always wanted an Alfa Romeo in the early 90s when i started driving but my uncles told me to avoid them cause they always had major issues back then years ago.. They should have tested this more before putting it out. I seriously was hoping they would be better with this stuff.

    Nice review, We all know I have no interest in buying this vehicle, but I did fully watch the video, because I like to see what new models have to offer. First, Matt you are 100 percent right, the Stelvio is 100 percent worth the two grand more, they did not price the Tonale right. Second, a co worker had to rent a Dodge Hornet, he and his girlfriend hit their heads on those rear doors, why would you design rear doors like that? very bad design those rear doors, very easy to hit your head. Third, The Hornet and this Tonale have major software problems, the hornet my co worker had to rent, was very bad, display turned off at times, center screen would turn off, check engine light/warning lights, so these have a lot of issues. Lastly, Matt I know you want to mainly review cars and sport cars, and as you know I love cars, I have never owned a SUV/CUV. However, since you bring up the Toyota RAV4 Prime all the time, you should check out the new Mitsubishi Outlander Plug in Hybrid. When my elderly Mother was looking for new car, I drove the regular gasoline engine Mitsubishi Outlander and the plug in Hybrid, it is pretty dam good, Really impressed especially for the money and warranty. Mitsubishi has a really nice vehicle with the Outlander, it is better than the Rogue which it shares platform with. My Mother almost bought the Outlander earlier this year, but the "all mighty" Subaru Crosstrek was the perfect size for what she needed and easier to park/maneuver, great ride for the size. She loves the Crosstrek and I have to admit, it is nice and comfy, does so much well, I know a little slow, but not horrible, it is a great all season run around car.

    Right now the Tonale qualifies for some massive rebates and discounts that the Stelvio doesn't, Picking up a Tonale Ti for the wife this week that we got over $4600 in discounts and another $8500 in total rebates on. Comparing sticker prices I agree, but that's not how the Tonale is getting purchased at the moment, so on price they are currently far below the Stelvio numbers.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  11 месяцев назад

    The $2K option for the wheels is cost effective because your not getting a nice set of 20" tires/wheels and tpms from the aftermarket for that unless you get some cheap a$s lookin' rims and tires.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  11 месяцев назад +2

      Well you have to factor in that you're giving up already nice 19s. If you sold those and got something aftermarket, you still might not come out ahead, but I'm not sure it's that great of a deal. Most wheel upgrades like this in this segment aren't this expensive.

    Weird Wheels sort of funky looking, ...... Beautiful green body color, Styling is Italian and really a great front fascia. Insignia is pretty on the body of the car; would have preferred those nice colors on the center of the steering wheel, and key, as well. Red calipers are snazzy. For $2000 more, I would want the Stelvio. ...... Looks like the week you were driving the Tonale you did not have time to shave. I don't think 50K to 59K is a bargain, though it is exotic looking. The quirks and glitches are noted.....the car thinks it is in Italy (funny).....seems like the car has a mind of its own and wants to go back to Italy. That is why it is having a tantrum with the noise that you have not turned off the lights. Maybe it will drive itself back there. Does the GPS in the vehicle give you directions in Italian or English?
