The tone that Paul Butterfield is getting out of that harp is just crazy good. This was back far enough time wise that there would be no pedals involved in the set-up. Just one very soulful player.
What a frigging show it will be in Rock & Roll Heaven when all the boys are back together only hope l can get a pass and attend, hell yeah wail Mr. Butterfield .that train just keeps arollin.
I remember when this movie first came out.... I was working in Manhattan and it was playing at a theater uptown..... I grabbed the secretary and said we were taking a long lunch....hopped in a cab and went to see it that afternoon......what a performance by all involved..... I wonder if she remembers seeing it with me.....boy that was a very long time ago
You probably dont give a damn but does someone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Mayson Torin thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Capolavoro assoluto. Come del resto tutto il concerto, lo riguardo spesso e mi da una gioa immensa ogni volta come fosse la prima. Grazie ragazzi, sono felice che la mia gioventù è stata in quei meravigliosi anni.
Bill Graham had a special way to really leave his mark on history. Watkins Glenn and The Last Waltz were just two of extraordinary special events. One had 600,000 fans and one had 6,000 that will never be forgotten.
Paul Butterfield. Monster tone, and monster power. The greatest soloist the night of the Last Waltz -- and yes I know Clapton and Robertson were there.
I saw Butterfield and Johnny Winter play together at Deadwood, So.Dak. during the 1979 Bike Rally in Sturgis. It was the most Best, 20min.Set l have ever Seen. I recorded the whole thing by Accident. and this is where Paul would form a great friendship with Levon Helm who would become a part of the rco All-Stars and a great friendship with the great Rick Danko. also he would hang out to with Garth Hudson they were originally supposed to make an album together Paul and Garth
If you listen closely above the blues harp ,you can hear Robbie's astonishing rhythm playing ! It is to me quite breathtaking never missing a beat ... Listen very closely !
Fantastic rendition of this great number… Paul Butterfield’s harmonica playing is absolutely superb. The mix seems quite a bit different to how it is on my Last Waltz CD. … I can hear Garth’s keyboard much clearer here.
I was fortunate enough to be 18 when this happened. The movie was shown at a few large old theaters such as the Tower In Philly. It was like being at the concert. Those were the good days....joints everywhere, cops no where in sight. You could buy nearly anything in the bathrooms and the acid was good in those days. The 66 to Bridge and Pratt hop on the EL to 69th St stoned and happy.
So not only did Robbie break a string, this is where they lost the house lights and only one spot was left working. I can see Bill freaking out, Marty scrambling to make sure he had coverage and Jerry who is filming this footage from next to the Soundboard wondering if he should pitch in or keep filming. :)
I've seen the movie a few dozen times and I've often wondered what happened to Garth's organ sound. It's way out in front here, but I gather this was an outtake. If so, who's responsible for turning Garth down on the official version? The Band was a phenomenon, but we've always known that it was largely Garth that made them unique.
David Zasloff it was the maker of the movie I think man, Scorsese...he edited him out for some reason. He prob shut a door on him or something, little man’s disease at its best. Maybe stubbed his toe?
I think you guys are both very much mistaken. Scorsese made the movie The Last Walts. This is winterland. Also everything is shot from one angle and that’s a dead giveaway that it’s not a professional movie.
Robbie and Martin edited the Last Waltz alot of songs were mixed differently to how they were played live with some parts being over-dubbed after the fact, for instance Rick's bass due to the fact on some tracks it was slightly out of tune. The only instrument that was never overdubbed and remains the same as the night it was recorded are the drums

I was there, and I can tell you, JRR fucked up, he blew the intro lick, which didn't line up with the drug-fueled, god-like image they were all trying to project....he then tried to blame it on a faulty guitar or his guitar-tuners off-stage...ANYTHING to deflect from a simple mistake on the guitar (the horizontally-quick changes are formidable). The rest of the clip (after replacing JRR's supposedly-defective guitar) was MAGNIFICENT thanks to JRR's ballsy playing (after the initial dropping the ball), Levon Helm, and of course, PB himself. A fuck-up is forgivable; lying about what happened is not, although one can understand his nervousness and embarrassment).
Sorry for going against the stream, but is it only me finding it a bit messy and them both shouting it at the same time out of sync kind of ruined it for me . Great tune though!
Right outa the gate, Garth's support of Paul's playing is just beautiful.
The band who so deserved to just be named The Band. What a bunch of talented men.
Well said indeed
Thanks Levon for introducing me to Paul, my soulmate, our son, Justin, reminds me of you, Paul. See you again some day..🎶🥀💔
Butterfield & Helm singing a duo lead is almost too much for this music fan to handle - two giants together for sure. This. IS. epic.
I know what you mean .This was epic.Just pure effortless talent.
Butterfield stepped aside for Levon pretty quickly. Greatest voice in rock history
@@JihadUSA Butterfield was humble that way.Besides his harp said more than enough.

The Band starts bad...plays erratic but Butterfield is truly amazing having to anticipate the Band's playing.
this is stunning... the movie version cut out all the nuances of this
Yeah, but they did tamp down Garth's roller rink organ. Sounded a little out of place.
Would love to see the outtakes of other songs that didn't make the movie. I'm sure they exist.

This not the version that appears in "The Last Waltz", is it? Both done at Winterland.
