    Howdy Folks! Thanks for stopping by! Editors/Writing apology, I mixed up the names of two of the sisters; and I have no clue what happened to the last 40 seconds visually, but I'll keep improving on this one person team! I hope I got to you before you wrote it! Anyways, I loved this game for so many reasons, even if throughout the game I felt baffled by a couple of.. choice designs.. Find out what in this review of Clive Barker's Undying!

    So to give you a bit of development context I've gleaned from research, the game was originally a wholly separate IP from Clive Barker. When the original idea wasn't going anywhere, the company brought Barker on as a consultant, to which he completely retooled the game's lore/story from the ground up.
    The shaman in the opening cutscene was meant to be the player character - named Magnus - but Barker convinced them that Magnus wouldn't be a relatable character for players - being a hulking brute with an antiquated name - and suggested they make someone that - and I'm paraphrasing - 'he would want to sleep with'. I'm guessing the idea being that the MC should be more physically and emotionally relatable.

      I truly appreciate you writing all of this. I’m smiling while typing this up since, I can’t help but feel glee in the sentence, “more physically and emotionally relatable…” Patrick has the emotional capacity of a barnyard door.
      That is so interesting, I’m assuming he had a lot of say because of his previous works, but I had imagined this collaboration was from the start, not them pulling him in. Very interesting!
      I’m even more flabbergasted by Magnus, but at least I can make sense about that now. Any idea about who saves Patrick in the boat? Is that supposed to be Otto, somehow surviving Onerios?

    I knew it sounded familiar i have jericho but havent played it, the setting of this game is just amazing and unique, also 2:20 lol , love your humor man

    Sorry I tried posting an answer to you but RUclips was being weird.
    So separate post.
    Poor choice of words on my part. I meant relateable in the sense that you could more reasonably immerse yourself in the character as opposed to some hulking brute named Magnus. The actual quote - taken from Barker's website itself - was:
    "We had this fellow called Magnus. Count Magnus Wolfram. Who was bald, tattoed, looked like a comic book hero. And I got them all in a room, and I said, 'Look, does anyone in this room know a count? No. Does anybody in this room know anybody called Magnus? No. Does anybody really want to be in this guy's skin? Since this is a first person play, why would you want to be in this man's skin? Why would you want to play [as him]?' And so we threw him out, and I said, 'Look. You've got a gay man in charge here. Bring me somebody I want to sleep with. Bring me somebody fabulously sexy.'...
    "Brian Horton about ten days later sent me the character that now appears on the screen. Who was wonderful, he's everything I wanted. He was just the right kind of character. He seemed like somebody you would want to be, somebody you would want to play, whose skin you would want to occupy for a period of time. Even if you are going against the hordes of hell, at least he was going to do it with a smile on his face."

    Also, yes the boatman at the end who saves Patrick was Keisinger, voice by John St. John of all people.
    If you want to look deeper into it, I'd recommend looking at Barker's official website. He has a section under games that has a bunch of dev quotes about the production. Tried linking it before but RUclips refused to be nice.

      This is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this, typing this, thinking about this! I truly appreciate you taking the time, and what an interesting interview! I really do admire artists that do, rather than think. It’s not a slide remark on Barker’s part either; I truly love his ideas and his ability to just go with stuff. Have you played Jericho? Hope all is well and that you had a good weekend

      @@Dog.Dad.Studios I did buy Jericho roughly around release back in the day - I'm an oldie lol - but my rig at the time couldn't handle it. But after watching some reviews and an LP, I don't think I was missing out on much sadly. Lots of great ideas and concepts, wonky execution. It's something I think about a lot of Barker's literature too, as much as I love the man's work.
