@@MrBumpalicious today a game of mine went from -2.6 to M1 in one move (obvious blunder). Chess is such an amazing game where tunnel vision can ruin your night (or make it on my case haha). Meanwhile these nigh omnipotent gods play in the slightest advantage in move variation almost based on pure obscurity to throw there opponent off. Love it
It's funny, the purpose of a chess engine is to evaluate how good a position is, but for humans, sometimes a better position is worse. The reason is the computer has no idea how easy or hard the multi-move ideas are to find. They're all equal for a computer. If two players have the same mindset, they both ignore the same lines when evaluating, carving a weird 'desire path' in the analysis. Makes the whole thing a lot more fun.

Probably why Magnus didn't want to play--he wanted to watch with us!
First time since Carlsen/Karjakin 2016 when both sides won a game. 2018 was all draws and Nepo didn't win any in 2021.

@@r.mcdonnell8614 when did that ever happen? Fabi Magnus games were super exciting to watch, pretty much opposite of quick draws. And Magnus Ian was very fighting till game 6 after which there was one decisive game after another. Magnus Karjakin had 2 decisive games with an epic comeback from Magnus. And every game Magnus seemed to be ramming Karjakin's fortress until he broke through.
World Championship never has quick draws. Just a weird thing to say.

NGL, this is way more exciting than Magnus' last few defenses. Magnus is so solid and happy to squeeze rock that you end up with a ton of draws. Magnus would have taken game 2 and coasted his way through the rest of the match, and rightfully so. Ian doing Ian things and Ding introducing novelties and unique ideas means that every single match could be a banger.
True but game 6 of Magnus vs Ian was one of the greatest game of all time, if not the greatest. I doubt this championship will match that level of hype.

Ngl, I like those games better, magnus spotting the best moves while ding keeps regaining and losing that 0.4 advantage, here they both know they're equal so they focus a bit less cause they know they can get away with it, if I wanted to watch novelties I would've watched GTE or 300 elo chess.
The speed with which you get these high quality breakdowns is amazing. I can tell it takes a lot of discipline and effort and really appreciate it.

Capturing with the pawn instead of the queen is one of the craziest things imaginable. Now I understand why Rapport is one of Ding's team😆 a variant like this can only come to his mind. Congratulations to Ding Liren for the victory, now it becomes an interesting match

What I meant is that Ding Liren, due to his style of play, would never think of using such a variant, especially after developing the Queen on d2. The idea is from Rapport, no doubt
That's actually a common idea in Taimanov Sicilian. Ding played the Reversed Taimanov today
@@patrickwang3197 In the Taimanov Sicilian it is relatively common, very little is played after developing the queen on c7, especially at these levels. Usually we arrive at that structure/position because white captures the knight first, and only after the recapture does black develop the queen in her "natural" position of the Taimanov/Kan openings

Went from being 600 rated all the way to a peak of 1966 in rapid in just under 2 years all because of levy. The man knows what he is doing for sure. A phenomenal teacher who never fails to engage the audience and amaze🎉 👍.

So far this is more exciting than Magnus who draws every single World Champ game.
I think more impressive than Nepo’s “two-minute blunder”, was Ding’s 1:14min rook sacrifice find. He had 30mins to find the best move but he found that almost immediately and didn’t hesitate.
He probably found it earlier and then the position came.

I'm glad you highlighted the bxc3 move because that also confused me at the time. 'Why would he double his pawns when his Queen is right there and he seemingly put it on c2 for that exact purpose?' I asked myself.
